The title describes a useful workflow, but it does not identify the VS Code extension behind it. Without a name or its documentation, it is not possible to verify which chatbot sites it supports, what project files it copies, or what “apply the diffs in one click” actually does. You can still use VS Code’s documented chat-context features, or choose a native coding assistant, but treat external transfer and returned edits as separate steps that need review.
What the extension workflow would need to do
The premise combines two operations: sending project context from VS Code to an external chatbot, then bringing generated edits back into the workspace. Those are not the same as using VS Code’s own chat context tools. Because the extension is not named, its publisher, supported VS Code versions, release status, supported chatbot sites, and patch-handling behavior cannot be established here.
Before installing an extension with this premise, check its Marketplace listing and linked repository or documentation for:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Exactly which files and folders are copied, and whether ignored files, secrets, or generated files are excluded.
- Whether content is placed only on the clipboard or transmitted through the extension or its developer.
- Which chatbot websites and response formats are supported.
- Whether applying a diff opens a preview, writes files immediately, stages changes, or commits them.
- Its publisher, supported VS Code versions, and latest release information.
“One click” describes an interaction count, not whether the change is correct or safe. Without extension-specific evidence, it should not be taken as a guarantee that the tool validates a patch or protects sensitive content.

Use VS Code’s built-in chat context for its own chat workflow
VS Code documents several ways to add workspace context to its chat. You can use the context picker, drag files or folders from Explorer, Search, or editor tabs into Chat, or refer to the full codebase with #codebase. You can also add symbols, tools, terminal output, and source-control changes using context mentions. See Microsoft’s Add context to chat documentation.
This is a workflow for VS Code’s chat experience; it does not establish that an arbitrary external chatbot website can receive the same context automatically or apply edits to your workspace. If your goal is to work inside the editor, GitHub Copilot’s Marketplace listing describes a Free plan and integrated chat, edits, and agent mode. Check the current Marketplace listing for applicable access, quotas, plan terms, and feature availability. Microsoft also documents asking GitHub Copilot questions in VS Code.

Protect project data before sending it to a chatbot
Sharing context is a data-transfer decision. Microsoft’s VS Code security documentation states: “File contents, terminal output, and diagnostic information from your workspace are sent as context to language models and tools.” Read its guidance on secure AI-assisted development in VS Code before sharing workspace material.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Inspect the files and other context you intend to send. Remove secrets, credentials, private data, and unrelated content.
- Check the selected chatbot provider’s current privacy terms separately. The fact that a service has a free tier does not establish its data-retention or model-training policy.
- Open unfamiliar projects in Restricted Mode and use Workspace Trust guidance. Do not assume a third-party extension inherits every restriction that applies to VS Code’s built-in tools.
Review returned diffs before accepting them
A patch can touch unexpected files, omit necessary changes, or introduce unrelated edits. Inspect the file list and the actual diff before allowing changes to stand. Microsoft’s review and revert agent changes documentation describes diff-based review and controls for keeping or undoing pending edits. Automatic acceptance is not a substitute for checking the result before committing, merging, or opening a pull request.
