Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Before running a 24/7 DJ mix stream on YouTube, confirm that you have rights for both the sound recordings and the underlying compositions, for the territories where the stream will be available. Owning or buying a track, calling it royalty-free, or having permission from the DJ who made the mix does not by itself establish that right. Then connect an encoder through YouTube Studio, test the stream, and monitor it: YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party content and may interrupt or end a stream when it finds a match.
What rights does a DJ livestream need?
A DJ mix can involve rights in the sound recording (the master) and in the underlying musical composition. YouTube says master-use rights are usually held by the record label that recorded a song, while public-performance rights for compositions are frequently controlled by performing-rights organizations. Rights and rights managers can differ by territory.
YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the provider to have the rights needed for worldwide exploitation of live content, including music licensing rights from artists, labels, publishers and other royalty participants. The terms also require compliance with applicable licensing and regulatory requirements in the territory. This describes YouTube’s stated allocation of responsibility; it is not a complete summary of copyright law in every country.
Inventory the actual recordings and compositions in your mix, identify who can authorize the intended live and archived uses, and confirm the territories covered. The specific route depends on the repertoire and territories. A public-performance license alone should not be assumed to clear every right needed for a DJ mix. This guide is general information, not individualized legal advice.

How YouTube handles music in live streams
YouTube scans all live streams for matches to third-party content. If it identifies such content, it may replace the stream with a placeholder image and warn the streamer to stop using it. If the content remains, YouTube may temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream. A copyright strike can also terminate a live stream; claims and strikes are not the same thing.
Having a license does not guarantee uninterrupted playback. YouTube says creators using licensed third-party content should ask the rights owner to add their channel to its Content ID allowlist. Without allowlisting, a stream may still be interrupted, including when it is restricted to territories where the creator has rights. Allowlisting is a platform step, not a replacement for obtaining permission.

YouTube says Content ID claims on live content are made after the stream ends if the creator chooses to archive it. Consider rights and platform treatment of the replay as well as the live broadcast before deciding whether to archive.
Does Creator Music clear a live DJ mix?
No. YouTube Help says, “Currently, Creator Music doesn’t support licensing for live content.” A track option intended for an ordinary YouTube video should not be treated as permission to use that track in a live mix. Check YouTube’s current Creator Music FAQ before publication because platform terms can change.

Check permissions before going live
- List the material. Identify every recording and composition in the mix, including samples and any other third-party audio or visuals.
- Confirm the rights and territories. Check that permission covers the intended live use, territories, and any replay or archive. Follow the applicable license terms; purchase, attribution, “free,” or “royalty-free” labels do not establish YouTube clearance on their own.
- Arrange allowlisting where needed. For licensed third-party material, ask the rights owner about adding your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Keep the actual license as well.
- Test the planned material and workflow. Check representative content and your stream setup before relying on an unattended continuous broadcast.
YouTube recommends its Audio Library as an option, but you still need to follow the applicable terms for each track. YouTube also says Content ID can flag music labelled free and cannot tell whether you bought rights elsewhere; the governing license determines where and how the music may be used.
Set up a 24/7 stream with YouTube Studio
- Enable live streaming. Verify that your channel can livestream, then create or schedule a broadcast in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. YouTube says first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours.
- Choose an encoder. YouTube supports encoder software and standalone hardware. Connect it using the server URL and stream key provided in YouTube Studio. Treat the stream key like a password and do not share it.
- Route audio and visuals. Send your cleared DJ mix and any visuals into the encoder. A mixer, microphone, or camera may be useful depending on your audio path and production, but none is required for every setup. Equipment does not grant music rights.
- Set and test stream quality. Choose resolution, frame rate, and bitrate that your encoder and upload connection can sustain. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the planned show, then watching stream health and messages during the broadcast.
- Plan monitoring and archiving. Monitor the broadcast for health messages and interruptions, and decide whether to archive based on the rights for the replay. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; recheck current platform behavior before relying on archive limits for a continuous operation.
Encoder settings and equipment
YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS, H.264, H.265 or AV1, up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), a recommended two-second keyframe interval (not over four seconds), and AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP/RTMPS. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted delivery to Google’s servers. Use its current settings table for the resolution and codec you choose rather than applying one bitrate to every setup.

Can I use Creator Music on my live streams?
YouTube Help says Creator Music currently does not support licensing for live content. Do not treat a Creator Music option for an ordinary video as clearance for a live DJ mix.

Can I stream a DJ’s mix if they give me permission?
The DJ’s permission may cover their own contribution, but it does not necessarily cover the sound recordings and compositions in the mix. Confirm authorization for the actual tracks and intended live use.
Can a licensed song still interrupt my livestream?
Yes. YouTube says licensed third-party content may still trigger interruption if the rights owner has not added your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Ask the rights owner about allowlisting, and retain the applicable permission.
Does buying a track or using royalty-free music clear it for YouTube live?
Not automatically. Check the license terms for live streaming, territories, and any archived replay. YouTube says Content ID may flag music labelled free and cannot determine whether a user bought rights elsewhere.
Do I need a mixer for a 24/7 DJ livestream?
Not necessarily. A mixer can be useful in some audio setups, and YouTube lists it among possible professional equipment. Choose equipment based on how you route and control audio; it does not provide music rights.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
How should I choose an encoder bitrate?
Use YouTube’s current settings table for your resolution and codec, then test with a bitrate your encoder and upload connection can sustain. Monitor stream health during a representative test rather than assuming a recommended ingestion value will work on every connection.
