Google announced fully managed remote MCP servers for Google and Google Cloud services on December 10, 2025. They give compatible AI applications a way to discover and use supported service capabilities through hosted HTTP endpoints, rather than requiring users to install and operate a separate local server for every integration. Google Cloud reported more than 50 Google-managed servers in GA or Preview in April 2026; the status and capabilities of any specific server still need to be checked individually.
What Google’s managed MCP servers are
MCP, or Model Context Protocol, is a standard interface through which an AI application can discover and use tools and other capabilities exposed by a service. An MCP server implements that interface. In Google’s managed model, the server runs on Google service infrastructure and an MCP-compatible client connects to it over HTTP.
The distinction between the parts matters: the host is the AI application, while its MCP client handles communication with the server. A local MCP server usually runs on the user’s own machine and commonly communicates over standard input/output streams. A Google-managed remote server moves hosting and much of the operational work to Google, according to Google’s March 27, 2026 implementation guide.
Google’s December 10, 2025 launch announcement described the service as an alternative to finding, installing, and maintaining local community-built servers for Google services. It also described an Apigee direction for exposing and governing customers’ own or third-party APIs as agent-discoverable tools. That is a related extension of the MCP approach, not a claim that every API is automatically available through Google’s managed endpoints.

What changed after the launch
The launch was the starting point, not a guarantee that every Google service had a generally available server on day one. In an April 28, 2026 Google Cloud announcement, Google said more than 50 Google-managed MCP servers were generally available or in Preview. That combined figure must not be read as “more than 50 generally available servers.” A May 1, 2026 release note likewise says the remote-server offering is generally available while individual servers can still be in Preview or GA.
The supported-products directory is the place to verify the current endpoint, release stage, and product-specific details. Its listed areas include cloud infrastructure, databases, storage, analytics, monitoring, identity, developer tools, and Maps. Examples include BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Cloud Run, Cloud SQL, Compute Engine, Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), Spanner, Firestore, Developer Knowledge API, and Maps Grounding Lite. A product appearing in a directory is not, by itself, evidence that every feature or region is generally available.
Google’s launch post gave illustrative uses: asking Maps Grounding Lite for place, weather, or route context; using BigQuery for schema-aware access to enterprise data; and asking agents to perform Compute Engine or GKE operations. These are examples Google described, not independent demonstrations of agent accuracy, production readiness, or safe autonomous operation.
How to decide whether a remote server fits
Start with the specific task and service, not with the overall server count. A managed endpoint is useful only if it exposes the capability the agent needs and your host can connect using the required protocol and identity flow.

- Coverage: Confirm that the product and required tools are listed in Google’s supported-products directory.
- Release stage and region: Check whether that particular server is GA or Preview and whether it is available in the regions relevant to your deployment. Availability can vary by endpoint and change over time.
- Client compatibility: Verify that your AI host or MCP client supports the current remote connection and authentication requirements. Do not assume that every client handles every MCP version in the same way.
- Identity and permissions: Work out which Google credentials or application identity will be used and what permissions it needs. Keep the granted access aligned with the agent’s actual job.
- Tool scope: If the endpoint offers toolsets, see whether a narrower tool group can meet the task. Toolsets are endpoint-specific; they are not a universal feature.
- Governance: Establish how administrators will manage access, review activity, and control the tools an agent can invoke before connecting it to production data or resources.
For a workload that needs a Google-hosted service capability and wants to avoid deploying a local server, the remote model can reduce setup and maintenance responsibilities. A local or self-hosted server may provide more control over its deployment and environment, but the adopter has to operate it. Google’s guide explains this operational contrast; the available material does not establish comparative latency, cost savings, reliability, or security effectiveness.
How to connect an agent without guessing at configuration
There is no single universal endpoint or configuration block for all Google-managed servers. The product-specific directory and documentation determine the endpoint, supported tools, authentication flow, release status, and any optional toolsets. Use those values for the service you intend to connect rather than copying a configuration for a different Google product.
- Choose the service and task. Identify the Google product and the concrete operation the agent should perform. Check that operation against the endpoint’s documented tools.
- Check the live product entry. In Google Cloud’s supported-products directory, verify the server’s endpoint, GA or Preview status, regional availability, and any prerequisites.
- Confirm product enablement. Google’s release notes say that, beginning March 17, 2026, endpoints for supported products are available by default when the product itself is enabled, subject to a gradual regional rollout. Confirm the current state for the product and region rather than treating this as an instant global change.
- Set up identity and authorization. Follow the endpoint’s instructions for Google credentials or the identity of the AI application. Grant only the Google Cloud permissions the agent needs, and validate the effective access before allowing consequential actions.
- Configure the host’s MCP client. Enter the endpoint and authentication details in the host’s supported remote-MCP configuration. The exact UI path and configuration format depend on the host and endpoint; use their current documentation.
- Limit and test access. Where available, select an appropriate toolset instead of exposing unnecessary tools. Begin with a low-risk task, confirm which tools the client can discover, and check that authorization behaves as intended.
- Apply operational controls. Decide who can change access, how use will be monitored, and what confirmation is required for actions that modify cloud resources or data. Do not treat a successful connection as approval for unsupervised execution.
Google’s overview says its servers support MCP version 2026-07-28. Google describes that version as moving MCP to a stateless core: requests carry the information needed for routing instead of relying on the earlier initialization handshake and session ID. Because protocol and client support can evolve, verify the live overview and the specific client’s compatibility when implementing a connection.
Security controls and their limits
Google documents MCP authorization, IAM policy controls, and fine-grained authorization over Google Cloud resources for its Cloud MCP servers. It also documents Model Armor scanning of calls and responses where supported. Google describes Model Armor as helping mitigate prompt injection, sensitive-data disclosure, and tool poisoning; these are risk-reduction measures, not a guarantee that an agent or endpoint is safe in every configuration.

Support is not uniform across all servers. Check the individual product documentation for which controls apply and how to enable them. Google’s overview identifies a specific limitation: MCP app resources rendered with resource/read are not scanned by Model Armor, although tool calls through those apps are scanned when Model Armor is enabled. Do not infer that a scanned tool call means every resource an agent can read has been inspected.
Google’s release notes also describe a governance change. Starting March 17, 2026, Google deprecated the gcp.managed.allowedMCPServices organization policy constraint and directs administrators to IAM deny policies for control. Administrators maintaining older policies should review the current release notes and IAM guidance before relying on previous restrictions. The same release notes describe a gradual regional rollout of the default endpoint availability behavior, so a product being enabled does not prove that its endpoint is already available in every location.
What managed hosting does—and does not—settle
Google says it manages hosting, scaling, and security for its remote endpoints. That shifts endpoint infrastructure operations away from the user, but it does not remove the need to configure the AI host, assign identities, scope IAM access, choose tools, and govern what the agent does. Nor does managed hosting establish a particular service-level commitment, response time, price, or comparative reliability; the cited launch and product materials do not provide those measurements.
For teams comparing remote and local deployments, evaluate the actual endpoint and workflow. A managed HTTP endpoint can mean less local installation and server maintenance. A local server can offer greater control but requires deployment and operation by the team. Compare service coverage, release stage, region, authentication, permission granularity, toolset availability, and supported monitoring or Model Armor protections. Do not make a security or performance decision from the words “managed” or “remote” alone.

For a separate task: website screenshots through an MCP server or API
ScreenshotNeo is not a replacement for Google’s BigQuery, Maps, or Google Cloud service endpoints. It is a separate developer product for website screenshots: a screenshot API and MCP server. If the job is to give an AI agent a page screenshot or PDF rather than operate a Google service, it is the relevant alternative to try first. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf; its API can also return a screenshot from one GET request.
One-call screenshot example
Replace YOUR_API_KEY with your ScreenshotNeo key and change the target URL as needed. The API documentation is at ScreenshotNeo docs.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
The equivalent Python request is:
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
And in Node.js:
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
ScreenshotNeo removes supported cookie/consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before a capture; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, with response headers indicating page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server lets compatible AI agents request screenshots. The free plan includes 1,000 shots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. These features are for screenshot workflows, not Google Cloud resource access.
