ChatGPT cannot reliably predict the next Mega Millions, Powerball, or other lottery drawing. Lottery draws are designed to be random, and Mega Millions states that jackpot games depend on chance and that large jackpots are unpredictable.
What ChatGPT can do is analyze historical results, check current winning numbers, generate a reproducible random selection, and help you understand the game rules. Those tasks are useful for organizing lottery data, but they do not create an advantage over the drawing itself.

ChatGPT may still respond with a confident-looking set of numbers if you ask it to “predict” a draw. Treat that output as an arbitrary selection unless the prompt asks for a clearly described randomization process. A plausible explanation about “hot,” “cold,” or “overdue” numbers is not evidence that those numbers are more likely to appear next.
How to use ChatGPT to analyze historical lottery results
The most useful approach is to give ChatGPT a clean results file and ask for descriptive analysis rather than a forecast.

1. Prepare a CSV or spreadsheet
Use one drawing per row and descriptive headers in the first row. For a Mega Millions file, a practical structure is:
draw_date,white_1,white_2,white_3,white_4,white_5,mega_ball
For Powerball, replace mega_ball with powerball. Keep the date in a consistent format such as 2025-04-08. Remove notes, jackpot text, dollar amounts, and merged cells from the data table.
2. Upload the file
- Open chatgpt.com and sign in.
- Start a chat and use the + tools menu in the message composer.
- Choose the option to add a file, then upload the .csv, .xls, or .xlsx file.
- Ask ChatGPT to inspect the columns and identify missing, duplicated, or invalid rows before calculating anything.
ChatGPT’s file-analysis feature is currently described as Advanced Data Analysis, rather than the older “Code Interpreter” name. It can use a stateful Jupyter notebook and Python to perform calculations and create tables or charts.
OpenAI’s file-upload guidance sets a hard limit of 512 MB per file. Text and document files are capped at 2 million tokens, while CSV files and spreadsheets are limited to approximately 50 MB, depending on row size. Upload availability can also depend on your plan, model, workspace settings, and account capabilities; OpenAI lists data-analysis uploads on paid plans in its general FAQ and specifically names Plus, Pro, and Enterprise in its file-upload FAQ.
An “upload limit reached” message may appear even if you have uploaded few files recently: ChatGPT separately enforces rolling upload-rate limits and shared storage caps, and failed upload attempts can sometimes count toward the rolling cap.
3. Use a reproducible analysis prompt
For example:
Analyze the uploaded Mega Millions results file. First check for invalid dates, duplicate draws, missing values, numbers outside the legal ranges, and rows with anything other than five distinct white-ball numbers. Then calculate:

How to ask ChatGPT for a random number set
If you simply want numbers to put on a play slip, ask ChatGPT to generate them randomly and state the game rules. Do not ask it to “find the most likely combination.”
For the current Mega Millions format, a play consists of five distinct numbers from 1–70 and one Mega Ball from 1–24. A suitable prompt is:
Generate one random Mega Millions selection using the current format: five distinct white-ball numbers from 1 through 70 and one Mega Ball from 1 through 24. Sort the five white-ball numbers. Do not claim that the selection is more likely to win than any other valid selection.

Mega Millions also provides its own How To Play → Random Number Generator tool. That is a random number generator, not a prediction system. Using ChatGPT instead does not improve the probability of winning.
How to use web search for current lottery information
ChatGPT’s normal answer should not be treated as an authoritative source for a current drawing. To request current information, open ChatGPT at chatgpt.com and select the web-search icon, or type the documented shortcut:
/Search
That shortcut invokes web search in supported ChatGPT experiences. It does not predict a future draw or make historical patterns meaningful.
Use prompts that require official sources:
/Search Check the latest Mega Millions winning numbers and link to the official Mega Millions result page. Do not use an unofficial prediction or results site.
For Powerball, use the official site’s Results → Previous Results, Check Your Numbers, and Watch the Drawing options. For Mega Millions, the official site posts winning numbers and the official drawing video shortly after Tuesday and Friday drawings. Mega Millions drawings take place at 11 p.m. Eastern Time.
Always compare the numbers with the official lottery source or your state lottery before claiming a ticket is a winner. Search results, cached pages, and chatbot responses can be stale or wrong.
Keeping lottery research in a ChatGPT Project
A Project is useful when you repeatedly analyze the same game or update a historical file.

- Create or open a Project in ChatGPT.
- Use the chat composer’s + tools menu.
- Add your CSV or spreadsheet and, when needed, choose Web search.
- Add project instructions such as: Use only official lottery sources for current results. Separate historical description from prediction. Show assumptions and validation checks.
- Keep the cleaned dataset, analysis conversations, and update instructions in that Project.
Projects can retain chats, uploaded files, and project instructions as shared context. Projects are available globally to free and paid plans, but you must be logged in. If you ask the Python analysis environment to retrieve current draw data by itself, it will not work: that environment cannot make external web requests or API calls. Search for or download the current data first, then upload it for analysis.

Prompts that produce better analysis
These prompts keep the request measurable and avoid unsupported certainty:
- Audit this file for duplicate draw dates, invalid ranges, missing values, and duplicate white-ball numbers within a draw.
- Compare the number frequencies in the full dataset with the most recent 50 draws. Clearly label this as descriptive historical analysis.
- Create a chart of each number’s appearance count, then explain why frequency does not predict the next independent draw.
- Generate five valid random selections using a documented method. Show the method and do not rank one selection as more likely to win.
- Check these ticket numbers against the official result for the specified draw date. If you cannot verify the official result, say so.
Common ChatGPT lottery mistakes
“Hot” and “cold” numbers
A frequency table can show that a number appeared more or less often in a selected period. It cannot make that number more likely in the next draw. Choosing a “cold” number because it is overdue relies on the gambler’s fallacy.
Pattern matching
ChatGPT may identify combinations such as several odd numbers, consecutive values, repeated numbers, or a particular total range. These patterns can describe previous draws, but they do not forecast the next one.

Language models can produce unsupported certainty. Ask for the calculation, code, assumptions, and limitations. OpenAI recommends reviewing generated code, outputs, and assumptions before relying on a data-analysis result. You can ask ChatGPT to show or change the method.
Using outdated Mega Millions information
Several commonly copied guides are now wrong. Mega Millions tickets changed from $2 to $5 beginning with the April 8, 2025 drawing. The optional Megaplier was retired when the new game launched on April 5, 2025 and replaced by a built-in multiplier. Just the Jackpot was also retired when the new game launched. There is no official Mega Millions mobile app; individual state lotteries may offer their own apps.

A historical lottery-results file usually contains public information, but do not upload personal details, account credentials, payment information, or photographs of tickets containing sensitive data.
For a temporary analysis, start a new conversation from the model menu and choose Temporary Chat. Temporary Chats do not appear in history, do not use or create memories, and are not used to train models. You can also review Settings → Personalization → Memory if you do not want relevant prior context to influence the conversation.

On consumer plans, uploaded content may be used to improve model performance depending on your data settings. OpenAI says content submitted to business offerings such as the API and ChatGPT Enterprise is not used for that purpose. Check the settings and plan terms that apply to your account before uploading anything sensitive.
What is the honest answer to “predict my lottery numbers”?
The honest answer is that ChatGPT cannot provide a verified prediction. It can calculate statistics from past results, generate a random selection, and help verify a completed drawing. None of those actions changes the underlying odds.
If you choose to play, set a spending limit, use official results, and regard every valid combination as having the same chance under the game’s rules. Do not spend more because a chatbot labels numbers “due,” “lucky,” or “high probability.”
