To allow pop-ups in Edge for Android, open … → Settings → Site permissions → Pop-ups and redirects and turn the setting on. To block them, turn it off. The same global toggle controls both pop-ups and redirects.
Pop-ups are different from website notifications and ads embedded in a webpage. If changing the toggle does not address what you see, check which of these is causing it.
How to enable pop-ups in Edge on Android
- Open the Edge app on your Android phone or tablet.
- Tap the … menu button.
- Tap Settings.
- Open Site permissions.
- Tap Pop-ups and redirects.
- Turn the setting on.
With Pop-ups and redirects turned on, Edge allows websites to open pop-ups on the device. Return to the website and try the action again if a site previously reported that a pop-up was blocked.
How to disable pop-ups in Edge on Android
- Open Edge and tap ….
- Choose Settings.
- Tap Site permissions.
- Select Pop-ups and redirects.
- Turn the setting off.
With the setting off, Edge blocks websites from automatically opening a new window, tab, or partial window over the page you are viewing.

Why the setting works this way
The wording can be confusing because many browsers label their control as “Block pop-ups.” Edge’s Android setting is named Pop-ups and redirects, so its behavior is expressed directly: on permits them, while off blocks them.
Microsoft says the blocker prevents websites from automatically opening another window, tab, or partial window. It does not necessarily stop a window that opens after you deliberately select a button or link. For example, clicking a site’s “Open report” button may still open the requested page even when automatic pop-ups are blocked.
Pop-ups, ads, and notifications are different
Changing this setting will not fix every alert or overlay that looks like a pop-up. Use the symptom to identify which Edge feature is involved:

Content blockers is not an alternative location for the pop-up blocker. That section controls options such as Block ads and Allow acceptable ads. Pop-ups remain under Site permissions.

- Recheck the toggle at … → Settings → Site permissions → Pop-ups and redirects. It must be on to allow pop-ups.
- Try the site action again after changing the setting. Some pages only attempt to open the window when you tap a particular button.
- Check whether the “pop-up” is actually an advertisement embedded in the page. Edge’s pop-up-blocker feature cannot block advertisements that are part of the webpage itself.
- If the alert appears in the Android notification center or continues when Edge is closed, manage the site’s notification permission instead.
If unwanted pop-ups continue
- Go to … → Settings → Site permissions → Pop-ups and redirects.
- Turn the setting off.
- Reload the affected website.
If the unwanted item remains inside the page, it may be an embedded advertisement rather than a browser pop-up. If it appears as a device notification, it is a website notification and requires separate notification-permission controls. Microsoft’s website notification guidance explains how to manage those permissions.
Can you allow pop-ups for only one site?
Microsoft’s documented Android instructions provide a global Pop-ups and redirects toggle. They do not document an Android path for adding individual sites to a pop-up allow-list. Do not use Edge’s desktop instructions for this: the desktop path and site-specific controls are not the documented Android interface.

For a temporary exception, you can turn the global setting on, complete the site action, and then turn it off again. This allows pop-ups for all sites while the setting is enabled, so switch it back afterward if you normally want them blocked.
Is the blocker enabled by default?
Microsoft’s general Edge documentation says the pop-up-blocking feature is turned on by default in Edge generally. Microsoft’s Android-specific help does not separately state the default state for every Android installation, so check the toggle on your device rather than relying on an assumed starting value.

How do I turn off the pop-up blocker in Edge on Android?
Open Edge, tap … → Settings → Site permissions → Pop-ups and redirects, then turn the setting on. In this Edge setting, on means pop-ups are allowed.

Why do I still see an alert after disabling pop-ups?
It may be an advertisement embedded in the webpage or a website notification. Embedded page advertisements are not controlled by the pop-up blocker. Notifications appear in Android’s notification center and can appear even when Edge is closed; manage the site’s notification permission instead.
Is the Android pop-up setting under Content blockers?
No. Content blockers controls ad settings such as Block ads. The pop-up control is separately located at Settings → Site permissions → Pop-ups and redirects.
Can I add one website to an Edge Android pop-up allow-list?
Microsoft’s documented Android help provides a global toggle but does not document a per-site pop-up allow-list path. The desktop site-allow path should not be assumed to exist in the Android app.
The Bottom Line
Use Edge → … → Settings → Site permissions → Pop-ups and redirects. Turn it on to allow pop-ups and off to block them. If changing the toggle has no effect, determine whether you are seeing an embedded webpage ad or a website notification instead.
