In the OneDrive app on your iPad, select a file or folder and tap Share. Choose Email in Outlook or Mail to open a message with a sharing link. To attach a copy of one file instead, choose Send file. Those options work differently: a link gives recipients access to the item in OneDrive, while Send file attaches an individual file to an email.
Choose how you want to share the file
| OneDrive option | What the email contains | Best for | Important consideration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Email in Outlook, Mail, or another email app | A OneDrive sharing link | Sharing a file or folder without attaching a copy | Check who can use the link and what permissions they have. |
| Send file | One individual file attached to the email | Sending a copy of one file | Microsoft limits this option to individual files. |
| Invite people | An invitation with a link | Sharing with named recipients and choosing whether they can edit | Available link and permission choices can vary, particularly for work or school accounts. |
| Copy link | A link you paste into a message yourself | Sharing through your preferred email app or another messaging channel | Anyone who can use a forwarded link may be able to access the item. |

A sharing link can be forwarded, so consider its audience before you send it. Microsoft warns that anyone who has a link may be able to open, download, save, and forward the document, depending on the link’s settings. For a controlled share, use a specific-people invitation if that option is available rather than assuming that an email link is private.
