There is no verified native MX Player installer for Windows or macOS. MX Player’s official download page currently describes its Video Player as Android-only and does not offer a Windows .exe, Mac .dmg, Microsoft Store app, or native macOS application.
You can still use the Android version on a Windows PC through an emulator such as BlueStacks 5. On an Apple Silicon Mac, BlueStacks Air is the current emulator option, although BlueStacks’ Mac documentation is focused on games and does not provide the same MX Player installation workflow documented for Windows. The safest way to install MX Player is through Google Play inside the emulator—not from a random “MX Player for PC” setup file.
What you can actually download
“MX Player for PC” can refer to several different things. The official Android app is MX Player, with the Google Play package name com.mxtech.videoplayer.ad. It is the local video and music player. A separate app, MX Player Online: OTT & Videos, uses the package name com.mxtech.videoplayer.online and focuses on streaming.
Both Android listings identify Amazon Mobile LLC as the publisher. Neither listing is a Windows or macOS application. The standard local-player listing currently shows ads and in-app purchases, with an update date of July 2, 2026.

Use the official local-player listing or the official MX Player Online listing. The official MX Player download page does not list a desktop installer.
How to run MX Player on Windows
The practical Windows method is to run the Android app inside an Android emulator. BlueStacks 5 is one documented option. This creates an Android environment on the PC; it does not convert MX Player into a native Windows program.
Install MX Player through Google Play
- Download BlueStacks 5 from the official BlueStacks website.
- Run the BlueStacks installer.
- Click “Agree and Install.”
- Open BlueStacks 5 after installation.
- On the home screen, click “System apps.”
- Click “Play Store.”
- Click “Sign in” and log in with a Google account.
- Search Google Play for MX Player.
- Choose the listing published by Amazon Mobile LLC. For local playback, verify that the package is
com.mxtech.videoplayer.ad. - Click “Install.”
Once installation finishes, the MX Player icon appears on the BlueStacks home screen. Launch it from there and grant only the storage or media permissions needed to find your videos and subtitle files.

Install an APK locally in BlueStacks
BlueStacks 5 also supports local Android package installation. Use this only when you have a legitimate reason not to use Google Play:
- Open BlueStacks 5.
- Click “Install APK” on the side toolbar.
- Select the
.apkor.xapkfile. - Click “Open.”
Google Play is the safer route. APKs from unofficial download sites may be modified, bundled with malware, or repackaged under a misleading name. An APK labelled “MX Player” is not automatically authentic; check the publisher and package identity rather than relying on the filename.
Using MX Player on a Mac
Apple Silicon Macs
BlueStacks’ current Mac product is BlueStacks Air, whose published requirements target Apple Silicon Macs from M1 through M4. The minimum RAM requirement is 8 GB, while BlueStacks recommends 16 GB.

For a compatible Mac, the documented installation sequence is:
- Download BlueStacks Air from the official BlueStacks website.
- Double-click the downloaded
.pkgfile. - Click “Continue.”
- Follow the on-screen installation instructions.
The BlueStacks Air release notes list version 5.21.780.7504, released July 7, 2026.
There is an important qualification: BlueStacks’ current Mac documentation describes BlueStacks Air primarily as a gaming product and explains installing games through its “Store” and “Install” buttons. It does not document a general MX Player installation procedure equivalent to the Windows BlueStacks 5 instructions. Therefore, BlueStacks Air should be treated as a possible Android-environment option—not as an officially supported Mac version of MX Player.
Intel Macs
Intel Macs are outside the published BlueStacks Air requirements, which specify Apple Silicon M1–M4 chips. MX Player’s official site does not provide a native Intel-Mac application either. Consequently, there is currently no verified native MX Player solution for Intel macOS.

Installing the local Android MX Player app in an emulator can give you access to local-player features for files available inside the Android environment. It does not automatically unlock MX Player’s online catalog.
The official Video Player page lists support for:
- MP4, MKV, AVI, FLV, MOV, and WebM video
- Hardware acceleration
- SSA, ASS, SRT, and VobSub subtitles
- Picture-in-picture playback
- Network streaming
- Local-network playback
MX Player says this Video Player is available only on Android devices. In an emulator, the Android app is operating inside the virtual Android device—not as a native Windows or Mac media player.
Can you watch MX Player online in a desktop browser?
The MX Player website can open in a Windows or Mac browser, but that does not install a desktop application. MX Player’s official help center currently says its online streaming services are available only to users in India. Individual titles may also be blocked by digital-rights restrictions.
As a result, users outside India may see “Content not available in your region” or may be unable to play particular titles. Availability can differ between the website, Android app, Android TV, and Fire TV because licensing rights may vary by device and platform.

Do not confuse a browser tab showing the MX Player website with a native PC version. The former is web access; the latter is not currently offered on the official download page.
Common problems and fixes
MX Player does not appear in Google Play
Possible reasons include an incompatible Android version or device profile in the emulator, regional availability, an incomplete Google account sync, or searching for the wrong app.
Google Play can hide an app or show a compatibility error when the app requires a different Android version. BlueStacks recommends trying the BlueStacks Store, which may select a more suitable Android version automatically. Make sure you are looking for the listing published by Amazon Mobile LLC rather than a similarly named third-party app.
An APK reports that it is incompatible
An APK may require a different Android version from the active BlueStacks instance. BlueStacks documents this workaround for BlueStacks 5:
- Open BlueStacks 5.
- Click “Multi-instance Manager” on the side toolbar.
- Click “Instance.”
- Select “Fresh instance.”
- Choose “Nougat 64-bit,” “Pie 64-bit,” “Android 11,” or “Android 13 (Beta).”
- Click “Next.”
This is an emulator compatibility adjustment, not a special MX Player PC requirement. If Google Play offers the app normally, prefer that installation over sideloading.
The video plays but has no sound
AC3, E-AC3, and DTS audio are common trouble areas. MX Player says some codecs are excluded because of licensing issues. For crashes involving AC3 or DTS audio, try this setting path:
Settings > Decoder > HW+ audio on SW video
Disable “HW+ audio on SW video” and retry the file. You can also switch between hardware and software decoding when a video does not play correctly.
The audio codec is unsupported
MX Player’s support documentation says a custom codec can sometimes restore playback. The documented path is:

Settings > Decoder > Custom codec
Use only a codec package built or obtained in the format MX Player requires. Codec files intended for another player are not interchangeable.
A supposed “PC codec” does not work
Installing a Windows codec pack will not make the Android MX Player app run natively on Windows or Mac. MX Player’s own support documentation states that there is no way to install a PC codec for MX Player because the Android application is not compatible with codecs built for other operating systems.
MX Player requests broad storage access
On Android 11 and later, the app may request “All Files Access” or “Allow access to manage all files.” MX Player says this permission helps it discover media and subtitle files across device storage. Without suitable access, local videos or subtitles may not appear in the library.
In an emulator, also check where the video was copied. A file stored only in a Windows folder may not automatically be visible inside Android; it may need to be imported or shared into the emulator’s media storage.

Downloaded online videos are missing
Not every online title supports downloading. MX Player says download availability depends on digital rights, and downloaded online content is kept in the app’s internal storage and accessed through “My Downloads.”
There is also a recent account change to consider. MX Player says users who authenticated through Google, Facebook, Apple, Truecaller, or another social login were automatically logged out on July 1, 2026. Those users may lose access to previously downloaded MX Player content and may need to download it again after signing in.

In particular, avoid executable files advertised as MX Player for Windows.exe or MX Player PC Setup.exe. A file with that name is not evidence of an official release and could expose your computer to unwanted software.

Is there an official MX Player download for Windows?

Is MX Player available for Mac?

If your goal is simply to play local files on a computer, a native desktop media player may be more straightforward. If you specifically need MX Player’s Android features, use the emulator route and obtain the app from Google Play whenever possible.
