CapCut Desktop vs. CapCut Web
“CapCut on PC” can mean two different products:

The catalog is not identical across platforms. A template visible on your phone may be unavailable on CapCut Web or Desktop because of region, account, version, licensing, creator settings, or platform restrictions.
Method 1: Use a built-in template in CapCut Desktop
Use this method when the template is already listed in the installed CapCut application. The exact interface can vary by Desktop build.

- Open CapCut Desktop on Windows or macOS.
- On the home screen, look for Templates.
- Select one of the templates shown.
- Click Add or Use Template, depending on your build.
- Import or select the photos and videos requested by the template.
- Replace the placeholders with your own media.
- Adjust any editable text, stickers, music, effects, or timing controls.
- Click Export and save the finished video.
CapCut documentation uses both Add and Use Template for Desktop workflows. A different button name does not necessarily indicate a problem.
What Desktop does not provide
Do not expect the installed app to contain the complete mobile template experience. Desktop does not provide full community-template browsing, template search, TikTok-to-CapCut template deep links, or the complete mobile template-sharing ecosystem. CapCut’s new paid-template purchase flow is also limited to Mobile.
If you see only a handful of templates and no search box, that can be normal behavior rather than a failed installation.
Method 2: Use CapCut Web in a browser
CapCut Web is the better PC option when you want to browse or search templates without using a phone.

- Open CapCut Web in a supported browser and sign in.
- Open Templates.
- Browse the available categories or search for a template.
- Select the template you want to use.
- Click Use Template.
- Upload or select the requested photos and video clips.
- Make your text and other available changes.
- Click Export when the edit is complete.
Web template availability is region-dependent. The Web catalog can also be smaller than the mobile catalog, so a template that appears in CapCut Mobile may not appear in your browser.
Browser-specific limitations
CapCut Web does not provide the full TikTok-integrated template workflow. A TikTok Use template in CapCut link opened on a computer may take you to the CapCut homepage or show that the template is mobile-only. Web also does not provide the purchase flow for new paid templates.

Method 3: Apply a mobile-only template, then continue on PC
This is the reliable approach for community templates, TikTok templates, and templates that do not appear in Desktop or Web.
Apply the template on your phone
- Open the CapCut mobile app.
- Find the template in CapCut or through TikTok.
- Tap Use template or Use template in CapCut.
- Add the photos or videos requested by the template.
- Finish the template-based edit on the phone.
- Confirm that the project is synced to the same CapCut account you will use on the PC.
TikTok template deep links are designed for the mobile app. CapCut Desktop cannot interpret the link directly, and pasting a TikTok URL into the Desktop editor does not activate the template.

- Open CapCut Desktop.
- Sign in to the same account used on your phone.
- On the Desktop home screen, select Spaces from the left side.
- Open the synced project.
- Continue editing or export the project from the PC.
Keep both devices connected to the internet while the project is uploaded or retrieved. A project created while you were signed out may remain local instead of appearing in cloud storage.
Link the mobile and PC accounts with a QR code
If you are unsure whether both devices use the same account, use CapCut’s QR login process:
- Sign in to the CapCut mobile app.
- On the PC, open CapCut Desktop and click Sign in.
- Choose QR code login.
- In the mobile app, tap Me → Scan.
- Scan the QR code shown on the PC.
- Confirm the login on your phone.
Using the same email address is not the only consideration if you originally used a different sign-in method. QR login helps ensure that Desktop is connected to the same CapCut account and cloud space.
How to use paid CapCut templates on PC
CapCut’s current purchase flow for paid templates is available only through the mobile app. Desktop and Web do not provide the purchase flow for new paid templates.

The practical workflow is:
- Open the template in CapCut Mobile.
- Purchase or apply it there, if required.
- Complete the required media replacements on the phone.
- Sync the project to your CapCut account.
- Open it on Desktop through Spaces.
Even after syncing, some paid or community templates may not render correctly on Desktop. Complex mobile template structures can rely on rendering features that the PC application does not reproduce fully.
Update CapCut Desktop before troubleshooting
Before diagnosing a missing template feature or export problem, check the installed version:
- Open CapCut Desktop.
- Click Settings in the top-right corner.
- Select Version.
- Click Check for updates.
- Install the update if one is offered.
To check the installed version, open Settings and find Version. Some versions show an update control in the top-right corner labelled You’re up to date, alongside an upward-arrow icon. Do not uninstall CapCut as part of a routine update; locally saved projects could be lost.
Fix common CapCut template problems on PC
The Templates tab is missing
First, distinguish between a missing limited feature and an absent full gallery. Desktop is not expected to show the complete mobile library or template search.
Try these checks:
- Update CapCut through Settings → Version → Check for updates.
- Sign in to CapCut.
- Check that the PC is connected to the internet.
- Restart CapCut after signing in or updating.
- Check CapCut Web if you need searchable templates.
- Use CapCut Mobile if the template is community-created, paid, or linked from TikTok.
Availability can also vary by region and account. Reinstalling is not a universal fix.
There is no search box in Desktop
This is normally an expected limitation. CapCut states that Desktop has no template-search function and may show only a small set of preloaded free templates. Search in CapCut Web or use the mobile app instead.

A TikTok template link opens the wrong page
TikTok’s Use template in CapCut links are mobile-only. Opening one on a PC may redirect to CapCut’s homepage or identify the template as mobile-only. Do not paste the URL into CapCut Desktop expecting it to create a project. Open the link on a phone with CapCut installed, apply the template there, and sync the finished project.
The synced project shows one still frame, blank media, or gray clips
This can happen when a mobile-created paid or community template is opened in Desktop. Some assets depend on mobile rendering systems, and unfilled placeholders can remain as default preview frames.

Complete the complex portion of the template on mobile first. Then use Desktop for final rendering, color adjustments, or adding local audio. The project may still export correctly after all required media has been added, but Desktop may not be able to edit every layer in the template properly.
The project does not appear under Spaces
Check each of the following:
- Desktop and mobile are signed in to the same CapCut account.
- The mobile project was uploaded or synced to Spaces.
- You are viewing the correct cloud space.
- The PC has an active internet connection.
- The project was not created locally while you were signed out.
A local project created while signed out will not automatically become a cloud project simply because you later sign in.
The template or its assets have disappeared
A template can become unavailable if the creator deletes it, makes it private, or if CapCut removes it. Other causes include regional restrictions, a different account, an outdated app, a connection problem, or platform-specific availability. Check the template on Mobile and Web before assuming your Desktop installation is damaged.

Template projects can contain high-resolution media, numerous effects, and demanding animations. On Desktop, common export failure causes include:

- Insufficient free storage

Try lowering the export resolution or frame rate, freeing disk space, closing other applications, restarting CapCut, and updating the app. If the project is still unstable on Desktop, finish the template edit on mobile and use the PC only for less demanding adjustments.

Common claims that are not correct
- “Every mobile template works directly on PC.” False. Many TikTok-linked and community templates require the mobile app.
- “Desktop has the same searchable library as mobile.” False. Desktop may have only a limited built-in selection and no search.
- “Reinstalling fixes a missing Templates tab.” Not necessarily. The feature may be unavailable in your region or Desktop build.
- “A TikTok template URL activates a Desktop template.” False. The deep-link workflow is mobile-only.
- “One gray frame means a synced project is permanently broken.” Not always. It can be a Desktop rendering limitation affecting a mobile-created template.

Can I use CapCut templates on a Windows PC?
