Warzone Error Code 4 means the game reports that it disconnected from the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare servers. The message does not prove that Activision’s servers are down, identify a local network problem, or point to a confirmed code-specific fix. Start by checking Activision’s current notices, then try reversible steps before changing network or security settings.
What Error Code 4 means
The on-screen message is: “You have been disconnected from the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare servers. Please try again or visit https://support.activision.com/mwstatus for updates. Error Code: 4” TheWindowsClub reproduces this wording. It describes a disconnect, but it does not confirm an outage or explain whether the cause is on Activision’s side or yours.
Activision’s reviewed support index does not assign Error Code 4 a specific current cause or official fix. Treat the steps below as a way to narrow down the problem, not as guaranteed remedies.
Try these steps in order
1. Check Activision’s Warzone notices
Open Activision’s Warzone support page and look for known issues and connection guidance before changing your device or network settings. When accessed on October 7, 2026, the index included “Known Issues in Call of Duty: Warzone,” updated September 25, 2026, and “Connecting to a Call of Duty: Warzone Game.” Support entries and service conditions can change, so check the page when the error occurs.

The error message points to a status page, but seeing that link in the message is not evidence that the page currently reports an outage.
2. Close and relaunch the game
- Quit Warzone completely rather than returning only to the console home screen or minimizing the PC game.
- Launch it again and retry the connection.
- If the game froze or crashed, restart the device as well. Activision’s general Modern Warfare crash guidance recommends closing the game and restarting it; it notes that a console reboot may be needed in some cases. This is general crash advice, not a confirmed Error Code 4 fix.
3. Check your internet connection
Confirm that the device is online and that other internet-dependent services work. If your connection recently dropped, wait for it to recover and retry the game. A third-party Error Code 4 troubleshooting guide also recommends checking connectivity and server status, but it does not establish a speed or ping threshold that guarantees a fix.

4. On PC, verify the game files
If Activision’s notices do not point to a service issue and your connection appears available, check the installation for damaged or missing files. TheWindowsClub’s 2023 guide suggests using the game launcher’s file-checking feature: Steam’s file verification or Scan and Repair in Battle.net. Launcher labels and menus can change; use the current verification option for the launcher where your game is installed. This is a reasonable maintenance step, not an Activision-confirmed Error Code 4 remedy.

Leave network and security changes until later
Third-party guides suggest changing DNS, running Windows network reset commands, or temporarily disabling firewall or antivirus software. These changes are not confirmed by Activision as fixes for Error Code 4 and can affect connectivity or security. Do not disable protection as a casual first step.
- Before changing a network setting, note its current value so you can restore it.
- Change one setting at a time, then test the game. Otherwise, it can be difficult to tell which change mattered.
- Use Windows network commands only on Windows PCs and only if you understand their effects; they are not console instructions.
- Reinstalling the game is a last resort because it can take considerable time and bandwidth, and the sources do not establish it as a code-specific fix.
When to contact Activision Support
If the error continues after checking notices, restarting, and confirming your connection, use the support options on Activision’s Warzone support page. Include details that help distinguish a service issue from a device or connection problem:

- When the problem began and whether it followed a game update.
- Whether other online services work on the same device or network.
- The steps you have already tried and what happened afterward.
