Choose a Roblox username if you want to change your account’s unique identifier; choose a display name if you only want to change the name other players see. A username change costs Robux, while a display name change is free and limited to once every seven days, according to Roblox’s username guidance and display-name guidance.
Below are 100 name ideas grouped by mood. They are not availability guarantees: a name may already belong to another account or be rejected by Roblox’s filters. Avoid adding your real name, location, school, birthday, or other personal information, as Roblox’s Privacy and Cookie Policy advises.

How to change your Roblox username
A username change costs Robux. Roblox does not state a fixed price in its support article, so check the price shown in your own Change Username screen rather than relying on an old list.

How to change your Roblox display name
If you only want a different name shown to other players, changing the display name is usually the better option. It is free, does not need to be unique, and can be changed once every seven days, according to Roblox’s display-name guidance. Some accounts may see the field labeled Name instead of Display Name.

Username or display name: which should you change?
| Choice | Best for | Cost and limits | Important detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| Username | Changing the account’s unique identifier | Costs Robux; price is shown in the change flow | Previous usernames remain visible through Roblox profile and search features |
| Display name | Changing how you appear in experiences and around Roblox | Free; once every seven days | It does not have to be unique |
Changing a username does not reset the account’s original creation date. However, changing back to a previous username is not free: it uses the normal username-change process and still costs Robux. Roblox also says previous usernames can be viewed in People search, Settings, and on the Profile.

- HERO Gaming Sensor: Next generation HERO mouse sensor delivers precision tracking up to 25600 DPI with zero smoothing, filtering or acceleration
- 11 programmable buttons and dual mode hyper-fast scroll wheel: The Logitech wired gaming mouse gives you fully customizable control over your gameplay
- Adjustable weights: Match your playing style. Arrange up to five 3.6 g weights for a personalized weight and balance configuration
- LIGHTSYNC technology: Logitech G LIGHTSYNC technology provides fully customizable RGB lighting that can also synchronize with your gaming (requires Logitech Gaming Software)
- Mechanical Switch Button Tensioning: A metal spring tensioning system and metal pivot hinges are built into left and right computer gaming mouse buttons for a crisp, clean click feel with rapid click feedback
What to do when a name is rejected
- Already in use: Another account owns the username. A third-party name generator or search page cannot prove that Roblox will accept it.
- Filtered: Roblox continuously filters usernames and other platform text. A phrase that looks harmless to a person can still fail automated moderation.
- Trying to swap accounts: Roblox does not allow users to exchange usernames with alternate accounts.
- Only changing capitalization: Capitalizing an existing username is not automatically free and does not qualify for a special discount.
- Using a trademark-style variation: Roblox’s Terms of Use restrict use of “Roblox,” “Blox,” and similar names in usernames and display names, subject to the stated exception for certain older Experiences. Avoid treating those variations as safe ideas.
- Display name reset: A display name that violates Roblox’s Community Rules or Terms of Use may be reset to the account’s username.
There is no command, console syntax, or chat command for either type of name change. Use the account settings interface. Roblox describes Japanese characters as a beta feature available to some users, not everyone; do not assume arbitrary non-Latin characters work for all accounts.
Privacy checks before choosing a name
Roblox says not to use your real name or other personal information in a username. Changing a name is not complete anonymity: previous usernames can be visible through People search, Settings, and the Profile. Both usernames and display names can be visible on Roblox and in associated experiences. Experience creators that you interact with can access your username, display name, and user ID, according to Roblox’s Privacy and Cookie Policy and display-name guidance.

Can I change back to an old Roblox username?
You can try to reuse a former username, but Roblox requires the normal username-change process and Robux. It is not free.
Why did Roblox reset my display name?
Roblox may reset a display name that does not comply with its Community Rules or Terms of Use, commonly reverting it to the account’s username.
The Bottom Line
Use a display name if you want a free change to your in-game identity. Use a username only when you are willing to spend the Robux shown by Roblox and accept that previous usernames remain discoverable. Whichever option you choose, check availability and moderation inside Roblox itself, and leave personal information out of the name.
