To stop WARP temporarily, open its taskbar app and switch off the main toggle; to remove an app, uninstall it in Windows Settings. If Cloudflare DNS was configured separately, change that setting separately too.
Turning off the WARP connection does not uninstall the app, and it may not stop Cloudflare DNS if WARP is in DNS-only mode.
First, identify which Cloudflare component you have
| What you see | What it is | Correct action |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare WARP | Consumer desktop client. It can tunnel all traffic or handle DNS only. | Turn off its main toggle or uninstall Cloudflare WARP. |
| Cloudflare One Client | Enterprise Zero Trust client, distinct from the consumer WARP client. | Use the Cloudflare One Client uninstall path. Company policies may restrict removal. |
| No Cloudflare app, but DNS is set to 1.1.1.1 | A DNS configuration rather than the WARP application. | Change the DNS configuration separately. |
The consumer WARP client has two relevant modes. DNS only encrypts DNS requests to Cloudflare’s resolver but does not tunnel normal device traffic. Traffic and DNS encrypts DNS and tunnels device traffic through Cloudflare. These are the current names for the former “1.1.1.1” and “1.1.1.1 with WARP” modes, respectively.
Temporarily disable Cloudflare WARP
Use this when you need to test a website, network, game, corporate connection, or other service without the WARP tunnel running.
#1 Best Overall

- Wide Compatibility: With the RJ45 Connector, network cable can be perfectly compatible with computers, laptops, modems, routers, PS5, X-Box and other networking devices. It can also be fully backward compatible with Cat7, Cat6e, Cat6, Cat5e, Cat5
- Select the Cloudflare/WARP icon in the notification area on the right side of the Windows 11 taskbar. If it is hidden, select the small up-arrow to view additional tray icons.
- Open the Cloudflare WARP application.
- Use the application’s main toggle to switch WARP off.
The control may not be labeled Disable; Cloudflare documents it as the main on/off toggle. This turns off WARP temporarily but leaves the application, its service, and its files installed.
Disable WARP on a particular Wi-Fi or wired network
You can configure WARP not to operate on selected networks while leaving it available elsewhere:
- Select the WARP app icon in the notification area.
- Select the cog icon.
- Select Preferences.
- Open the Connection tab.
- Under Disable for all Wi-Fi / wired networks, select the checkbox for the network where WARP should be disabled.
This is useful when WARP causes problems only on a particular office, school, hotel, or home network.
Important: turning off WARP may not turn off Cloudflare DNS
WARP and Cloudflare DNS are related but are not the same setting. If the client is still operating in DNS only mode, DNS queries continue to go to Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1 resolver even though general traffic is not being tunneled.

- Turning off the traffic tunnel stops WARP’s general traffic routing.
- It does not uninstall Cloudflare WARP.
- It does not necessarily stop DNS requests from using Cloudflare.
If your goal is to stop using Cloudflare entirely, check both the installed application and the DNS configuration. Disabling or uninstalling WARP is not a substitute for changing a DNS server configured separately in Windows, your network adapter, router, or another networking tool.

Uninstall Cloudflare One Client instead
Do not assume that an enterprise Cloudflare One Client installation is the same as the consumer WARP application. Check the exact name in the Installed apps list. Cloudflare’s Cloudflare One Client uninstall guide uses the older “App & Features” label; on Windows 11, look for the app under Installed apps:
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Go to Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Cloudflare One Client.
- Select its More (…) button and choose Uninstall.
If the PC is managed by an employer or school, an administrator policy may prevent you from removing the client or may reinstall it.
What uninstalling removes
The consumer WARP installation includes the graphical application and a Windows service. Typical locations are:

| Service logs | C:\ProgramData\Cloudflare |
| Graphical client logs | C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\Cloudflare |
Normally, use Windows’ uninstall process rather than deleting these folders manually. Manually removing files can leave the service, network components, or configuration behind and can make later cleanup more difficult.
Check certificates after removing an enterprise client
If WARP or Cloudflare One Client deployed a root certificate, uninstalling the client removes that certificate as part of the uninstall process. A certificate that someone deployed separately, however, is not necessarily removed with the application.
If your organization manually installed a Cloudflare certificate, its administrator must remove it separately. Do not delete certificates at random from Windows; an unrelated root certificate may be required by Windows, your employer, security software, or a business application.
If Cloudflare still appears after uninstalling
- Restart Windows after the uninstall completes.
- Check Settings > Apps > Installed apps for both Cloudflare WARP and Cloudflare One Client.
- Check whether another VPN, security product, browser extension, router, or network policy is still using Cloudflare DNS.
- If DNS remains set to
1.1.1.1, change that DNS configuration separately. - On a managed work or school PC, contact the administrator before removing network software or certificates.

Does WARP always act as a VPN?
No. In Traffic and DNS mode, it tunnels device traffic and encrypts DNS. In DNS only mode, it encrypts DNS traffic to Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1 resolver but does not tunnel general device traffic.
Why can I not find “App & Features” in Windows 11?
Microsoft’s current Windows 11 Settings label is Installed apps. Use Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps, then find Cloudflare WARP or Cloudflare One Client.
How do I disable WARP only at work or on one Wi-Fi network?
Open the WARP icon, select the cog, choose Preferences, open Connection, and use Disable for all Wi-Fi / wired networks to check the specific network.
Is Cloudflare WARP the same as Cloudflare One Client?
No. WARP is the consumer client, while Cloudflare One Client is used for enterprise Zero Trust deployments. They are distinct products and may appear as different applications in Windows.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The Bottom Line
For a temporary change, open the Cloudflare WARP tray app and turn off its main toggle. To prevent it from running on one network, use Preferences > Connection and select that network under Disable for all Wi-Fi / wired networks. To remove it, use Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Cloudflare WARP > More (…) > Uninstall. If the installed program is Cloudflare One Client, uninstall that product instead and check separately for DNS settings or manually deployed certificates.
