Adding games to a Game Stick Lite 4K usually means editing its MicroSD/TF card, not using an on-screen import option. Because the name covers different hardware and firmware variants, first identify your device and check the card’s existing files; some use game/games.db, others use Games/GAME.csv, and some use numbered folders with .dat index files.

Back up the card before editing. Do not assume instructions for one variant apply to another.

What you need

  • The Game Stick Lite 4K and its MicroSD/TF card
  • A computer with a card reader, if the card is readable on your computer
  • ROM files you are legally entitled to use
  • A backup location with enough free space for the card contents
  • DB Browser for SQLite (DB4S) if your stick uses games.db
  • A spreadsheet or plain-text editor if your stick uses GAME.csv

1. Identify your Game Stick variant first

  1. Connect the stick to the TV and turn it on.
  2. Press SELECT from the main menu.
  3. Open System information.
  4. Write down the displayed type, model, and firmware version.

Reported examples include G02-H133-001 with firmware V1.0.0 2024-02-20/17:47 and G02-H133-2P8-V2.0. These identifiers matter because storage layouts and game indexes can differ.

Remove the MicroSD/TF card and inspect its contents. Look for one of these layouts:

What you find Likely procedure
A root-level game folder containing games.db Use the SQLite database method
A Games folder containing GAME.csv Use the CSV index method
Numbered ROM folders containing .dat files Follow that variant’s existing .dat structure; do not create a CSV file

If Windows asks to format the card, click Cancel. Formatting can erase installed games and system data.

2. Back up the card before editing

  1. Create a folder on your computer, such as Game Stick Backup.
  2. Copy every readable file and folder from the card into it.
  3. If the card contains games.db, make a second copy of that file.
  4. Keep the backup untouched until you have tested the new game.

A bad database edit can stop the stock interface from working correctly. If Windows exposes only one partition on a card with several partitions, do not format or delete the visible partition to try to fix it.

Method 1: Add a game to the game/games.db variant

Use this method only if the card actually contains a root-level game folder and a games.db file inside it.

Step 1: Find the correct ROM folder

Open the game folder and identify the folder for the system you are adding. Examples from one documented layout include:

Folder System
fc NES/Famicom

Folder names vary, so use the folders already present on your card. Check the extensions of existing games in the target folder, then copy your ROM there in a compatible format. Do not put a PlayStation image in an NES folder or rename a ROM’s extension just to match another file.

Step 2: Add optional cover art

If existing games use cover images, add a PNG with the same base filename as the ROM. For example, pair Final Fantasy – Tactics Advance.GBA with Final Fantasy – Tactics Advance.png. Match spelling, spaces, punctuation, and capitalization. Cover art is optional and does not replace the database entry.

Step 3: Edit games.db with DB4S

  1. Open a working copy of games.db in DB4S. If you copied the card contents to your computer, edit that copy rather than the original card file.
  2. Select the Browse Data tab.
  3. Open the table dropdown and select tbl_en.
  4. Choose Insert a new record.
  5. Add the title entry, matching the ROM filename as existing rows do.
  6. Use the table dropdown again and select tbl_game.
  7. Insert the corresponding game record by following the field order, values, and structure of an existing record.

The available instructions do not provide a universal schema or safe SQL command. Do not guess at IDs, paths, language fields, or system values. Compare a working row for the same console and reproduce its structure, changing only the values required for your ROM.

Make sure the database record points to the filename you copied. A mismatch between the database entry and the card filename can leave the title listed but unable to launch.

  • 🎁 Perfect Gift for All Ages – Share the Fun Whether it's for family night, birthdays, or holiday surprises, brings generations together. A heartfelt gift for kids, retro lovers, or anyone who grew up with 8-bit joy.

Step 4: Save and reinstall the database

  1. Save the edited database in DB4S.
  2. Close DB4S so the file is no longer locked.
  3. Copy the edited games.db back into the card’s original game folder, replacing the old file.
  4. Safely eject the card.
  5. Put the card back into the Game Stick Lite 4K.
  6. Power on the stick and check List, Classification, or Search for the new title.

Method 2: Add a game to the Games/GAME.csv variant

One reported variant identified as G02-H133-001, firmware V1.0.0 2024-02-20/17:47, uses GAME.csv inside a Games folder. This is a tested format for that variant, not a universal procedure.

  1. Open the card’s Games folder.
  2. Find GAME.csv and make a backup copy.
  3. Open the CSV in a spreadsheet or text editor.
  4. Inspect several existing rows, including rows for the same console as your new game.
  5. Copy an appropriate existing row and edit it rather than inventing a column layout.
  6. For the reported PS1 format, the row used the exact game filename before the .bin extension across the relevant columns, with ps1 in the last column.
  7. Save the file as CSV, preserving its original delimiter and encoding.
  8. Copy the ROM into the matching folder and safely eject the card.
  9. Reinstall the card and reboot the stick.

For example, if the file is Ridge Racer.bin, use the exact filename expected by that particular CSV layout. Do not change the extension or assume a different PS1 image layout will work.

If your card does not already contain GAME.csv, do not create one based on this example. Some units instead use .dat files inside numbered ROM folders.

What if the card is not readable in Windows?

Game Stick cards do not all use a normal, single Windows-readable partition. Reports describe cards with multiple Linux partitions and others where a U-Boot region occupies the beginning of the card. Windows may show only one partition—or no useful ROM partition.

Try these safe checks:

  • Use a different card reader and USB port.
  • Check whether the card appears in Windows Disk Management, but do not initialize, format, or delete its partitions.
  • If you use another operating system that can read Linux filesystems, mount the card read-only unless you understand the risks.
  • Restore the card to the stick and use View local files only for viewing; stock manuals do not document it as a ROM-import tool.

A user on Reddit reported connecting the stick to a PC through its Micro-USB port with the card installed and waiting about 20 seconds for it to boot. The user reported a roughly 1-GB FAT32 partition appearing in the stick’s downloads tab, with room for approximately one or two PS1 games. Treat this as a model-dependent workaround, not a guaranteed replacement for card access.

Why the new game does not appear

Symptom Likely cause What to check
ROM is absent from the menu The index was not updated Edit games.db or GAME.csv, depending on the card
Title appears but will not start Wrong folder, extension, path, or database value Compare the new entry with a working game for the same system
Cover is missing PNG filename does not exactly match the ROM Match the complete base filename, including spaces and punctuation
Stick behaves abnormally after editing Database or index corruption Restore the original backed-up file
Windows asks to format the card Unsupported or damaged partition layout Cancel the prompt; do not format
PS1 game works on another model but not yours Different PS1 indexing system Check whether the unit uses CSV, database records, or numbered-folder .dat files
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Support on Ko-Fi

Do you need to update the firmware?

Not for the stock file-editing procedures described here. The documented methods add a ROM and update the card’s existing index or database; they do not require a firmware update. Avoid flashing firmware merely because a copied game does not appear.

Custom systems such as GStickOS are a separate project with different installation and storage instructions. Installing custom firmware is not necessary for the stock methods in this guide.

FAQ

Can I add games from the Game Stick Lite 4K menu?

Stock manuals list options such as List, Classification, History, Collection, Search, and View local files, but do not document an Add Game, Import ROM, or Scan Games command. In most cases, you must edit the MicroSD/TF card externally.

Why did copying the ROM alone not work?

Several stock variants use an index. The database variant requires matching entries in tbl_en and tbl_game; the CSV variant requires a row in GAME.csv. A file can be on the card yet remain invisible to the menu.

Where should NES, GBC, and Atari games go?

On one documented database-based layout, they go in game/fc, game/gbc, and game/atari, respectively. Confirm the folder names on your own card because layouts differ.

Can I create GAME.csv if my card does not have it?

No. The CSV instructions apply to variants that already contain Games/GAME.csv. Other units use games.db or numbered folders with .dat files, and creating an unrelated CSV may do nothing or cause problems.

What should I do if I accidentally corrupted games.db?

Power off the stick, replace the edited database with your original backup, safely eject the card, and test it again. This is why backing up before editing is essential.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does SELECT + START import games?

No. SELECT + START opens the in-game emulator menu, with options such as SAVE, SETTINGS, EXIT, and CONTINUE. It is not the stock game-import interface.

The Bottom Line

First identify the card layout and firmware variant. If you have game/games.db, copy the ROM to the correct system folder and add matching records through DB4S. If you have Games/GAME.csv, copy the ROM and reproduce the existing CSV row format. If you find numbered folders and .dat files, follow that layout instead of creating a database or CSV. Always back up the card, cancel any format prompt, and safely eject it before testing.
