To use Yahoo Mail in Windows 11, add your Yahoo account to Outlook for Windows. Choose the instructions for new Outlook or classic Outlook, depending on which app you have; both use Yahoo’s sign-in and permission flow. If Outlook requires manual setup, use Yahoo’s published IMAP and SMTP settings.
Choose your Outlook version

Add Yahoo Mail to new Outlook for Windows
- Open Outlook. Select View > View settings, or choose File > Account info if that is the entry point shown.
- Select Accounts > Your accounts.
- Under email accounts, select Add Account.
- Enter your full Yahoo email address and select Continue.
- Complete the Yahoo sign-in in the browser tab that opens, including any two-factor authentication configured for your account.
- Review Yahoo’s permissions prompt and select Agree. If the browser asks to open Outlook, confirm.
- In Outlook, select the Yahoo account or folder and open its Inbox.
Add Yahoo Mail to classic Outlook for Windows
- Open Outlook and select File > Add Account.
- Enter your Yahoo email address and select Connect.
- Complete Yahoo’s sign-in and any configured two-factor authentication.
- Review Yahoo’s permissions prompt and select Agree, then finish the setup.
- Select the Yahoo account in Outlook and open its Inbox.
Set up Yahoo Mail manually with IMAP
Try Yahoo’s sign-in flow first. If Outlook asks for manual settings, classic Outlook lets you select File > Add Account, enter your email address, open Advanced options, enable Let me set up my account manually, and choose IMAP. Enter Yahoo’s published settings:

Yahoo’s help guidance for this manual setup directs users to generate an app password. Whether one is needed depends on your account security and the mail client’s sign-in method. What IMAP means for Yahoo Mail
IMAP syncs mail actions between Outlook and Yahoo’s server, so changes made in the mail app are reflected in Yahoo Mail. POP works differently: it downloads copies and may leave messages or actions local, depending on its settings. For Yahoo Mail synchronization across devices, IMAP is the relevant manual setup option.

Why do new and classic Outlook have different steps?
They have different interfaces. In new Outlook, use View > View settings > Accounts > Your accounts; in classic Outlook, use File > Add Account.
Why does Outlook open a Yahoo sign-in page?
Outlook may use Yahoo’s browser-based sign-in and ask you to approve permissions before it can access your mailbox. Complete the sign-in and confirm the permission prompt.

When should I use a Yahoo app password?
Use one if manual IMAP setup or your mail client requires it. The requirement depends on Yahoo account security and the sign-in method; check Yahoo’s current help guidance if your regular password is rejected.
