You can earn from an unused internet connection by allowing a company to route approved customer traffic through your IP address. These services do not pay for your internet plan or connection speed; payment is based on traffic actually routed, or on other activities offered inside the app.
The three options below are different products. Honeygain focuses on passive bandwidth sharing, PacketStream pays Packeters for customer traffic routed through their residential connection, and Pawns.app combines bandwidth sharing with surveys, games, and quests. Check your ISP’s terms and your data cap before running any of them.

The rates and availability can change. In particular, do not treat old articles claiming fixed Honeygain or Pawns.app bandwidth rates as current universal guarantees.
1. Honeygain
Honeygain turns an idle connection into a source of proxy traffic. The company says its partners use the shared bandwidth for tasks such as web crawling and content delivery. Honeygain says partners do not know the user’s identity, while the user does not know which partner is using the connection.

Honeygain does not currently publish a fixed traffic rate. Demand depends on your location, network type, available supply, and the number of other users sharing bandwidth. It may reduce traffic temporarily in areas where supply is greater than demand.
How to install Honeygain
- Open dashboard.honeygain.com.
- Click Sign-up or Start earning now.
- Complete registration. Honeygain displays a download window after signup.
- In the Dashboard, click Confirm email. Open the message titled Please verify your email and click Verify email.
- If verification keeps repeating, log out of the Dashboard and log back in.
Windows setup
- Choose Download For Windows.
- Run the installer and click Next.
- Check I accept Honeygain’s Terms of Use…, then click Next.
- Launch Honeygain and select Log in.
Android setup
Honeygain’s Android app is not currently listed in Google Play. Download it manually from Honeygain’s website, then choose Open and Install. Accept or deny notifications, accept the Terms of Use, select Sign up & Claim, and register by email or social login. Honeygain is not currently available on iOS. macOS installation is also manual rather than through the App Store.
Important Honeygain limitations
- Honeygain limits how many devices can operate on one internet connection. Running several devices does not necessarily multiply earnings.
- Traffic is commonly higher during the first one or two weeks while Honeygain checks IP compatibility, fraud indicators, and connection speed. A later drop does not automatically mean the app is broken.
- Honeygain says desktop users earn 30% more than mobile-only users, but this is not a guaranteed dollar amount.
- If Content Delivery is enabled and a partner accesses the same streaming service through your connection, you may temporarily lose access to that service.
Honeygain withdrawals
The standard withdrawal threshold is $20 or 20,000 credits. For PayPal, reach the threshold, click payout, choose PayPal, and enter the email verification code. Honeygain says a Tipalti registration invitation normally arrives within one business day; after registration, the payout generally arrives in two to three business days.
Honeygain also offers JumpTask payouts. Its JumpTask Mode is described as having no minimum withdrawal limit, instant JMPT payouts, and no processing delay. To switch modes, use the wallet toggle in the upper-right corner of the Dashboard, register with JumpTask, and add your JumpTask account ID. Honeygain says the mode changes the payout currency, not device performance. For a direct JMPT payout, use payout, select JMPT, enter a BSC-supported wallet address, and enter the email verification code. Check the address carefully: Honeygain says it cannot be changed after confirmation.

PacketStream calls people who share bandwidth Packeters. Its model is more narrowly defined than Pawns.app’s: the Packeter app runs in the background and routes customer traffic through your connection. PacketStream currently states a rate of $0.10 per GB of customer traffic actually routed.
That distinction matters. You are not paid $0.10 for every gigabyte included in your broadband plan, and you are not paid according to your connection’s advertised download speed. You earn only when PacketStream routes traffic through your connection.
How to start sharing with PacketStream
- Open the PacketStream signup page.
- Enter a Username, Email, and Password.
- Click Create account.
- Download the PacketStream client for Windows or macOS, or use the Linux client through Docker.
- Sign in and leave the Packeter application running.
Sharing occurs only while the app is running. Closing or uninstalling it stops the sharing. PacketStream says no inbound ports or router port forwarding are required because the client uses your existing outbound connection.
PacketStream currently supports Windows, macOS, and Linux. Mobile bandwidth sharing is not supported, despite older pages and posts that may claim otherwise.

You can request a PayPal payout once your balance reaches $5. PacketStream says processing takes place within one week. A 3% PacketStream cashout fee applies, and PayPal may charge additional fees.

For example, a $5 withdrawal would incur a $0.15 PacketStream fee before any PayPal charge. At the stated $0.10-per-GB rate, reaching $5 requires 50 GB of routed customer traffic, although actual availability depends on demand and your location.
Do not confuse the two PacketStream products
PacketStream’s documentation also contains commands for customers who want to use PacketStream as a proxy. Those commands are not Packeter installation commands and do not help you earn by sharing bandwidth. You do not need to run a proxy-customer command to become a Packeter; use the Packeter client for sharing.
3. Pawns.app
Pawns.app is no longer just a bandwidth-sharing app. Its current consumer product combines passive earning with Surveys, a Quest tab, rewarded games, contests, and other activities. That makes it a better fit if you want to earn actively as well as leave an app running.

The consumer homepage provides links to both the App Store and Google Play and states that the mobile app is available for iOS and Android. Its basic setup is:
- Choose Download FREE Pawns.app.
- Create and verify your account.
- Open Surveys to check available questionnaires.
- Use Quest for listed activities and browse the rewarded-games area.
- Withdraw once your balance reaches $5.
Pawns.app’s homepage lists PayPal, Bitcoin, ACH, Venmo, Visa gift cards, and other gift cards as payment options. The Help Center lists these payout fees:

Pawns.app says receiving Bitcoin through Bitlocus can avoid the stated $4 Bitcoin fee. Compare the net amount, not just the headline balance, before choosing a payout method.
What about the advertised $0.20 per GB?
Pawns’ business SDK page states $0.20 per GB for traffic shared through users’ IPs. However, that figure is presented in the context of the Pawns.app SDK for app developers. The consumer homepage does not establish that every consumer user receives a guaranteed $0.20 per GB. Treat it as an SDK/business figure, not a universal consumer earning promise.

Age and account checks
Pawns.app’s homepage states that its services are available to people over 18, although another FAQ statement refers to parental or guardian permission for underage users. Because those statements conflict, the safer interpretation is to use the service only if you meet the explicit over-18 requirement.

Before you run a bandwidth-sharing app
- Check your data allowance. Metered or capped plans can turn a small payout into an overage charge.
- Check your ISP and network rules. A workplace, school, hotel, or apartment network may prohibit proxy or bandwidth-sharing traffic.
- Monitor the connection. These apps use some available capacity. Test latency, streaming, video calls, and monthly data consumption after installation.
- Use one device first. Honeygain limits devices on one connection, and adding clients does not guarantee proportionally higher earnings.
- Review account and payout requirements. Verify email addresses, use a payout account you control, and double-check irreversible wallet addresses.
- Remove the app if the trade-off is poor. Closing PacketStream stops its sharing; the same practical test applies to the other apps—compare actual earnings with data use, performance, and privacy comfort.
FAQ
Are these apps selling my personal files?
The services described here are primarily sharing bandwidth or routing traffic, not advertising access to your local files. Honeygain says its partners do not know the user’s identity, but you should still review each service’s terms, permissions, and privacy policy before installing it.
Which app pays the most?

Whichever you test, watch your data usage and connection quality for a full billing cycle. The money is only worthwhile if it exceeds the cost and inconvenience of sharing your connection.
