Perplexity AI Download: Official Apps for Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Android

Perplexity is free to download on iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows, and Mac. Use Perplexity’s official platforms page, the Apple App Store, Google Play, or Microsoft Store—not an APK mirror or third-party download site.

Linux users do not currently have an official native Perplexity desktop app, but can use the Perplexity web app. Also note that Comet is a separate AI browser, while Personal Computer is the Mac app’s local-file and desktop-action capability.

Which Perplexity product should you download?

“Perplexity download” can refer to several different products. Selecting the wrong one may install a browser when you wanted the search app, or lead you to look for a native Linux application that Perplexity does not currently list.

Perplexity’s Computer documentation says the cloud feature is available in the workspace on web desktop, iOS, and Android for users with an active subscription. Do not confuse it with Personal Computer, which is a Mac desktop capability with separate local-device permissions.

Download Perplexity on iPhone and iPad

The official iOS and iPadOS app is called Perplexity – AI Search & Chat. The App Store listing identifies Perplexity AI, Inc. as the developer and currently lists the app as free with in-app purchases.

Installation steps

1. Open the App Store on your iPhone or iPad.
2. Search for Perplexity – AI Search & Chat.
3. Confirm that the developer is Perplexity AI, Inc. You can also open the official App Store listing directly.
4. Tap Get, then authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your Apple Account password.
5. Open Perplexity and sign in to the account you intend to use.

The current App Store listing shows a requirement of iOS 18.0 or later for iPhone and iPadOS 18.0 or later for iPad. It showed an app size of approximately 231.7 MB when checked, but both the size and operating-system requirement can change with updates. The listing also showed version 26.30.1; treat that number as a time-stamped store detail rather than a permanent requirement.

Use the same account on every device

After installing, use the same Perplexity sign-in method and email address you use on the web or other devices. If you subscribed through Apple with Hide My Email, Apple may have associated the Perplexity account with an Apple private-relay address rather than your usual email address. Signing in with the wrong address can make your threads or Pro subscription appear to have disappeared. Perplexity’s account-access troubleshooting guide explains this issue.

Microphone, camera, notification, and other permissions are optional for features that use them. Allow only the permissions you want to use; ordinary text searching does not require granting every available permission.

Download Perplexity on Android

The official Android app is called Perplexity – Ask Anything. Open the Google Play listing rather than downloading an APK from an unrelated website. The listing identifies the developer as PerplexityAI or Perplexity Ai, Inc., depending on how the store displays the publisher.

Installation steps

1. Open the Google Play Store.
2. Search for Perplexity – Ask Anything.
3. Verify the developer information and app listing.
4. Tap Install.
5. Open the app and sign in with the correct Perplexity account.
6. Allow microphone, camera, notification, or assistant access only if you want the related functions.

The Android listing describes voice features, cited answers, Pro Search, follow-up threads, Discover, and Library. It showed an update dated July 31, 2026 when checked, but Android version numbers, update dates, availability, and store requirements are volatile. Google Play is the authority for whether the current app is compatible with a particular Android device; do not rely on an old article for a minimum Android version.

Set up Perplexity Assistant on Android

Perplexity Assistant is optional. After updating to the latest version:

1. Open Perplexity and follow the onboarding banner for Perplexity Assistant.
2. Set it as the default assistant if you want to use it that way.
3. Activate it using the gesture or button supported by your device—such as swiping from a bottom corner, holding the power button, or holding the Home button.

The exact activation method varies by Android manufacturer, device, and navigation mode. See Perplexity’s Android Assistant instructions for the current setup.

Samsung installation problem

Some Samsung Galaxy phones may include a pre-installed Perplexity app, and Samsung says that this version may be updated through the Galaxy Store. If Google Play displays “Perplexity cannot be installed,” Samsung’s recommended route is to uninstall the pre-installed version and then reinstall Perplexity from Google Play:

1. Uninstall the existing or pre-installed Perplexity app.
2. Open Google Play.
3. Search for the official Perplexity listing.
4. Install it again.

Download Perplexity on Windows

Perplexity currently offers a native Windows desktop app. You can install it through Microsoft Store or begin from the official Perplexity website.

Option 1: Microsoft Store

1. Open the Microsoft Store on your Windows PC.
2. Open the official Perplexity listing. You can use this Microsoft Store product URI: ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9P9XG917PWCJ.
3. Select Install.
4. Open Perplexity after installation.
5. Sign in to your account.

Option 2: Perplexity’s website download

1. Open Perplexity’s official platforms page.
2. Select the Windows download.
3. Download and run the installer.
4. Open the application and sign in.

Perplexity says the website installer uses Microsoft Store installation and update infrastructure in the background. In other words, it is not necessarily an entirely separate standalone update system; starting the download from Perplexity’s website can still involve Microsoft Store services.

Windows updates

Perplexity says updates download automatically and are applied when the app restarts. To check manually, open Perplexity and go to Settings → About → Open Microsoft Store. The Windows and Mac installation documentation was updated by Perplexity on July 23, 2026, but interface labels can change.

Enable local-file access on Windows

Installing the app does not necessarily make local files immediately available. If you want Perplexity to work with files on the PC:

1. Provision the Sandbox during onboarding, or later open Settings → Sandbox.
2. Wait for Sandbox provisioning to finish.
3. Open Settings → Devices → Local file system access.
4. Select Enable.
5. Add only the folders Perplexity should be able to use.

Perplexity’s current documentation says installed-app control is available on Mac but not currently on Windows. Local-file access and desktop controls are optional; you can use ordinary Perplexity search without enabling them.

Perplexity does not expose a dependable set of Windows CPU, RAM, or Windows-version requirements in the supplied official documentation. Check the live download listing if the installer reports that your particular PC is unsupported.

Download Perplexity on Mac

Perplexity’s current Mac installation uses a direct DMG download from its website, not a Mac App Store installation. The app includes the Mac version of Personal Computer, which adds local-file, native-app, voice, and desktop-action capabilities.

Installation steps

1. Open Perplexity’s official Personal Computer Mac page.
2. Download the current DMG.
3. Open the downloaded DMG file.
4. Drag Perplexity into the Applications folder.
5. Open Perplexity from Applications, then sign in.

Move the app to Applications before launching it. If macOS blocks the app, confirm that the DMG came from the official Perplexity domain and review the relevant macOS security prompt or settings rather than downloading a replacement from a mirror.

Mac operating-system requirement: an official documentation conflict

Perplexity’s pages currently give different requirements:

• The Help Center article says Personal Computer works on macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
• The Personal Computer product page and setup page say the current experience requires macOS 15 Sequoia or later.

Because the product and setup pages are the more current-facing download guidance, macOS 15 should be treated as the safer current target for Personal Computer. Check the live download page before installing on macOS 14; do not assume that every Personal Computer feature will work there.

Mac updates

1. Open Perplexity.
2. Use the macOS menu bar at the top of the screen.
3. Select Perplexity → Check for Updates.
4. Install an offered update.
5. Opt into automatic updates if Perplexity presents that option.

According to Perplexity’s current help documentation, Mac updates are not enabled automatically by default, unlike the Windows update path.

Mac permissions and privacy

Personal Computer may request more access than the ordinary web or mobile search experience. Depending on the feature, macOS may ask for:

• Accessibility permission so Perplexity can click and type.
• Screen & System Audio Recording permission to view screen context and interact with desktop workflows.
• Full Disk Access to read permitted local files.
• Access to selected folders and applications.

Do not grant broad access automatically. Enable only the capabilities you need, connect only the folders you intend to use, and remember that Personal Computer is optional for normal web searching.

Use Perplexity without downloading an app

Open perplexity.ai in a supported browser and sign in. This is the best option for Linux, locked-down work or school computers, low-storage devices, and anyone who does not want to install software or grant desktop permissions.

Perplexity currently lists these browser examples as supported:

• Chrome 122 or later
• Firefox 135 or later
• Edge 132 or later
• Safari 16 or later
• Comet, Brave, and Arc

See Perplexity’s supported-browser documentation for the current list. The web app is also the official fallback for Linux: Perplexity’s platform page lists native desktop apps for Windows and macOS, but not Linux. Third-party Electron clients, Linux wrappers, and unofficial packages should not be presented as official Perplexity downloads.

Normal Perplexity searches use an internet connection. Installing the mobile or desktop app does not mean the full answer service is available offline.

Is Perplexity AI free to download?

Yes, the official app is free to download, and Perplexity offers a free account. However, “free to download” does not mean that every model, search mode, agent capability, or usage level is free.

Perplexity’s current plan comparison describes the Free plan as including basic searches, approximately three Pro Searches per day, one Research query per month, and limited file uploads. The exact limits can change. Advanced models, image generation, higher usage limits, and other premium capabilities require a paid plan such as Pro, Education Pro, Max, or Enterprise, depending on eligibility and availability. The mobile store listings also show in-app purchases.

See the current Perplexity plan comparison before subscribing; do not rely on an old price or limit quoted elsewhere.

Computer credits are separate

Perplexity says credits are used by the cloud-based Computer feature, not by ordinary Ask searches. Its current credit documentation says:

• Consumer Pro may receive a one-time promotional credit bonus but has no standard monthly Computer-credit allocation.
• Consumer Max includes 10,000 Computer credits per month.
• Credit amounts, promotions, and plan rules can change.

Read How credits work on Perplexity for current details. Downloading the Mac app does not by itself make every Computer or Personal Computer feature free.

Safety checklist: verify the real Perplexity app

Use these checks before installing:

1. Start at the official Perplexity platforms page whenever possible.
2. On iPhone or iPad, confirm the app name is Perplexity – AI Search & Chat and the developer is Perplexity AI, Inc.
3. On Android, confirm the listing is Perplexity – Ask Anything and the developer is shown as PerplexityAI or Perplexity Ai, Inc.
4. On Windows, use Microsoft Store or the installer reached from Perplexity’s own site.
5. On Mac, download the DMG from Perplexity’s domain and move the app to Applications.
6. Do not install an APK, EXE, DMG, browser extension, Linux package, or “cracked” client from an unrelated mirror.
7. Do not grant microphone, camera, assistant, Accessibility, screen-recording, or disk permissions unless you understand and want the associated feature.

Installing the ordinary mobile app does not automatically give Perplexity control of the entire phone. Desktop capabilities are different: local-file access is limited to folders you connect, while Personal Computer can request broader Mac permissions for screen and native-app actions.

Store privacy disclosures

Apple’s current App Store disclosure says the iOS developer may collect data linked to the user, including identifiers, usage data, diagnostics, location, and purchase information. Apple also says the developer’s privacy disclosures are not independently verified by Apple. Google Play currently displays data-safety disclosures saying the Android app may share app activity, app information and performance data, and device or other IDs, and may collect location and personal information. These store disclosures can change, so check the live Apple listing or Google Play listing before installation.

Perplexity download troubleshooting

The app does not appear in the store

1. Search the exact current app name rather than only searching for a generic phrase such as AI search.
2. Verify the developer name.
3. Open the listing from Perplexity’s official platforms page instead of a search-ad result.
4. Check the device operating system and store region.
5. If the app is unavailable, use the web app. Do not switch to an APK mirror or unverified desktop client.

Windows installation is stuck or fails

1. Confirm that you are using the current official Microsoft Store listing.
2. Try opening the listing directly in Microsoft Store.
3. If that fails, try the Windows installer reached from Perplexity’s website.
4. Restart Perplexity after installation.
5. Check Settings → About → Open Microsoft Store for updates.
6. If local-file features are missing, open Settings → Sandbox and wait for provisioning to finish before enabling Settings → Devices → Local file system access.

The Mac DMG will not install

1. Delete the existing Perplexity copy.
2. Download a fresh DMG from the official Mac page.
3. Open the DMG and drag Perplexity to Applications.
4. Launch it from Applications, not directly from the DMG window.
5. If macOS blocks it, review the security settings and confirm that the DMG came from Perplexity’s official domain.
6. Contact Perplexity support if the current DMG still fails.

Android says “Perplexity cannot be installed”

On a Samsung Galaxy device, first check whether a pre-installed Perplexity copy is conflicting with Google Play. Uninstall the pre-installed version, then reinstall the official app from Google Play. On other Android devices, also check available storage, pending system updates, Play Store updates, and device compatibility.

My threads or Pro subscription are missing

This usually indicates an account mismatch rather than a failed installation. Check that:

• You used the same email address on every device.
• You used the same sign-in method.
• The email address has identical spelling and casing.
• You did not use Apple Hide My Email on one device and your normal email on another.
• You are not accidentally signed into a different Google, Apple, or Perplexity account.

Perplexity says sessions created while logged out may be deleted after 14 days and cannot be recovered. For account mismatches and missing Pro access, follow its threads and Pro troubleshooting guidance.

The app is slow or appears broken

1. Wait briefly in case the issue is a temporary service problem.
2. Check Perplexity’s current service status page.
3. Hard-refresh the web app if you are using a browser.
4. Update the mobile or desktop app.
5. Temporarily disconnect a VPN to test whether it is interfering with the connection.
6. Contact support@perplexity.ai with your platform, app version, and a shareable session link.

Bottom line

For the standard Perplexity experience, install the official app for your platform: the Apple App Store for iPhone and iPad, Google Play for Android, Microsoft Store or Perplexity’s official route for Windows, and Perplexity’s DMG download for Mac. Use the browser version on Linux or whenever you cannot install software. Choose Comet only if you want a separate AI browser, and enable Personal Computer permissions on Mac only when you need local files or desktop actions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there an official Perplexity app for Linux?

Perplexity’s official platform list does not currently include a native Linux desktop app. Use the web app at perplexity.ai; avoid treating third-party Linux wrappers or packages as official.

Is Comet the same as the Perplexity app?

No. Comet is a separate AI-assisted browser. The standard Perplexity app is the search and answer application for mobile, Windows, and Mac. Download Comet only if you specifically want an AI browser that works with open tabs and web pages.

Can I use Perplexity without downloading anything?

Yes. Open perplexity.ai in a supported browser. This is the recommended option for Linux, managed computers, and users who do not want to grant desktop permissions.

Why did my Perplexity Pro subscription or threads disappear after installing the app?
