Firefox: save a complete page as one image
Firefox is usually the simplest free route because no extension is required.
- Open the page and wait for the content you need to appear.
- Right-click an empty part of the page and choose Take Screenshot. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- Choose Save full page. Firefox renders content beyond the current window and presents the complete image.
- Download the image, or choose the copy action if you want it on the clipboard for another application.
The same panel offers visible-area, region, and automatically highlighted-element captures. Those alternatives are useful when a full-page image would be unnecessarily large.

Firefox privacy behavior
Mozilla documents that the screenshot feature can collect interaction events such as using Copy or Save full page. Its documentation says it does not collect the page URL or image details and describes settings for disabling technical and interaction data collection. Review those settings if your organization restricts telemetry.
Firefox Developer Tools: a configurable full-page capture
Use this route when you need a delay for late-loading content, a specific element, a device-pixel ratio, or a repeatable filename.
- Open Developer Tools (usually F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I; macOS uses Command+Option+I).
- Enable the toolbox button named Take a screenshot of the entire page if it is not already visible.
- Alternatively, open the Web Console and use Firefox’s
:screenshothelper with the--fullpageoption.
A basic console command is:

:screenshot --selector "main article" --filename article.pngThe selector must match an element in the current document. If it matches nothing, remove the selector and capture the full page, or correct the CSS selector.
Microsoft Edge: capture, mark up, and save
- Open the page in Edge.
- Right-click the page and choose Screenshot, or open the feature with Ctrl+Shift+S. You can also reach it through Edge settings where the feature is exposed.
- Select the full-page option rather than a rectangular selection.
- Use the pen or touch controls to add comments or markup, then copy or save the result.
Edge describes support for long or moving webpages. Moving material such as GIFs or carousels can remain active during capture, so two captures of the same page may not contain identical animation frames. Microsoft also notes that feature availability and functionality vary by device, market, and browser version; if the command is absent, update Edge or use Firefox or an extension.
Free extensions when native tools are not enough
Install an extension only when its extra workflow justifies the added permissions. Compare the current store listing, requested permissions, update history, and privacy policy before granting access to pages containing confidential information.
FullPage Capture
Its Chrome Web Store listing describes scrolling capture, PNG/JPEG and PDF export, annotation, blur, and pixelation. The listing displayed version 1.9.50 with an August 27, 2026 update date when reviewed. Its local-storage and no-network statements are publisher claims, not an independent security audit.

OpenCapture
OpenCapture describes free capture, crop, annotation, blur, undo, and PNG/PDF export for Chrome, Edge, and Firefox, with no account required. It says processing happens locally. The site also describes an optional tiled-watermark feature priced at $5 for 1,000 credits as displayed when accessed; that paid option is not required for basic free capture.

Extension decision checklist
- Browser support: confirm your exact browser and version.
- Output: check whether you need PNG, JPEG, PDF, clipboard, or a built-in crop.
- Editing: look for annotation, blur, pixelation, and undo if screenshots contain private data.
- Permissions: a tool that reads every page can access sensitive content; limit installation to a trusted profile when possible.

Handling pages that capture badly
Lazy-loaded images are missing
Scroll through the page once before capturing so images load, then retry. If the page uses infinite scrolling, there may be no fixed “full page”; capture after loading the intended amount or use a selector for the content you need.
Sticky headers or floating widgets repeat
Dismiss overlays and collapse sticky navigation where the site allows it. If the tool offers region or selector capture, select the article container instead of the entire document. An extension’s hide or blur controls may help, but verify the result at normal zoom.

A full-document command normally follows the page’s main scroll height, not every independently scrolling panel. Capture the panel separately, expand it first, or use a selector-based developer-tool capture.

Animations and changing content differ between captures
Pause media where possible and wait for a stable state. Edge specifically notes that moving content can remain on screen; animated pages are inherently time-dependent.
Blank, clipped, or extremely large output
Try a current browser build, reduce zoom, and capture a smaller selector. Very tall pages can exceed image-memory limits; splitting the page into logical sections is safer than producing an unreadable image.
Privacy and security checks
- Do not assume “free” means private. Native browser documentation and extension publisher statements describe different data practices.
- For confidential pages, prefer a built-in browser feature or a tool that clearly documents local processing.
- Remove passwords, tokens, customer data, and internal URLs from the page before sharing a capture.
- Check the destination folder and clipboard after capture; both can expose screenshots to other applications.
- For extensions, re-check permissions after updates and disable or remove tools you no longer use.
