There is no verified worldwide SaaS-only market-size figure in the primary-source figures covered here. Gartner forecasts $1.468 trillion in worldwide software spending in 2026, but that broader category is not SaaS alone. The clearest SaaS-specific figure is regional: Gartner forecasts A$16.377 billion in Australian SaaS spending in 2026. These numbers answer different questions and should not be treated as interchangeable.
What is the size of the SaaS market in 2026?
A reliable global SaaS-only total cannot be established from the figures cited here. Gartner’s July 2026 forecast is for worldwide software spending, a broad category that includes more than SaaS. Its May 2026 forecast gives a SaaS-specific figure for Australia, not the world.
| Measure | 2026 figure | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Worldwide software spending | $1.468 trillion; forecast to grow 15.5% year over year | Gartner forecast published July 2026. Software spending, not SaaS-only spending. Gartner’s July 2026 forecast. |
| Australian SaaS spending | A$16.377 billion; forecast to grow 13.8% from 2025 | Gartner forecast published May 2026. SaaS spending in Australia, not a worldwide total. Gartner’s Australian public-cloud forecast. |
| Australian public-cloud spending | A$33.6 billion; forecast to grow 17.9% from 2025 | Gartner forecast published May 2026. Public cloud includes SaaS, PaaS and IaaS; it is not a SaaS-only figure. Gartner’s Australian public-cloud forecast. |
The Australian public-cloud total is larger than its SaaS component because the measures cover different categories. Do not add or compare these figures as though they were alternative estimates of the same market.

The rate depends on which market is meant. Gartner forecasts 15.5% year-over-year growth in worldwide software spending and 13.8% growth in Australian SaaS spending from 2025. Neither rate establishes the growth rate of worldwide SaaS as a distinct category.
Forecasts change with their publication date
Gartner’s worldwide IT-spending forecasts for 2026 illustrate why a forecast needs its vintage. In October 2025, Gartner forecast $6.08 trillion in worldwide IT spending for 2026. Its July 2026 update forecast $6.37 trillion, up 14.2% from 2025. These are broad IT totals—not software-only or SaaS-only measures—and the later estimate supersedes the earlier one for readers seeking Gartner’s current 2026 outlook. What do 2026 AI spending figures say about SaaS?
AI software is a related but separate category. Gartner forecasts $461.637 billion in worldwide AI software spending in 2026. That number is not a SaaS market-size estimate: the figure is for AI software, not SaaS-only spending. Gartner’s September 2026 AI spending forecast.

Gartner’s outlook points to a multi-speed technology market rather than uniform growth. It attributes strong overall IT-spending growth partly to AI-related investment, with data-center systems and IaaS among the fastest-growing areas. That is evidence about broader technology demand, not proof that every SaaS segment is growing at the same pace. Gartner’s July 2026 IT-spending forecast.
How could agentic AI affect SaaS trends?
One consequential SaaS question is whether agents can complete work across systems without users spending as much time in traditional application interfaces. Gartner describes this as a potential challenge to enterprise application economics: if software delivers outcomes directly, vendors may face a weaker link between user growth and revenue growth.

In a July 1, 2026 forecast, Gartner estimated that up to $234 billion in enterprise application spending could be exposed to agentic AI arbitrage through 2030—roughly 20% of enterprise application SaaS spending by that year. This is a forecast of potential exposure, not a measured loss, an expected decline for every vendor, or a prediction that the entire amount will disappear. Gartner analyst George Brocklehurst said, “Agentic AI changes the economics of software.” Gartner’s July 1, 2026 forecast.
Vendors are also embedding agents in existing products
Competitive exposure is only one side of the trend. Gartner’s September 2026 AI-spending forecast says software vendors are embedding agentic AI in existing products. That response is distinct from the $234 billion exposure estimate: adding AI features may change how customers use and value a product, but it does not establish that vendors will avoid disruption or that every AI feature will generate new revenue. How to read SaaS statistics without mixing categories
- Check the category: software, SaaS, public cloud, enterprise applications and AI software are not synonyms.
- Check the geography: an Australian SaaS forecast does not establish a worldwide market total.
- Check the measure: spending, revenue, market valuation and growth rate answer different questions.
- Check the period and forecast date: an estimate for 2026 is still a forecast, and a later publication can revise an earlier one.
- Keep the currency attached: Australian forecasts are denominated in Australian dollars (A$); do not silently compare them with U.S.-dollar figures.
- Do not average unlike estimates: figures with different definitions, geographies or periods cannot be combined into a meaningful SaaS market total.
