Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Windows 11 keeps its main graphics controls in Settings > System > Display > Graphics. From there, you can choose a preferred GPU for individual apps, enable supported gaming features, and adjust options such as Auto HDR and windowed-game optimizations.
These controls are separate from NVIDIA Control Panel, AMD Software, and Intel Graphics Command Center. Use those manufacturer tools for driver-specific 3D profiles and overrides.
Open the Graphics settings page
Method 1: Use Windows Settings
- Press Windows + I to open Settings. You can also right-click the Start button and select Settings.
- Select System in the left-hand menu.
- Select Display.
- Scroll down and select Graphics under Related settings.
The current Windows 11 path is Settings > System > Display > Graphics. Older guides may refer to a Graphics settings page under Gaming; that is not the current path in the Settings app.
Method 2: Use desktop context menu
- Right-click an empty area of the desktop.
- Select Display settings.
- Scroll down to Related settings.
- Select Graphics.
The desktop menu opens Display settings, not the Graphics page directly.

ms-settings:display-advancedgraphics
This Windows Settings URI opens the Graphics page directly.

Choose a GPU for an app or game
The Graphics page can assign a Windows graphics preference to a particular application. This is most useful on a laptop or desktop with integrated graphics and a separate NVIDIA or AMD GPU.
- Open Settings > System > Display > Graphics.
- Find the app under Custom options for apps. If it is not listed, use the app-selection menu to add it.
- For a listed app, select it and choose Options.
- Select one of the available preferences:
| Option | Typical use |
|---|---|
| Let Windows decide | Allows Windows to choose the GPU. |
| Power saving | Normally favors integrated graphics and lower power use. |
| High performance | Normally favors the discrete or more powerful GPU. |
- Select Save.
- Close and restart the app or game.
For a classic desktop program, Windows may require the program’s actual executable file, such as example.exe, rather than a desktop shortcut. If the program is not listed, choose the desktop-app option and browse to its executable.
These choices are per-app preferences. Selecting High performance for one game does not force every application to use that GPU, and some applications or driver utilities can apply their own GPU-selection rules.
Change graphics options for a game
Depending on the hardware and Windows version, the Graphics page may include options such as:

Enable or disable the relevant option on the Graphics page, then restart the affected game if Windows requests it or if the change does not appear immediately. A Windows graphics preference does not replace the graphics settings inside the game itself. Resolution, texture quality, shadows, anti-aliasing, and frame-rate limits are usually changed from the game’s own video or graphics menu.
Open Graphics Default Settings directly
Windows has a separate URI for the default graphics options page. Press Windows + R, enter:
ms-settings:display-advancedgraphics-default
Press Enter to open Graphics Default Settings. This is different from the main per-app Graphics page.
What to do if Graphics is missing
The Graphics page is not guaranteed to appear on every Windows 11 installation. Microsoft makes the page available when the device supports the relevant advanced graphics options. It may be absent on some limited hardware, virtual machines, or systems with restricted graphics capabilities.

Try these checks:
- Install pending Windows updates and restart the PC.
- Open Device Manager, expand Display adapters, and check whether Windows detects the graphics hardware.
- Install the correct graphics driver from the PC, GPU, or graphics-chip manufacturer.
- Try the direct URI
ms-settings:display-advancedgraphics.
If the URI opens Settings home instead of Graphics, the page may be hidden by an organization policy. Windows administrators can restrict Settings pages with the Settings Page Visibility policy; a blocked page cannot be opened simply by using its direct URI.
Why the GPU choices may be unavailable
Power saving and High performance are primarily useful when Windows detects more than one graphics processor. On a single-GPU system, Windows may show the Graphics page but omit a meaningful GPU-selection list.
On a desktop with multiple adapters, confirm that both are detected under Device Manager > Display adapters. On a laptop, also check the manufacturer’s power or hybrid-graphics utility, since it may control how the integrated and discrete GPUs operate.

| Windows Graphics page | GPU manufacturer software |
|---|---|
| Per-app GPU preference | Driver-level application profiles |
| Optimizations for supported windowed games | Vendor-specific 3D settings and overrides |

Use NVIDIA Control Panel, AMD Software, or Intel Graphics Command Center when you need settings that Windows does not expose. The exact controls depend on the installed GPU and driver.

Common mistakes
- Using the old Gaming path: open System > Display > Graphics instead.
- Expecting the desktop menu to contain Graphics settings: choose Display settings, then select Graphics under Related settings.
- Adding a shortcut instead of the program: add the application’s executable when Windows asks you to browse for a desktop app.
- Changing a preference while the game is running: save the setting and restart the game so it can detect the change.
- Expecting Windows to expose every GPU setting: use the manufacturer’s control panel for driver-specific features.
FAQ
How do I change graphics settings in Windows 11?
Open Settings > System > Display > Graphics. Select an app, choose Options, select Let Windows decide, Power saving, or High performance, and select Save.
What is the shortcut command for Windows 11 Graphics settings?
Press Windows + R and run ms-settings:display-advancedgraphics.
Why can’t I see Graphics in Windows 11 Settings?
The page may be unavailable because the hardware does not support the relevant advanced graphics features, a graphics driver is missing, or an organization policy has hidden the page.
How do I make a game use my dedicated GPU?
Go to Settings > System > Display > Graphics, add or select the game executable, choose Options, select High performance, choose Save, and restart the game.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDoes Windows Graphics settings replace NVIDIA Control Panel or AMD Software?
No. Windows controls supported Windows graphics features and per-app GPU preferences. NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel applications still provide many driver-level graphics controls.
The Bottom Line
For current Windows 11 versions, use Settings > System > Display > Graphics. Add the app’s executable, select its GPU preference, save the change, and restart the app. If you need driver-level 3D controls, open your GPU manufacturer’s control panel instead.
