A 24/7 YouTube stream does not automatically earn money: your channel must be accepted into the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), and ads are not guaranteed to appear. To reduce the load on your PC, compare software encoding, an available GPU hardware encoder, and a standalone encoder, then test and monitor the setup. Make the stream original and policy-compliant, and plan how you will handle archives and qualified public watch hours.
How YouTube monetization works for live streams
YouTube lists ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and channel memberships as live-stream monetization features, subject to eligibility. For ad revenue, the channel must qualify for and be accepted into YPP. YouTube Help currently states the standard threshold as 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the preceding 12 months or 10 million qualified public Shorts views in the preceding 90 days. Other requirements apply, and YouTube reviews each channel; reaching the threshold alone does not guarantee acceptance.
When live monetization is enabled, pre-roll and display ads are automatically on. Mid-roll ads can be automatic, scheduled, or manual. YouTube recommends automatic mid-rolls, but cautions that “Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads.” Treat ad revenue as a possibility, not a predictable return from running a stream continuously.
Make the stream eligible for monetization
YouTube reviews channels for originality and policy compliance. Its inauthentic-content policy covers repetitive or mass-produced videos that offer little variation or educational or entertainment value. Its reused-content policy addresses material republished without significant original commentary, substantive changes, or added educational or entertainment value. Review can consider the channel as a whole.

A continuous format is not, by itself, proof that a channel will fail or pass review. Use material you have the rights to use, make your original contribution clear, and avoid assuming that a static or lightly altered loop will qualify. Choose an encoding setup that suits your PC
YouTube supports software encoder apps and standalone hardware encoders. It also describes NVIDIA NVENC as a hardware-based option that can encode without utilizing the CPU for the encoding work. That does not establish the total load, power use, or performance of a particular computer: the scene, resolution, frame rate, and other tasks matter too.

The available evidence does not establish a universally best option, comparative reliability, product prices, electricity costs, or measured CPU load. Choose based on your existing equipment and a test of your intended stream, rather than buying hardware on the assumption that it is necessary.
Configure and test the stream
YouTube’s published live settings recommend H.264, constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and RTMPS. Match resolution, frame rate, and bitrate to the content, your upload capacity, and the encoder; there is no reason to maximize settings by default. YouTube transcodes incoming live streams for playback at different formats.

- Choose your content and settings. Use original material you have the rights to stream. Decide on a resolution and frame rate your encoder and connection can handle.
- Set up the encoder. Choose a supported software or hardware encoder and configure it using YouTube’s recommended settings as a starting point.
- Connect to YouTube securely. Use the stream setup in YouTube Studio and keep your stream key private.
- Preview before relying on the stream. Check audio and video in the preview, then verify that the live feed is stable at the settings you chose.
- Monitor while live. YouTube advises monitoring stream audio and video. Check the feed regularly rather than assuming it will remain healthy unattended.
Plan archives and qualified watch hours
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume that an uninterrupted stream longer than 12 hours will appear as one complete VOD. YouTube also excludes unlisted or deleted streams, and livestreams not converted to VOD, from the stated qualified public watch-hour total. If your YPP strategy depends on public watch hours, understand the archive and visibility implications before choosing a continuous format.
Set realistic expectations
The available research does not establish typical views, affiliate click rates, commissions, income, electricity use, or a payback period for 24/7 streams. Results depend on the channel, audience, content, eligibility, and monetization features. Do not treat example revenue calculations or uptime alone as a forecast.

Do all looped or continuous streams fail YouTube monetization review?
The cited policy does not say that every continuous stream fails or that every loop passes. YouTube assesses originality and reused content, including whether material is repetitive or mass-produced and whether reused material has meaningful original value.
Will using a GPU encoder eliminate PC load?
