Can you scrape Alibaba search results?
Alibaba.com’s Terms of Use prohibit systematic retrieval of site content to create or compile a collection, compilation, database, or directory without written permission. The stated prohibition applies whether collection uses robots, spiders, automatic devices, or manual processes. Alibaba’s platform terms also restrict copying, republishing, distributing, reselling, and commercial exploitation of site content. Read the current terms before planning a workflow; they can change. This is a practical permission boundary, not a jurisdiction-specific legal opinion about every individual page view or every possible use of data. If your project would systematically collect listings, get written permission first. Do not treat a robots.txt signal, a publicly visible page, or the ability to load a page in a browser as permission to compile its contents.

Three kinds of access are not interchangeable
- Public interface: A person may be able to inspect listing details in Alibaba’s website. That does not establish permission to automate systematic collection or the right to reuse the content.
- Approved API data: An application may access particular data through a particular API scope after review and approval. This does not mean the API returns every public search result or the same ranking and fields shown on the website.
- Supplier business data: Some supplier data may require seller authorization, or be limited to business relationships such as prior orders.
Use Alibaba’s Open Platform for an authorized integration
Alibaba.com’s Open Platform guide describes a developer onboarding process: register as a developer, submit an application for review, obtain application credentials, and request API permissions. It also describes HTTP API calls, product-listing and buyer-sourcing APIs, and seller authorization for supplier business data. The guide’s latest update is dated June 12, 2025. - Define the purpose and data needed. Specify whether you need product listings, buyer sourcing, data for suppliers with whom you have an existing relationship, or something else. Avoid describing the need simply as “all search results”; ask whether the platform supports the precise scope.
- Register and submit an application. Follow the current Open Platform onboarding instructions and provide the requested application details for review.
- Request the relevant API permission. Check the current endpoint reference and permission requirements. Obtain any seller authorization required for the supplier data you intend to access.
- Confirm coverage before building. Verify that the approved endpoint supplies your required records, fields, pagination, and market coverage. Do not assume it reproduces public search pages or their ranking.
- Implement only within the approved scope. Use the API’s documented authentication, request limits, and response schema. Recheck the current API documentation and terms as the integration evolves.
What the available API documentation does—and does not—establish
The official International Station API catalog includes alibaba.procurement.supplier.items.get. It is described as letting a buyer retrieve products from suppliers with whom they have previously placed orders, and the entry says authorization is required. That is a specific, relationship-scoped function—not documentation for an unrestricted public-search-results endpoint. Alibaba.com International Station API catalog.
The reviewed official material does not establish a general-purpose API that returns all public Alibaba search-result records with exact live prices and supplier profiles. Treat the endpoint reference and permissions for your own application as authoritative for what you can retrieve.
Build a useful comparison dataset from authorized fields
Once you have confirmed that collection and each data field are authorized and available, capture context as well as the values. These are recommended comparison dimensions, not a claim that every API exposes them.

Why “the price” may not be a single comparable number
For each value, note whether it is a listing display or a supplier quote and what quantity or tier it represents. Check currency, minimum order quantity, customization, shipping terms, and quote validity against the actual authorized source. Final terms may depend on those conditions and direct supplier quotation. Do not present an observed listing value as a guaranteed transaction price.

Capture a single page for review without treating it as a scraper
If your immediate task is to document one page you are authorized to view—for example, for an internal visual review—a screenshot records what the browser rendered. It does not turn page text into structured product, price, or supplier records, grant permission for systematic collection, or replace an approved data API.
For a manual review, open the relevant page in your browser and use its built-in screenshot or print-to-PDF function. Keep the capture’s date, query, and market context with your notes. Do not automate repeated page capture to assemble a database unless you have written permission.

Troubleshooting an approved data workflow
Your application or API permission is not approved
Do not substitute direct systematic collection. Revisit the stated use case and requested scope in the Open Platform application, and wait for the required review and permission. If the API does not support the use case, ask Alibaba.com about an authorized route or obtain written permission before proceeding.

The endpoint returns no public search results
That does not necessarily indicate a broken request. The endpoint may be limited to a particular workflow or supplier relationship. Check its current description, permission requirements, and response schema; the cited supplier-items function is described for suppliers with whom the buyer has previously placed orders.

A supplier field is missing or access is denied
Check whether the endpoint exposes that field and whether seller authorization is required. Do not infer a missing value, scrape another page to fill it, or claim a supplier attribute without an authorized source.
Prices do not line up across listings
Inspect each record’s currency, unit or tier basis, minimum order quantity, and quote conditions. If those details are not supplied, label the value as displayed rather than treating it as a like-for-like final price, and seek clarification through an authorized supplier channel.
Your collection no longer matches the interface
Do not rely on a browser workflow as a substitute for documented API coverage. Reconfirm your permission, endpoint scope, and current documentation; terms and API references may be revised.
Plan for cost, reliability, and maintenance
For a permitted integration, estimate work around the approved endpoint and data you can actually retrieve, not an assumed count of all search results. Check the current API documentation for request limits and operational requirements; the sources cited here do not establish a universal rate limit, coverage guarantee, or complete public-results schema. Retain collection timestamps and relevant query or market context, and validate that required permissions remain in place as the integration changes.

For screenshots, distinguish visual evidence from structured data: an image or PDF may help a person review a page, but it is not a normalized product database and does not resolve access rights.
