If a fly is inside your TV display, don’t press, tap, pry, or open the screen. Turn the TV off, check the manufacturer’s advice for your exact model, and contact the manufacturer or a qualified repair provider if the fly is dead or stays trapped. There is no safe removal method that applies to every LED TV.
First, check whether the fly is on or inside the screen
With the TV off, look at the display from different angles. If the fly or mark is on the outer surface, follow the screen-cleaning instructions in your TV’s manual. If it appears behind the panel and moves independently of the surface, treat it as an insect inside the display assembly; wiping the screen will not remove it.
Some LCD television assemblies are not completely sealed. Hisense Japan explains that heat from the backlight must dissipate and that insects may enter spaces between the LCD panel, backlight, and diffuser layers. The construction varies by product, so this does not mean every TV has the same layout. Hisense Japan’s TV FAQ was published on May 21, 2025, and updated August 5, 2026.

What to do if the fly is moving
- Switch the TV off. Do not try to crush or push the fly through the panel.
- Find the support guidance for your exact model. Check the TV manual or the manufacturer’s support site, or contact support with the model number and a description of where the fly appears.
- Use a light only if the manufacturer’s advice for your device supports it. BenQ ZOWIE advises turning off and cooling the monitor before using a light source to attract a live insect, and warns against crushing or pressing it. This is guidance for BenQ monitors, not a proven procedure for every TV. BenQ ZOWIE’s monitor FAQ
Sony’s guidance for VAIO displays also recommends shutting the device down, moving it to a well-lit place away from excessive heat, and waiting. That advice concerns VAIO computers rather than TVs, so follow your television maker’s instructions if they differ. Sony UK’s VAIO support article is dated December 7, 2018.

What not to do
- Don’t press, tap, or squeeze the panel. Pressure may damage the display, and pressing a live insect is not a safe general removal method.
- Don’t pry open the TV or remove the panel. Internal disassembly is not a routine fix for an unknown TV model; ask the manufacturer or a qualified repair provider before considering it.
- Don’t spray insect killer, cleaner, or compressed air at the screen or into the TV. Exterior screen products do not remove an insect inside the display, and the sources do not establish these as safe ways to reach one.
If the fly is dead or won’t come out
Ask the manufacturer whether it offers cleaning or repair for your model, and confirm the likely cost and warranty treatment before authorizing service. A qualified local repair provider is another option; ask whether the work involves the display assembly and what risks or costs apply. If the fly is small and not interfering with viewing, leaving it in place avoids repair risk and expense.
Service and warranty terms depend on the maker, model, and region. For example, Hisense Japan says insect intrusion may not qualify for free repair during the warranty period, while BenQ ZOWIE describes panel cleaning through its service center outside its standard limited warranty. Sony’s VAIO guidance directs owners seeking removal of a stationary insect to paid display replacement. These examples are not TV-wide warranty rules; check the terms that apply to your particular television.

When to contact support
Contact the manufacturer before opening the TV or paying for repair if the insect is dead, remains visible, or appears to be lodged where it could affect viewing. Have the model number, purchase or warranty information, your region, and a clear description of whether the insect moves ready. Ask whether the manufacturer offers a model-specific removal procedure, whether service is available, and whether the work is covered.
