There is no evidence-based universal winner between Site-Shot and ScreenshotAPI.net. Choose Site-Shot if its documented URL-to-image workflow and geotargeting meet your needs; consider ScreenshotAPI.net if you need its listed PDF or video output, scheduling, bulk processing, or cloud-storage routing. Those are vendor-documented capabilities, not proof of comparative speed or reliability. Test the same representative pages and settings in both before putting either into production.

What each API offers

Both are hosted services that render a web page from a URL and return capture data. Their published feature sets differ, so start with the output, automation, and rendering controls your workflow actually needs.

Site-Shot

Site-Shot documents a Chromium-based API called with a GET request, URL, and API key. Its published capabilities include viewport and full-page screenshots, desktop and mobile emulation, custom headers and user agents, JavaScript injection, geotargeting and proxy controls, ad and cookie-banner handling, and PNG, JPEG, or WebP output. See its API quickstart and feature documentation.

The free browser-based screenshot tool is separate from API access: the quickstart says API use requires a paid plan. Do not treat that browser tool as a free API allowance.

ScreenshotAPI.net

ScreenshotAPI.net describes a real-Chromium rendering API with image, PDF, and video output. Its feature page also lists full-page capture with lazy-load handling, scheduling, bulk processing, and routing files to cloud buckets. Listed workflow integrations include Zapier, Make, Google Sheets, n8n, and viaSocket. These are vendor-published features; confirm their availability and plan inclusion in the current feature documentation.

Compare the requirements that affect total fit

  • Output: Confirm required image formats, PDF, or video rather than assuming all outputs are available on every plan.
  • Page behavior: Check JavaScript rendering, long pages, lazy-loaded content, and authenticated pages if they matter to your use case.
  • Automation: Decide whether you need built-in scheduling, bulk input, workflow integrations, or whether an external scheduler is acceptable.
  • Scale and cost: Estimate monthly captures, included allowance, concurrency, overage rates, and how caching affects your actual workload.
  • Data handling: Determine where results are retained and whether routing them to your own cloud bucket is necessary.
  • Rendering controls: Check viewport or device simulation, geolocation or proxy requirements, headers, and cookies.
  • Developer workflow: Review the API method, SDK coverage, documentation, and integration surface you need.

How to compare them before committing

Vendor feature descriptions cannot establish which service will render your pages more accurately or reliably. A useful evaluation compares both on the same representative workload, rather than relying on marketing claims or a comparison written by one of the vendors.

  1. Select representative URLs. Include the page types your workflow captures, such as a JavaScript-heavy page, a long page with lazy-loaded content, and an authenticated page if applicable.
  2. Match the capture settings. Use the same viewport, wait conditions, full-page behavior, and output requirements wherever both APIs support them.
  3. Record outcomes per page. Note successful renders, failures, missing content, and output quality. Treat unsupported options as a difference to weigh, not as equivalent settings.
  4. Model the monthly bill. Apply each service’s current allowance, concurrency, overage, storage, and scheduling terms to your expected volume.
  5. Run a production-like trial. Include enough of your normal page types and volume to catch issues that a single easy URL would miss.

Another API to try first: ScreenshotNeo

If clean captures and predictable billing matter, ScreenshotNeo is an alternative to try first: it accepts consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; only clean shots are billed. Bot checks, CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, with the outcome identified in response headers. Its MCP server provides screenshot tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.

One GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for parameters and options.

What the public claims do—and do not—establish

ScreenshotAPI.net advertises a 99.9% uptime SLA and 75+ rendering parameters on its feature page. These are vendor claims, not independent comparative findings, and they do not establish that it outperforms Site-Shot for a particular workload. ScreenshotAPI.net’s direct comparison with Site-Shot is also vendor-authored, so treat it as that provider’s perspective rather than an independent review: the comparison was updated June 18, 2026.
