Samsung Device Care is a built-in Galaxy settings feature for checking device status and managing battery, storage, memory, and security. Open Settings > Device care to find the available controls. What appears—and where it appears—can vary by model, software version, carrier, and region.
What Samsung Device Care does
Device Care brings together status information and tools for common maintenance tasks on Galaxy phones and tablets. Samsung describes its Optimize now feature as checking for issues such as apps using excessive battery, items that can be cleared from memory, unnecessary files, malware, and background apps. It is a built-in management tool, not a guarantee of a specific speed or battery-life improvement. Samsung’s US overview of Device Care and diagnostics and its guide to keeping a Galaxy device from slowing down describe the available functions.
Samsung says Optimize now may not appear if the phone is assessed to be in “Great condition.” If you do not see a control mentioned below, the feature may differ on your device or software version.
How to use the main Device Care controls
- Open Device Care: Go to Settings > Device care. Labels can differ; some versions may place related battery controls under Settings > Battery.
- Review the overview: Check the status summaries for battery, storage, and memory, then choose the category that matches what you want to address.
- Run Optimize now, if available: Select it for Samsung’s bundled optimization checks and actions. Review any prompts shown on your phone.
- Inspect storage: Open Storage to see used and available space. Choose the files or other items you want to remove; storage cleanup requires your selection.
- Free memory: Open Memory > Clean now. This stops background apps to free memory; it is separate from deleting files in Storage.
- Check security: If the option is present, open App protection > Scan phone to run a security scan.
Check battery use and charging protection
Open Settings > Device care > Battery, or look under Settings > Battery, to review the battery information and options available on your device. The exact screens and controls depend on the model and software.

Samsung UK says that from One UI 7.0, Maximum mode can offer selectable charging limits of 80%, 85%, 90%, or 95%. These are charging-limit choices, not battery-longevity statistics. If you do not see them, check the settings on your Galaxy device or consult Samsung support for your region. Samsung UK’s battery-protection guidance documents the modes and navigation.
Run diagnostics when something seems wrong
On supported devices, open Settings > Device care > Diagnostics > Phone diagnostics. Choose an individual test or Test all. Samsung says the first use of diagnostics starts a full scan automatically. Device Care diagnostics require Android 12 or later according to Samsung US; test availability can vary by device.

If you cannot find Device Care diagnostics, Samsung Members is another route to device diagnostics. The available tests depend on the Galaxy device. Samsung’s diagnostics instructions cover both entry points.

Memory > Clean now stops background apps; it does not remove your personal files. If you need storage space, review Storage and select items for deletion instead.

RAM Plus is a separate setting on supported models. Samsung US says it uses some phone storage to provide up to 8 GB of virtual memory. That stated maximum is Samsung’s figure and should not be taken to mean that every Galaxy device supports an 8 GB option. Samsung’s Device Care guide describes RAM Plus and notes that available features can differ by device and software.

Samsung notes that Device Care features and paths can vary by model, software version, carrier, and region. Try searching Settings for terms such as “Device care,” “Battery,” or “Diagnostics,” and check your device’s software version if instructions do not match your screen. A missing control does not necessarily mean the phone needs repair; some options are limited to certain devices or releases.
