An AI agent can make an answer from the Raku Knowledge Base checkable by giving you three things: the page it found, the heading that contains the evidence, and the passage that supports its claim. The documented MCP tools help locate and retrieve pages, but the available documentation does not establish passage IDs, line-number citations, or complete coverage of every page on the live site.
What the Raku Knowledge Base MCP tools return
The documented service exposes three tools. Search helps you find a page; page retrieval lets you inspect its text; and the sections tool reports top-level sections and page counts for the index the server has loaded. The official MCP connection guide describes the tools and their outputs.
raku_kb_searchaccepts a query and limit. Results include a page URL, title, section, and snippet.raku_kb_pageaccepts a URL or path and returns the page text.raku_kb_sectionsreturns top-level sections and their page counts. Those counts reflect the index the server actually reads.
These outputs provide a useful evidence trail, but a search result is not itself proof that a particular claim is correct. Check the returned page and confirm that the text supports the claim being made.

How to verify a page, section, and passage
- Search for the question or a distinctive phrase. Keep the result’s URL and snippet so you can locate the candidate page again.
- Retrieve the page. Pass its URL or path to
raku_kb_pageand inspect the returned text. - Find the actual heading above the relevant text. Do not assume the search result’s section label identifies the precise heading. The index is described as a flat record of URL, title, top-level section, and text; its section field is not a complete heading path.
- Check the passage against the answer’s claim. Ask the agent to quote the supporting words or identify them accurately, then compare them with the page. The documented service does not establish line-number references or passage-level IDs.
- Consider the collection and its freshness. A result or miss applies to the index being searched, not necessarily to every Raku documentation page.
A useful prompt is: “Answer only from the Raku Knowledge Base MCP corpus. Give me the page URL, the heading containing the support, and a short exact quote from the passage. If the corpus does not contain an answer, say so.” Asking for a quote is more workable than requiring line numbers: the first-party blog says the returned page text has no line numbers. Why the heading matters: a Raku grammar example
In a worked example about how an action class shares state between grammar rules, the relevant page is the Raku grammars documentation. The answer appears under “Always succeed” assertion—not the tempting “Attributes in grammars” heading.
In the Digifier and Devanagari example, the action class has an @!numbers attribute. Its succ method pushes an empty slot, and its digit method appends to the last slot. Both methods therefore use state held by the action object. The surrounding “Attributes in grammars” discussion also sets a boundary: grammar attributes are reachable only from methods, and a change made in a method called from a token affects that token’s own match object.

This is why citing only the page can be misleading. The page may be correct while the proposed section is not. A checkable answer identifies the actual heading and the passage that supports the specific explanation.
What counts as the corpus—and what a search miss means
The official guide describes the corpus as official Raku documentation, module documentation from both ecosystems, and the examples repository. It says the documentation is written in Podlite and that the build preserves structure such as sections. That defined collection should not be confused with every page on the knowledge-base website or every resource about Raku.

The September 25, 2026 DEV Community article by Alexandr Zahatski warns that the service does not automatically include every page published on the site or all tooling around the knowledge base. A search that returns nothing means the indexed collection did not produce a match; it does not establish that Raku documentation has no answer. Check the relevant area of the official Raku documentation site, which includes getting-started material, language references, type and routine references, miscellaneous topics, FAQs, and community resources.
How fresh is an offline knowledge-base index?
The offline bundle distributed with data releases includes a prebuilt search index. The official MCP guide says that bundle reflects the snapshot taken when its data release was cut and can trail the live site by up to a month. Consequently, the page counts returned by raku_kb_sections describe the loaded index, not a guaranteed live-site total.

To update an offline installation, the guide directs users to download a newer release whose tag begins with data- and unpack it over the existing directory. For installation details, the guide’s example uses the bundled raku-kb-mcp-offline.tar.gz, Node.js, npm install, and MCP client configuration. Its shown claude mcp add command is specific to that client; users of other MCP-capable clients should follow the configuration instructions provided for their client on the guide page.

Counts in the September 25, 2026 DEV Community article are measurements reported on that date, not live totals. The article reports 60,501 files in the source tree, including 20,469 candidate files in formats that could produce a page and 40,032 outside those formats. It also reports a sample of 219 published pages sourced from Raku programs, with embedded RakuDoc in every page in that sample. Treat these as dated figures with those stated scopes; they do not establish current index size or the makeup of every published page.
