Start with conversations your business already has with customers and the first-party data you already collect. Those sources can reveal the questions people ask, the words they use, and signals that help distinguish potential buyers from other visitors. Use recurring language to shape clear FAQ and AEO answers—not as a guaranteed way to earn an AI-search citation.
Where to find citation-earning real-world language
Search Engine Journal’s October 1, 2026 article by Heather Campbell points to customer conversations and first-party data as places to look for authentic customer wording. It does not prescribe a particular system or implementation. Depending on what your organization already collects, review the customer interactions and activity data available to your team, then note recurring questions and phrases rather than treating one person’s wording as a universal pattern.
The article frames this as a way to understand what customers say, which activity may come from potential buyers, and what insights could matter to marketing, sales, leadership, or product teams. Keep the source and context of each phrase with your notes so teams can assess whether it reflects a recurring customer need.

When a question or phrase recurs, use it as an input for FAQ content or other concise AEO answers. Answer the question plainly and accurately, using customer language where it clarifies what the reader means. The goal is a useful answer for people; matching a phrase exactly is not a citation technique established by the source.
#1 Best Overall
- Group related questions and wording into themes.
- Write a direct answer to each genuine customer question.
- Check that the answer is clear, complete, and consistent with what your organization can support.
Campbell’s article proposes this workflow as a webinar topic; it reports no citation analysis or before-and-after test showing that this approach makes AI systems cite a page.
Which AI Search Clicks Are Actual Leads?
The article also suggests connecting first-party activity data from advertising and AEO efforts with conversion qualification. That can help a team examine which AI-search clicks appear to come from potential buyers, and use qualified-conversion evidence to inform targeting or lead scoring. It does not define a universal lead-qualification standard, so teams need to apply their own criteria and data practices.

Qualified activity may also surface questions for sales and product teams, such as demo gaps, integration requests, or signs of market demand. Treat these as signals to investigate, not proof of demand from a single click or conversation.

What the webinar source does—and does not—establish
The article is a promotional announcement for a CTM webinar, not an independent study or tested how-to guide. It names Lisa Salvatore, Sr. Manager of Integrated Marketing at CTM, and Brian Barranger, Sr. Account Executive III at CTM, as contributors. The session was scheduled for October 13, 2026; check event or recording availability rather than assuming it is upcoming.
Rank #3
Its central advice is practical as a research input: listen to customers, identify recurring language, and use it to make answers more relevant. Whether an AI-search system cites those answers, or whether activity becomes a qualified lead, is not demonstrated by the announcement.
