Snapchat’s support documentation says Cameos in Chat are no longer available. The former Cameos tab, Cameos selfie setup, and two-person Cameos controls may therefore be missing even in an up-to-date Snapchat installation.
Snapchat has moved related selfie-based features into My Selfie. That is the supported place to create, manage, restrict, or delete the selfie data used by newer Snapchat experiences.
What happened to Snapchat Cameos?
Cameos used to let you place your face into short, looping videos and send those clips in a Snapchat conversation. The usual process involved opening a Chat, tapping the sticker or emoji button, choosing the Cameos tab, and creating a Cameos selfie.
That workflow is now discontinued. Snapchat’s current support page states that Cameos in Chat are no longer available. Snapchat says it is upgrading other experiences powered by My Selfie, but it does not document a replacement that recreates the original Cameos-in-Chat feature.

Why you cannot find the Cameos tab
Older guides may tell you to use one of these controls:
- Open a Chat and tap the sticker or emoji icon.
- Choose the Cameos tab.
- Tap Create Cameos Selfie.
- Turn on two-person Cameos.
- Change Who Can Use My Cameos Selfie.
Those instructions describe the former feature. If the Cameos icon or tab is absent, that is not necessarily a Snapchat bug, an account restriction, or an installation problem. Updating Snapchat, reinstalling it, clearing the cache, switching conversations, or changing the old Cameos privacy setting will not restore a feature Snapchat has discontinued.
How to use Snapchat’s current My Selfie feature
My Selfie is the current Snapchat location for selfie images used by generative-AI features and other Snapchat experiences, including ads. Snapchat says you can take selfies with the Snap camera, select images from your camera roll, or use an existing Cameos selfie. Menu labels can vary slightly by app version; Snapchat documents this route:
- Open Snapchat.
- Open My Account by tapping your profile icon.
- Tap the gear to open Settings.
- Under My Account, tap My Selfie.
- Tap Update My Selfie and follow the on-screen instructions.
You may also be able to set up My Selfie from the AI Snaps tab in Memories. Setup may provide access to some My Selfie-powered features, but it does not bring back the old Cameos video tab in Chat.

Stop friends from generating with your My Selfie
Snapchat says friends may be able to use your image or likeness in certain My Selfie-powered features. To restrict that access:
- Open your profile and tap the gear to open Settings.
- Scroll to App & Privacy.
- Tap My App.
- Under Customize Appearance, tap My Selfie.
- Tap Who Can Generate with My Selfie.
- Select Only Me.
- Tap the back button to leave the setting.
This is a privacy control for supported My Selfie features. It is not the old Cameos setting and does not enable Cameos in Chat. If the menu labels or locations differ, check the current in-app Settings.
Prevent My Selfie from appearing in ads
Snapchat provides a separate setting for whether your My Selfie may be used in ads delivered to you:
- Go to My Account → ⚙️ Settings.
- Open App & Privacy → My App.
- Under Customize Appearance, tap My Selfie.
- Turn off See My Selfie in Ads.
This setting is separate from Who Can Generate with My Selfie. Turning off ads does not stop friends from using My Selfie, and selecting Only Me does not by itself change the advertising setting.

Delete your My Selfie
To remove the My Selfie data managed in Snapchat:
- Open Snapchat and go to your profile.
- Tap ⚙️ Settings.
- Tap My Selfie under My Account.
- Tap Clear Selfie.
Follow the confirmation prompt if Snapchat displays one. Deleting My Selfie affects supported My Selfie-powered features; it is not a way to recover or remove an old Cameos tab.
What happened to an old saved Cameo?
If a previously saved Cameo can no longer be sent, there is no supported Chat procedure that restores it. Snapchat’s current documentation does not provide a workaround for sending classic Cameos after the feature’s removal.
You can still send ordinary Snaps, stickers, GIFs, videos, and supported AI-generated content through the features currently shown in your version of Snapchat. However, those options should not be described as the original Cameos feature.
Privacy note
Snapchat describes Cameos as using a selfie to segment the shape of a user’s face and hair, rather than facial-recognition software. That older Cameos explanation is now primarily historical because the Chat feature has been discontinued.

Snap says content you create and share is preserved until you delete the content or your account. Its camera-information documentation says face, hand, and voice information used to power relevant features is deleted within three years of your last Snapchat use, or within two years if Snap detects that you are in Colorado. Snap also says it deletes this information within 90 days of an annual review decision that it is no longer necessary to store it. These are Snap’s stated policies and do not mean that a particular user’s data has already been deleted.

Can I still use Snapchat Cameos?
No. Snapchat currently says that Cameos in Chat are no longer available. The original personalized looping videos cannot be created or sent through the former Cameos workflow.
Why is Cameos missing from Snapchat?
The feature has been discontinued in Chat. Its absence is not necessarily caused by an outdated app, a cache problem, or an account error.

Does My Selfie replace Cameos?
My Selfie is Snapchat’s current selfie-based feature system, but it does not recreate the old Cameos tab or guarantee the same personalized video experience.
How do I stop friends from using my Snapchat selfie?
Go to My Account → Settings → App & Privacy → My App → Customize Appearance → My Selfie → Who Can Generate with My Selfie, then choose Only Me. Menu labels may vary, so check the current in-app Settings if needed.
How do I delete My Selfie on Snapchat?
Go to My Account → Settings → My Selfie and tap Clear Selfie.
Will updating or reinstalling Snapchat bring back Cameos?

Bottom line: There is currently no supported way to use the original Snapchat Cameos-in-Chat feature. Ignore older instructions promising a Cameos tab or a Create Cameos Selfie button. For Snapchat’s current selfie-based tools, use My Account → Settings → My Selfie; choose Who Can Generate with My Selfie → Only Me to restrict friend access, or choose Clear Selfie to delete it.
