To open Microsoft Edge’s Surf game, enter edge://surf in the address bar; it works online or offline. To block access on a managed browser, use Microsoft’s Allow surf game policy—there is no documented consumer-facing Settings toggle for it.
Open Surf in Microsoft Edge
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Click the address bar, enter edge://surf, and press Enter.
- Choose a mode from the game settings menu if needed: Endless mode, Time trials, or Zig zag mode.
The game supports keyboard, mouse, touch, and controllers. Its settings menu also includes controls and instructions, high-visibility mode, reduced-speed mode, and an option to reset statistics. Microsoft confirms that Surf can be opened directly at edge://surf while online as well as from Edge’s offline page.
Disable Surf with Group Policy on Windows
This method is intended for administrators or anyone managing Edge through Local Group Policy. The policy is called Allow surf game, and its policy identifier is AllowSurfGame.
- Open Local Group Policy Editor. Press Win + R, enter gpedit.msc, and press Enter.
- Go to Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates → Microsoft Edge.
- Open Allow surf game.
- Select Disabled.
- Click Apply, then OK.
- Close every Edge window and reopen Edge.

Enable Surf with Group Policy
- Open gpedit.msc.
- Navigate to Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates → Microsoft Edge.
- Open Allow surf game.
- Select Enabled, or select Not Configured to remove the restriction.
- Click Apply, then OK.
- Restart Microsoft Edge.
Both Enabled and Not Configured allow users to play the game. If an organization sets the policy, changing a local setting may not override the organization’s configuration.
Disable Surf through the Windows Registry
Use the Registry method only if you understand how policy values affect Edge. Back up the relevant registry key before editing it, and do not change unrelated values.
Microsoft documents this policy under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge. Within that key, create or edit this value:

- Press Win + R, enter regedit, and press Enter.
- Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge. Create the Edge key if it does not exist.
- Create a DWORD (32-bit) Value named AllowSurfGame.
- Set its data to 0.
- Close Registry Editor and restart Edge.
To re-enable the game, delete the AllowSurfGame value so the policy becomes unconfigured, then restart Edge. Alternatively, configure the corresponding Group Policy as Enabled.
Disable Surf on macOS or iOS
Microsoft documents AllowSurfGame as a managed preference on macOS and iOS. The documented disabling example uses a Boolean value of false, represented as <false/>. The exact deployment method depends on the organization’s device-management system. Restart Edge after deploying the setting if the management system does not automatically refresh the browser.

The policy is mandatory and applies per profile, but Microsoft notes that it does not apply to a profile signed in with a Microsoft account. This can explain why a policy appears ineffective in a particular profile.

What the Surf settings menu can and cannot do
The in-game settings menu changes how Surf behaves. It can switch game modes, show controls, enable high-visibility mode, reduce the game speed, and reset statistics. It is not an administrative availability switch.
For that reason, looking under Settings in Edge for a “Surf game” toggle will not disable the game. On managed devices, use Allow surf game instead.
Common mistakes
- Checking only the offline page: the game can also be opened directly with edge://surf.
- Expecting a normal Edge Settings option: Microsoft does not document a consumer-facing “Surf game” toggle.
- Using an Edge Flag: Microsoft’s documented control is the AllowSurfGame policy, not a flag.
