To share your screen in a Microsoft Teams meeting, select Share or Share content in the meeting controls, choose a screen, window, PowerPoint file, or whiteboard, and select Stop sharing when finished. Share one window to keep the presentation focused; sharing an entire screen can expose anything visible there, including notifications.
Teams also supports screen sharing from a chat and from its mobile app. Available controls can vary by client and organization policy.
Share your screen during a Teams meeting
- Join the Teams meeting.
- In the meeting controls, select Share or Share content.
- Choose what to present: your entire screen, a specific window, a PowerPoint file, or a whiteboard.
- If participants need to hear sound from your device, turn on Include sound before selecting content.
- Select the screen, window, or other content you want to share. Teams may briefly show a loading screen as sharing starts.
To reach presenter controls, move the cursor to the top of the shared screen. Select Stop sharing when you are done.
What should you share?
| Option | Best for | What participants see |
|---|---|---|
| Window | Presenting one application | The selected application window |
| Screen | Demonstrating a workflow across applications | Everything visible on the selected display |
| PowerPoint Live | Presenting a slide deck through Teams | The presentation in Teams’ presentation flow |
| Whiteboard | Drawing or brainstorming | A shared whiteboard |
Share a specific application or your entire screen
To show one app, select Window in the sharing panel and choose the application. To show everything on a display, choose Screen and select the monitor. Use a window to keep the share focused on one application; choose the whole screen when you need to move between apps.

Before sharing your entire screen, close private material and consider suppressing notifications. Microsoft cautions that mobile screen sharing can show notifications and recommends turning on Do not Disturb to prevent them from appearing.
Share computer audio
If participants need to hear audio from your device, turn on Include sound before selecting the content to share. The control’s location can vary by client. If you forgot to enable it, stop sharing and start again with sound enabled.
Present a PowerPoint file with PowerPoint Live
- In the meeting, select Share content.
- Choose a file in the PowerPoint Live section.
- Wait for the presentation to load, then use the presentation controls to navigate the slides.
The PowerPoint Live section can list recent files opened or edited in the team’s SharePoint site or OneDrive. This is a presentation path separate from sharing your whole desktop.
Share your screen in a Teams chat
- Open the chat.
- Select More chat options in the upper-right corner.
- Select Screen sharing.
- Choose a screen or Window. Other chat participants receive a request to accept the share.
- When finished, select Stop sharing in the call controls, then leave the call.
Microsoft describes chat screen sharing as sharing without video or audio; it opens a muted call. Linux users cannot share screens in a Teams chat, according to Microsoft Support.

Share your screen from a phone
- Join the meeting in the Teams mobile app.
- Tap Share in the meeting controls.
- Choose the content type you want to share.
- Tap Start presenting or Start Broadcast when prompted.
- To finish, tap Stop presenting or Stop Broadcast.
The mobile menu can offer a PowerPoint, photo, live video, screen, or whiteboard, depending on the client. Mobile screen sharing shows the entire screen and other activity, so turn on Do not Disturb to keep alerts from appearing.
Share your screen in Teams on the web
- Open Teams in Google Chrome or the latest Microsoft Edge and join the meeting.
- Select Share in the meeting controls.
- Choose the content you want to present.
- Grant the browser screen-recording permission if prompted.
Microsoft’s cited web guidance lists Chrome or the latest Edge for screen sharing and says Linux is not currently supported for meeting screen sharing. Browser permissions may be required. On macOS, screen-access prompts may appear; native macOS content sharing is an opt-in setting, and give/take control is not supported in that experience. See Microsoft’s meeting presentation guidance.
Let another participant control your screen
To let someone interact with a shared screen, select Give control on the presenter toolbar and choose the participant. Select Take back to regain control. Microsoft Support warns: “Only give control to people you trust. People with control can send commands that could affect your system or other apps.”
If you need to interact with another person’s presentation, select Request control; the presenter can approve or deny it. Select Release control to end your control.
