Microsoft Edge does not use one switch for every kind of autofill. Address details, passwords, payment cards, signup forms, AI suggestions, and Express Checkout have separate controls.
That means the right setting depends on what you want Edge to fill—or which popup you want to stop. The steps below cover the main autofill features in current desktop versions of Edge. Some releases use slightly different labels, such as Save and autofill personal info, Save and autofill addresses, or Save and fill basic info.
Enable or disable address autofill
Address autofill controls information such as your name, address, phone number, and email address.

- Select the Settings and more (…) button in the upper-right corner.
- Select Settings.
- Open Passwords and autofill.
- Select Addresses and more or Personal info.
- Turn Save and autofill addresses or Save and autofill personal info on or off.
On some Edge installations, the same area appears under Settings → Profiles → Personal info. If you see Save and fill basic info, use that switch for ordinary form information.

Turning this setting off stops address and personal-information suggestions. It does not automatically disable saved passwords or payment-card suggestions.
Enable or disable password autofill
Password saving and password filling are separate settings. Disable both if you want Edge neither to ask about passwords nor fill passwords that are already saved.
Stop Edge asking to save passwords
- Go to Settings and more (…) → Settings.
- Select Passwords and autofill.
- Open Microsoft Password Manager.
- Turn off Ask to save passwords.
Stop Edge filling saved passwords and passkeys
- Remain in Settings → Passwords and autofill → Microsoft Password Manager.
- Select More settings.
- Turn off Autofill passwords and passkeys.
Turning off Ask to save passwords does not remove existing passwords and does not necessarily stop Edge from filling them. Turn off Autofill passwords and passkeys as well if that is the goal.
Enable or disable payment-card autofill
Payment autofill is managed separately from address autofill.
- Open Edge and go directly to
edge://settings/payments. - Review the saved payment methods.
- Use the available payment-method or autofill switch to enable or disable payment suggestions and filling.
Another direct page used by Edge is edge://settings/autofill/paymentMethods. Depending on the Edge version and profile, it may redirect to the payment settings page.

To remove a saved card, delete it from the payment-method list. Removing the card stops it appearing in autofill suggestions, but it is a different action from merely turning a setting off.
Disable AI-powered autofill suggestions
Edge also has a separate feature for AI-powered suggestions. This setting does not replace the main personal-information autofill control.
- Select Settings and more (…) → Settings.
- Open Passwords and autofill.
- Select Personal info.
- Turn AI-powered autofill suggestions on or off.
Disabling this option alone does not disable normal address, password, or payment autofill.
Stop Edge filling account-signup forms
Edge has a separate feature that can automatically fill information while you create an online account.
- Open Settings and more (…) → Settings.
- Select Profiles.
- Open Personal info.
- Turn off Automatically fill my info on sign up forms.
This feature depends on Save and fill basic info being enabled and on Edge having enough saved information for the form. Microsoft documents it as requiring at least 50% of the required form details to be saved.

Disable Express Checkout and shopping suggestions
If the popup is related to shopping, cards, shipping information, Buy Now Pay Later, or Express Checkout, changing address autofill alone may not remove it.

- Turn off Save time and money with Shopping in Microsoft Edge.
Express Checkout can also disappear when Save and fill basic info or Save and fill payment methods is disabled. Those settings provide information the shopping feature needs.
Delete existing autofill information
Turning off autofill prevents future suggestions, but it does not necessarily delete information already stored in the profile. To remove stored form data:
- Select Settings and more (…) → Settings.
- Open Privacy, search, and services.
- Under Clear browsing data, select Choose what to clear.
- Select Autofill form data (includes forms and cards).
- Choose the appropriate time range if Edge displays that option.
- Select Clear now.
Use this carefully: clearing autofill form data can remove stored addresses and cards. It is separate from password data, so saved passwords may remain unless you clear them through Microsoft Password Manager.
If autofill synchronization is enabled, deleting synced autofill data on one signed-in device can remove it from other Edge devices using the same account. To stop synchronizing personal autofill information, go to Settings → Profiles → Sync and turn off Personal info.

Use Guest or InPrivate mode

Guest mode is therefore closer to a temporary no-autofill session. InPrivate is not a complete replacement for disabling autofill because Edge can still offer information already saved in the profile.
Why an autofill popup may still appear
- Only address autofill was disabled: password or card autofill may still be active.
- Password prompts remain: Ask to save passwords is still enabled, even if password filling was disabled.
- The popup is from Express Checkout: disable shopping in
edge://settings/privacy. - The popup is on a signup page: turn off Automatically fill my info on sign up forms.
- Saved data is still present: clear Autofill form data (includes forms and cards).
- A work or school device controls the setting: an administrator may be enforcing Edge policies.
Control autofill with Group Policy on managed Windows PCs
Administrators can control address and payment autofill through Microsoft Edge policies. This is useful when a setting is locked or must be applied to multiple computers.

AutofillCreditCardEnabled = 0Do not edit the registry on a work computer unless your organization instructs you to do so. A policy can override the controls visible in Edge, and policy changes may require restarting Edge or waiting for policy refresh.

Is there one master autofill switch in Microsoft Edge?
No. Edge separates personal information, passwords and passkeys, payment methods, AI suggestions, signup-form filling, and shopping features. Disable the individual controls that match the popup you want to stop.

Will disabling address autofill stop password and card autofill?
No. Address autofill is separate from password and payment autofill. Disable those features separately if you want to stop all of them.
Does turning off autofill delete my saved information?
Not necessarily. Disable the relevant autofill setting first, then use Settings → Privacy, search, and services → Clear browsing data → Choose what to clear → Autofill form data (includes forms and cards) → Clear now to remove stored form data.
Why does Edge still suggest a password after I turned off password saving?
Ask to save passwords controls new save prompts. To stop Edge filling passwords that are already saved, also disable Autofill passwords and passkeys under Microsoft Password Manager → More settings.

Does InPrivate browsing disable autofill?
No. InPrivate does not add new autofill entries, but Edge may still offer existing entries. Guest mode does not provide autofill.
