When Aura Sync stops working, the cause is usually one of four things: the device is not compatible, Armoury Crate’s required component is missing, the hardware connection is incomplete, or an Armoury Crate service installation is damaged. Work through the checks below in order. They avoid the risky manual service and registry cleanup often recommended by outdated guides.
Aura Sync is built into Armoury Crate. You normally do not need a separate modern “Aura Sync” download.
1. Confirm that the device supports Aura Sync
Not every ASUS RGB product that works with Armoury Crate can join an Aura Sync group. A device may appear under Device and still be absent from Playground > Aura Sync.
Check the exact model on ASUS’s Armoury Crate compatible-device list and, for advanced lighting, the Aura Creator compatible-device list. Product families are not enough; support can differ between two similar keyboard, monitor, motherboard, or mouse models.

2. Install the missing Playground component
In current Armoury Crate versions, Aura Sync is accessed through Playground. If Playground is missing, install it from Armoury Crate rather than downloading random Aura utilities.
- Open ARMOURY CRATE from Windows Search.
- Open Settings.
- Select Feature Library.
- Find Playground and install it.
- Restart Armoury Crate. If the component still does not appear, restart Windows.
- Open Playground > Aura Sync > Sync Devices and check the device list again.
If Feature Library itself is unavailable or installation repeatedly fails, skip to the clean-reinstallation section below.
3. Enable synchronization in the correct menu
Changing lighting under an individual device does not synchronize the rest of the computer. Use the Aura Sync controls instead:
- Open Playground.
- Choose Aura Sync.
- Open Sync Devices.
- Select every compatible device that should participate.
- Open Aura Effects.
- Choose an effect such as Static, Breathing, Rainbow, or Color Cycle.
Use Device > [your device] > Lighting only when you want that product to have an independent effect. Some devices expose lighting controls there but cannot be added to an Aura Sync group.

4. Check the physical connection
Reconnect the affected hardware before reinstalling anything. Connect USB peripherals directly to the computer, not through an unpowered hub, monitor, or dock. Try a different USB port and, where possible, a different cable.

ASUS monitors
For a supported ASUS monitor, HDMI or DisplayPort alone may not be enough. Aura Sync usually requires the monitor’s rear USB Type-B upstream port connected to a USB Type-A port on the computer. You must also enable Aura Sync in the monitor’s on-screen display.
- Connect the monitor’s USB Type-B upstream port to the PC.
- Open the monitor OSD.
- Enable its Aura Sync setting.
- Restart Armoury Crate and check Playground > Aura Sync > Sync Devices.
A video cable carries the image; it does not normally provide the USB data path Armoury Crate needs to control the monitor’s lighting.
5. Close competing RGB applications
Two lighting applications trying to control the same device can produce frozen colors, missing devices, or settings that revert immediately. Temporarily close or uninstall other RGB utilities, including motherboard, peripheral, or vendor-specific lighting software. Also check their settings for options that start the program with Windows.

If the lighting works, leave only one application responsible for the affected device.
6. Update Armoury Crate, firmware, and device drivers
- Open Armoury Crate.
- Go to Settings > Update Center.
- Click Check for Updates.
- Install updates for Armoury Crate, device firmware, drivers, and any listed configuration components.
- Restart Windows when prompted.
On a laptop, connect the AC adapter before applying firmware or BIOS-related updates. Some newer ASUS features require both the Armoury Crate UWP application and AC Config to be updated through Update Center, as well as the device BIOS.

If Armoury Crate reports that everything is current but one device remains invisible, check that product’s ASUS support page for a separate firmware or driver package.
7. Restart the Armoury Crate software before reinstalling it
A simple restart can restore a device after a service temporarily stops responding:

- Restart Windows rather than merely signing out.
- Reconnect the RGB device after Windows loads.
- Open Armoury Crate and check the device again.
For a persistent Service error, ASUS recommends restarting first and then reinstalling Armoury Crate from its current support package. Do not assume that manually deleting a Windows service is the correct fix.
8. Perform a clean Armoury Crate reinstall
Uninstalling only the visible Armoury Crate application can leave services and components behind. Use ASUS’s official Armoury Crate download page.
- Download Armoury Crate Uninstall Tool.
- Extract the ZIP file.
- Run Armoury Crate Uninstall Tool.exe.
- Follow the removal prompts and restart Windows.
- Download Armoury Crate & Aura Creator Installer from the same ASUS page.
- Extract its ZIP file.
- Run the executable included in the package. Depending on the package revision, it may be named ArmouryCrateInstallTool.exe or ArmouryCrateInstaller.exe.
- Select Armoury Crate, Aura Creator, or both, then click Start.
- Restart Windows after installation completes.
Use a stable internet connection during the normal installation. Disable a VPN temporarily and check that antivirus or system-optimizer software is not blocking the installer. ASUS also advises against installing Armoury Crate inside a virtual platform such as an Android emulator.

If the online installer cannot download its components, use ASUS’s Armoury Crate Full Installation Package instead. It is intended for offline or restricted-network installations.
9. Collect installation logs if reinstalling fails
When the installer fails or hangs after the clean removal, use ASUS’s Armoury Crate Lite Log Tool:
- Download and extract the tool from ASUS support.
- Run LogToolLite.exe.
- Enable Enable Log.
- Run the Armoury Crate installer again to reproduce the failure.
- Return to the log tool and click Package Log.
- Wait for the Done notification.
- Send the generated
LogToolLiteLog_...file to ASUS Support.
This utility collects installation-failure data. It is not a general Aura Sync repair tool.

Once the device is detected, use a simple effect before testing advanced configurations:
- Open Playground > Aura Sync > Sync Devices.
- Select only the affected device.
- Open Aura Effects.
- Choose Static.
- Pick a bright color and apply it.
If Static works but Music, Adaptive Color, or an Aura Creator layout does not, the hardware connection is probably fine. The problem is more likely effect support or an unsupported advanced-lighting configuration. Aura Creator has a separate compatibility list even when a product supports basic Aura Sync.

ROG Ally users: install the correct edition
ROG Ally systems use Armoury Crate SE Installer, not the standard desktop Armoury Crate package. Download the SE package from ASUS support and reinstall it if the Ally’s controls or lighting stop working.
What not to do
- Do not download Armoury Crate from third-party “driver” sites.
- Do not use the old
SetupROGLSLService.exeas the normal current installer. - Do not remove Aura Service or ROG Live Service manually if you intend to keep Aura Sync or Aura Creator.
- Do not assume an ASUS logo guarantees Aura Sync support.
- Do not expect a monitor’s HDMI or DisplayPort cable to replace its required USB upstream connection.
- Do not treat Xiaomi Light Strip detection as an ordinary driver failure. ASUS has discontinued Aura Sync support for Xiaomi Light Strips.
FAQ
Why does my ASUS device appear in Armoury Crate but not Aura Sync?
It may support Armoury Crate controls without supporting synchronized Aura lighting. It can also mean that the Playground component is missing. Install Playground through Settings > Feature Library, then check Playground > Aura Sync > Sync Devices.
How do I make all my ASUS RGB devices use the same effect?
Open Playground > Aura Sync > Sync Devices, select the compatible devices, then open Aura Effects and choose an effect. Device > Lighting controls one product independently and does not create a synchronized group.
Why is my ASUS monitor missing from Aura Sync?
Connect the monitor’s rear USB Type-B upstream port to the computer’s USB Type-A port, enable Aura Sync in the monitor’s OSD, restart Armoury Crate, and check Sync Devices again. A video cable alone may not provide the required USB control connection.

If normal restarts and updates do not fix the problem, use ASUS’s Armoury Crate Uninstall Tool, restart Windows, and then install the current package from ASUS. Removing only the visible application may leave damaged services behind.
Can I use Aura Creator with every Aura Sync device?
No. Aura Creator has its own supported-device list. A device can support basic Aura Sync effects without supporting Aura Creator’s advanced lighting layouts.
Why did my Xiaomi Light Strip stop working in Aura Sync?
ASUS has discontinued Aura Sync support for Xiaomi Light Strips because the manufacturer no longer maintains the required lighting-effect components. Reinstalling Armoury Crate will not restore official support.

For monitors, verify the USB upstream cable and OSD setting.
