What Do YouTube Channel Members Get?

A public 24/7 stream is not automatically a membership benefit. A creator can keep the video public while restricting its live chat to members, or offer a separate members-only livestream that restricts viewing. Describe the difference plainly so viewers know what their payment provides.
YouTube advises creators to consider whether viewers value closeness, exclusivity, recognition, or simply supporting the channel. Membership Levels, Prices, and Creator Share
YouTube allows creators to create up to six membership levels, with one to five perks per level. Higher-priced levels include the perks attached to lower-priced levels. The channel chooses its levels and benefits; they are not automatically determined by the stream running continuously.

How to Design Perks for a 24/7 Stream
- Choose a clear benefit. Decide whether the offer is about recognition, interaction, exclusive viewing, or distinct content—not just access to a public stream.
- Match the perk to the level. List one to five perks for each level, keeping in mind that higher levels include lower-level perks.
- Be specific. Describe what members can actually use, such as a badge, emoji, members-only chat, or a members-only broadcast.
- Check that you can deliver it. YouTube says creators are responsible for delivering advertised perks. Avoid promises of access, archives, or personal interaction you cannot reliably provide, and follow YouTube’s membership rules.
YouTube’s guidance encourages lightweight basic perks and reserving more time-consuming work for premium levels. A visible badge or chat perk may require less ongoing work than a regular members-only video or live interaction. Choose a mix that fits your capacity.
Public Streams, Members-Only Chat, and Members-Only Livestreams
Members-only chat and members-only viewing are different offers. With members-only chat on a public stream, everyone can watch, but only eligible members can post in chat. A members-only livestream restricts viewing itself and can be limited to all paid members or a qualifying level.

YouTube supports transitions from public to members-only access, but its documented transition feature is limited to desktop streams that are not vertical. Viewers see a notification and countdown before access changes. Under the documented conditions, the public and members-only portions are archived as separate videos.
YouTube says live chat is available on YouTube watch pages, not in embedded players. If chat access is part of the membership offer, account for this when viewers watch an embedded stream.
Archive Limits for Continuous Streams
YouTube says it can automatically archive streams shorter than 12 hours. A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. This does not mean the stream must stop at 12 hours, but creators should not promise a complete replay of an exceptionally long broadcast. Keep a local recording if you need a complete archive.
Membership Policies and Expectations
YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to livestreams. The platform expects monetized content to be original and authentic; mass-produced, generic, repetitive, or manipulative content can conflict with those expectations. A 24/7 format alone does not establish whether a channel is eligible—assess the actual content, rights, and production against current policies.
