To find Snipping Tool in Windows 11, open Start, type Snipping Tool, and select the app in the search results. For a quick screenshot, press Windows + Shift + S; to start a video snip, press Windows + Shift + R.
Find and open Snipping Tool
- Select Start.
- Type Snipping Tool.
- Select Snipping Tool in the results to open the app.
To keep it handy, search for Snipping Tool from the taskbar and choose Pin to taskbar from the search results.
Choose a capture shortcut

Snipping Tool can capture freeform, rectangular, window, and full-screen images, and lets you annotate, save, or share captured images. It also supports video snips. Microsoft identifies Perfect Screenshot and Color picker as Copilot+ PC features, so they are not available on every Windows 11 PC.
If Snipping Tool is missing
If you cannot find Snipping Tool in Start search, Microsoft advises getting it from Microsoft Store. Search the Store for Snipping Tool and follow the install option shown for the app.
