As of October 9, 2026, a third-party status monitor listed Google Gemini as working normally, despite reports from users in the previous 24 hours. On October 8, users in Italy, the United States, and Canada described failed or slow responses, repeated “Something went wrong” messages, and errors 1155 and 1099. That is evidence of user-reported trouble, not an official Google confirmation of an outage or its cause.
Tom’s Guide reported that Downdetector reports rose above 5,000 at one point and that the problems appeared to ease after just over an hour. Its October 8 report said Google had not acknowledged the event on its status page at the time. Read Tom’s Guide’s contemporaneous report.
Is Gemini down right now?
The October 9 snapshot showed Gemini working normally, with 38 user reports in the preceding 24 hours. Because a status snapshot can become outdated quickly, check current status before deciding whether the problem is on your device or with Gemini’s service.

These sources answer different questions: Google’s dashboard records official incidents, while a crowdsourced monitor reflects reports from users. Neither necessarily captures every issue or Gemini surface.

What do errors 1155 and 1099 mean?
Users associated errors 1155 and 1099 with failed Gemini responses on October 8. The available reporting does not establish an official Google explanation for error 1155 or show that all reports had one shared cause. Treat either code as a symptom, not a diagnosis.
Google did document error 1099 in a separate June 10, 2026 incident, alongside error 1076 and “Something went wrong” messages. That history shows that similar messages can accompany a provider-side failure, but it does not explain the October reports.

What to do when Gemini says “Something went wrong”
- Check Google’s status dashboard. Look for an active Gemini incident or a recent update in the official incident history.
- Compare with current user reports. A rise in reports on IsDown can indicate a wider issue even before an official notice appears; it is not proof of a Google-confirmed outage.
- If reports point to a service issue, wait and retry. Avoid destructive account or device changes while the service may be affected. Waiting and retrying is cautious guidance, not a Google-published workaround.
- If reports are quiet and the dashboard shows no incident, retry once and note whether the problem is limited to one Gemini surface or affects more than one. The October reporting does not establish a specific device-side fix for errors 1155 or 1099.
What Google’s confirmed June incident tells us—and what it doesn’t
Google’s official report for June 10, 2026, documents a separate Gemini failure affecting web, iOS and Android apps, and Chrome integration, across consumer and Workspace accounts. Google reported a 50% error rate when users attempted to send prompts. Its summary says elevated error rates lasted approximately 6 hours and 55 minutes, with full restoration confirmed after 14 hours and 49 minutes; the report’s preliminary timeline separately gives a 7-hour-5-minute impact period.

The report describes concentrated traffic on a small number of database instances, an index design issue, and a one-minute in-memory cache time-to-live that caused frequent database refreshes. Google said it mitigated the issue by throttling affected instances, redistributing index values, increasing the cache time-to-live from one minute to 20 minutes, and shortening query deadlines.
Google’s report stated: “The issue with Gemini has been resolved for all the affected users as of Wednesday, 2026-06-10 10:30 US/Pacific.” These details apply to the June incident only; they are not evidence of what caused October 8’s reports. Read Google’s June incident report.
