One AuditMe case study reports that a three-month Google Search Console Web Search export recorded 116,181 impressions and 9 clicks. That is about 12,909 impressions for each click, but it is a description of one site’s data—not an industry benchmark, a Google metric, or proof of why people did not click.
What the 116,181 impressions and 9 clicks measure
AuditMe reports the totals from its three-month Search Console Web Search chart export. Its overall weighted average position was 81.31, and its leading pages averaged positions in the 70s and 80s. Those are observations about this case study, not representative figures for other websites. AuditMe’s case study does not establish that the reported visibility produced meaningful human attention.
An impression is not a person reading your page
Google defines an impression according to the result type: it means a link or site content was seen, or potentially seen, in a Google service under the applicable counting rules. It does not mean a person read the page. A click is an action that takes someone from a Google service to the site. Google explains that average position is the average position value across impressions, since a link’s position can differ each time it appears. It is not a guaranteed rank for every search. Google’s definitions of impressions, position, and clicks describe these distinctions.
The ratio is a diagnostic shorthand, not a benchmark
Dividing 116,181 impressions by 9 clicks gives approximately 12,909 impressions per click. AuditMe calls this its Visibility Gap Ratio, but it is simply arithmetic for this export—not an official Google metric, ranking factor, industry standard, or prediction. It describes the scale of the gap, not its cause. AuditMe explains the ratio and its limits.

Why exposure can greatly exceed clicks
The figures show a large gap between recorded impressions and clicks, but do not determine what caused it. AuditMe lists several possibilities to investigate rather than proven explanations:
- Low average position: Many impressions may come from results far down the page.
- Query mismatch or low intent: A page may appear for searches that do not closely match what it offers, or that are not likely to prompt a visit.
- Search-result composition: Other elements on the results page may affect whether a person clicks a conventional result.
- Snippet or unfamiliarity: The title and description may not make the result compelling, or searchers may not recognize the site.
- Broad long-tail coverage: A large number of impressions across many specific queries can add up without producing many clicks.
These are hypotheses, not findings about the case study. Check the queries, pages, positions, and actual result presentation before deciding that a title or meta description is the problem.

How to investigate the gap in Search Console
- Set the scope. Open Search Console’s Performance report, choose the relevant date range, and select the search type you want to analyze. Export query, page, device, and country views when those dimensions matter. Google documents the report’s dimensions and data handling in its guide to Search Console performance data filtering and limits.
- Find high-impression, low-click combinations. Review queries and pages with substantial impressions but weak click response. Inspect average position and the search-result context before diagnosing intent or snippet issues.
- Segment before changing content. Compare device, country, query, and page where those differences could change the decision. AuditMe describes its own export as desktop-heavy with a large U.S. share; that distribution belongs to this dataset and should not be assumed for another site.
- Interpret average position over time. Because position is an aggregate across impressions, examine trends and query-level context rather than treating the average as the rank a particular searcher saw.
- Keep measurement types separate. Track Google impressions and clicks, analytics visits, conversions, and third-party AI citation observations in distinct columns. Join them only when the measurement method supports the relationship.
Search Console data can vary depending on whether it is grouped by page or property. Dimensioned rows should not automatically be added together and expected to match a chart total. Google’s performance-data guidance explains how dimensions and data processing affect reports.

What the separate AI citation count does—and does not—say
AuditMe reports 1,737 AI citation events from a separate export covering August 18 through September 13, 2026. These events are not established as unique people, site visits, clicks, signups, or revenue. The AI export and the three-month Search Console export measure different things over different windows, so their totals are not interchangeable. The case study also does not establish that AI citations caused traffic or conversions, that SEO changes caused Google performance, or that individual content changes caused ranking changes. AuditMe’s case study describes these limits.

Google AI features and Search Console clicks are not the same count as third-party citations
Google says AI Overviews and AI Mode show links to web resources; clicking an external link from those features counts as a click, subject to the usual result-type impression rules. That is different from an AI citation event logged by an outside measurement system. Google’s guidance says foundational SEO best practices apply to AI Overviews and AI Mode, with no additional requirements or special schema needed to appear in them. Performance for Google AI features is included in Search Console’s overall Web search reporting. Google Search Central’s AI features guidance explains how the features work for site owners.

Use the case study as a prompt to inspect your own data, not as a target to match. Start with the specific pages and queries behind impressions, then use position and search-result context to narrow the likely explanation. Keep each metric tied to its owner, definition, date range, and event counted: an impression is not a visit, a third-party citation is not automatically a click, and a click is not a conversion.
