You can restart a Bose Smart Soundbar 700 without its remote by unplugging it for 30 seconds, reconnecting it, and waiting about 30 seconds for it to start. That is a power-cycle reset, not a factory reset: Bose’s documented factory-reset procedure requires the remote’s Power and Skip forward buttons.
Restart the soundbar without erasing its settings
Bose describes a power-cycle reset as a way to correct minor processor errors; settings are ordinarily retained. Follow these steps:
- Turn off the soundbar.
- Unplug its power cord from the soundbar or wall outlet.
- If connected, unplug the power for the bass module and surround speakers as well. Bose specifically advises disconnecting both surround-speaker receivers.
- Wait 30 seconds, then reconnect the soundbar’s power.
- Allow about 30 seconds for the soundbar to reboot.
- Reconnect accessory power if you unplugged it.
Bose’s Soundbar 700 reset instructions distinguish this restart from a factory restoration. Unplugging the bar is not a way to erase its saved configuration.

Bose’s documented Soundbar 700 factory-reset procedure requires the remote. The instructions do not document a remote-free button sequence or an app command to initiate that reset. If you need to restore factory defaults and do not have a working compatible remote, obtain one confirmed to work with the Soundbar 700 before proceeding; do not assume an unverified third-party remote will work.

What the factory reset does
A factory reset clears the soundbar’s source, volume, network, and ADAPTiQ audio-calibration settings, then returns it to setup mode. Before resetting, Bose’s instructions say to remove the product from your Bose account; if Alexa or Google Assistant is configured, follow Bose’s additional removal guidance for the assistant.
Factory-reset steps when you have the remote
- Follow Bose’s account and voice-assistant removal guidance, if applicable.
- On the remote, press and hold Power and Skip forward together for five seconds.
- Wait for the light bar to blink twice and the soundbar to reboot. A steady amber light indicates that reset is complete and the soundbar is in setup mode.
