No. You cannot use any Galaxy Watch with an iPhone. Samsung’s current support guidance says the Galaxy Watch4 and newer Wear OS models do not work with iOS. Only some older Galaxy Watch models, such as the Galaxy Watch3, were designed with iPhone compatibility, and even those come with functional limits. Compatibility can also vary by country and by exact model.
Which Galaxy Watch models work with an iPhone
The dividing line is the watch generation and its software platform. Samsung groups its recent watches as Wear OS devices that depend on Google Play services, and Samsung’s current guidance states that Google Play services are not supported on iOS. The older generation ran Samsung’s own Tizen platform, and that is where iPhone pairing was offered.
| Model | Platform (per Samsung) | iPhone status in the sources reviewed |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Watch (original) | Tizen | Listed as iPhone compatible by Samsung Australia (iPhone 5 or later, iOS 9 or later) |
| Galaxy Watch Active | Tizen | Listed as iPhone compatible by Samsung Australia (same baseline) |
| Galaxy Watch Active2 | Tizen | Listed as iPhone compatible by Samsung Australia (same baseline) |
| Galaxy Watch3 | Tizen | Listed as iPhone compatible by Samsung Australia (same baseline) |
| Galaxy Watch4 | Wear OS | Not supported on iOS under Samsung’s current guidance |
| Galaxy Watch5, Watch6, Watch7 | Wear OS | Not supported on iOS under Samsung’s current guidance |
| Galaxy Watch Ultra and Galaxy Watch FE | Wear OS | Not supported on iOS under Samsung’s current guidance |
Why Galaxy Watch4 and newer models are excluded
Wear OS watches rely on Google Play services for their core functions. Because those services are not available on iPhone, Samsung does not offer iOS pairing for these models. This is a platform limit rather than a regional or firmware issue, so a newer Galaxy Watch should not be paired with an iPhone through the standard setup, whatever the phone’s model or iOS version.

Older models: what “compatible” actually means
For the Tizen-era watches, the only published requirement in the sources reviewed is Samsung Australia’s baseline: an iPhone 5 or later running iOS 9 or later. That page is a regional statement, not a worldwide specification, and it does not say that the same baseline applies in every country or to every current iOS release. Treat it as a starting point and confirm the requirement for your exact watch and location.

Limits that apply on iPhone
Samsung Developer’s “iPhone Limitations for Galaxy Watch Apps” page, dated January 26, 2017, states plainly: “Companion applications are not supported for iPhone.” The same page explains that the iPhone connection uses Bluetooth Low Energy: “The connection between a Galaxy Watch and an iPhone is based on Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), which has a lower bandwidth than Android devices.”
In practical terms, this means:
- Some companion-app APIs are unsupported when the watch is paired with an iPhone.
- Bandwidth-heavy apps, such as audio or video streaming and maps, may not run properly over the BLE link.
- Certain standalone apps may work when a supported watch connects directly over Wi-Fi or cellular, depending on the watch and the app.
Because that page dates from 2017, read it as a description of the Tizen generation at that time rather than a current feature list for every iOS release.

Checklist before you pair or buy
- Confirm the exact model name. “Galaxy Watch” alone is not enough, because the original Galaxy Watch and the Galaxy Watch4 both carry that family name. Use the full model, such as Galaxy Watch3 or Galaxy Watch5.
- Rule out Wear OS models. If the watch is a Galaxy Watch4 or newer, stop here. Samsung does not support it on iOS.
- Check Samsung’s local compatibility page. Use Samsung’s support site for your country and find the listing for your exact model. Note the minimum iPhone model and iOS version it states.
- Check your iPhone against that minimum. Confirm both the iPhone model and the iOS version. Do not assume a later iOS release is covered just because an earlier one is listed.
- List the features you need. Notifications, health tracking, messaging, payments, and specific apps are not covered by a complete official feature matrix in the sources reviewed. Check each one against Samsung’s documentation for your exact watch before relying on it.
- Verify used or resold listings. If you buy a Galaxy Watch3 or another older model from a third party, confirm the model number and condition yourself. Listing details, pricing, and availability are not covered by the official compatibility pages.
Where the official evidence stops
Samsung’s current support material is clear on the generation split: Watch4 and newer Wear OS models are not supported on iPhone, and some older Tizen models are listed as compatible. The published material does not provide a full, current, model-by-model feature comparison for iPhone pairing, and it does not confirm parity with Android for apps, notifications, health data, or payments. Where you need a specific function, verify it for your exact watch, phone, software version, and country before assuming it will work.
