Google released a Chrome desktop security update on October 6, 2026, and MS-ISAC urged users to install the fixes. The advisory did not report in-the-wild exploitation as of October 7, so the available evidence does not establish this as an actively exploited zero-day. Check your Chrome version and update if it is below the fixed version for your operating system.
What the Chrome warning says—and what it does not
MS-ISAC / EI-ISAC’s October 7 advisory covers multiple vulnerabilities, not one isolated flaw. It says that successful exploitation of the most severe issues could allow arbitrary code execution in the context of the logged-on user. The potential impact can depend on that account’s privileges.
The advisory states, “There are no reports of these vulnerabilities being exploited in the wild.” That describes the status reported on October 7, 2026; it is not a guarantee about later activity. The warning therefore supports installing the security update promptly, but it does not substantiate calling the issues an actively exploited zero-day.
Google’s October 6 desktop stable-channel release includes 247 security fixes, according to Google Chrome Releases. One example among the release’s issues is CVE-2026-106238, which NIST describes as a race condition in Chrome Fonts. It could potentially let a remote attacker who had already compromised the renderer process execute code outside the sandbox using a crafted HTML page. This example is not the only issue in the update and is not evidence that the vulnerabilities were exploited.

Which Chrome versions are affected?
MS-ISAC lists versions earlier than the following fixed releases as affected. The Windows and Mac version numbers vary by build; use the threshold for your operating system rather than comparing across platforms.
| Operating system | Fixed version listed by Google | Affected versions listed by MS-ISAC |
|---|---|---|
| Windows | 155.0.8059.39 or 155.0.8059.40 | Earlier than 155.0.8059.39/.40 |
| Mac | 155.0.8059.39 or 155.0.8059.40 | Earlier than 155.0.8059.39/.40 |
| Linux | 155.0.8059.39 | Earlier than 155.0.8059.39 |
These versions come from the October 6 Google desktop stable-channel release and the October 7 MS-ISAC advisory. Google said the release would roll out over the coming days or weeks, so it might not appear immediately on every device. Sources: MS-ISAC / EI-ISAC advisory and Google Chrome Releases.

The advisory describes the most severe vulnerabilities as potentially enabling code execution with the logged-on user’s permissions. An account with fewer privileges can limit what an attacker could do compared with an administrator account, but this is not a substitute for patching. MS-ISAC also recommends least privilege and using supported, current browsers in organizations.
