NordVPN is the stronger choice if VPN privacy assurance, specialist features, and a dedicated VPN subscription matter most. McAfee Secure VPN makes more sense if you already want a McAfee security suite and value having VPN access bundled with it. They are not always like-for-like purchases, so compare the specific plan, platform support, and local renewal cost before deciding.
Which is better: McAfee VPN or NordVPN?
For a VPN-first purchase, the cited comparisons favor NordVPN. Cybernews’s comparison, updated March 13, 2026, evaluates performance, streaming, privacy, security, usability, plans, server locations, and features. Security.org’s comparison, updated August 6, 2026, also favors NordVPN overall, citing its privacy policies, larger server network, multihop, and obfuscation. Those are publisher assessments rather than standards-body findings. Cybernews comparison | Security.org comparison.
McAfee is the more natural fit when the VPN is one part of a broader security-suite purchase. Its plan price may include antivirus and other features, while NordVPN’s own tiers also differ in bundled extras. Compare what you will actually use, not just the VPN label or headline price.
How do their privacy assurances compare?
NordVPN’s no-logs claims have been examined in third-party audits described by the cited sources. Tom’s Guide reports that a Deloitte Lithuania audit in December 2025 covered regular, Double Hop, Onion over VPN, Obfuscated, and P2P servers, and refers to a sixth audit in February 2026 confirming the no-logs claims. Security.org says McAfee’s no-logging claim has not been independently audited in the same way. That is a difference in available assurance, not evidence that McAfee logs all VPN activity. Readers who prioritize independently reviewed privacy claims have a clearer basis for choosing NordVPN.
Which has more VPN features?
Cybernews lists more specialist VPN modes for NordVPN, including P2P, Double VPN, obfuscated servers, Onion over VPN, and dedicated IP options. Feature access can depend on the plan and platform, so check the current plan details before subscribing; the comparison does not establish that every option is included for every user.

These features are useful for particular needs rather than necessary for everyone. P2P support matters to users who need it; obfuscation and multihop offer additional connection options. If you only need a basic encrypted connection as part of a security suite, McAfee’s simpler offering may be sufficient.
What about platforms, streaming, and speed?
Check support for your actual devices and operating systems before purchase. McAfee product naming can vary: iTechGuides’ August 12, 2026 review says U.S. materials present the feature as Secure VPN inside the McAfee Windows application, while some documentation retains the Safe Connect name. Branding, features, operating-system support, prices, and availability can vary by country and app version. iTechGuides McAfee VPN review.

Neither provider can be promised to deliver a universal speed or streaming result. Tom’s Guide notes that NordVPN performance depends on the route and test. For a specific streaming service, destination, or network, check current service compatibility and trial or refund terms rather than assuming a comparison rating guarantees access.
How do prices and bundles compare?
Prices change with geography, plan, introductory terms, and renewal. Cybernews’s March 13, 2026 snapshot lists NordVPN Basic at $14.99 for one month, $5.49 per month on a one-year subscription, and $3.49 per month on a two-year subscription. These are dated figures, not a current offer; verify the price and renewal terms in your region on the provider’s checkout page. Cybernews explicitly says the McAfee figures in its comparison are for Total Protection, which includes VPN and other antivirus features, so they are not directly comparable to a standalone VPN subscription. In the cited comparison, McAfee pricing refers to Total Protection, a suite that includes VPN alongside antivirus and other security features. The exact products and naming can vary by location and app version, so confirm what the plan includes where you live. Do not assume that every McAfee VPN offer is the same bundle.

Does NordVPN include antivirus?
Some NordVPN offerings include additional services, but what is bundled depends on the tier and market. A separate test figure should not be mistaken for a claim about VPN protection: AV-Comparatives tested NordVPN Next-gen antivirus from May 11–22, 2026, and reported that it blocked 96% of 275 phishing URLs with zero false alarms on 200 legitimate sites. That result concerns the tested antivirus component in that test, not the VPN itself or every phishing attempt. AV-Comparatives 2026 anti-phishing report.
Who should choose each service?
| Choose | Best fit | Check before subscribing |
|---|---|---|
| NordVPN | A VPN-first buyer prioritizing independently audited no-logs claims, specialist connection options, and a broader VPN feature set. | Which tier includes the feature you need, supported devices, and local renewal pricing. |
| McAfee Secure VPN | A buyer who already wants McAfee’s security suite and prefers VPN as part of that broader subscription. | Whether the VPN is included in the plan you are viewing, supported platforms, product naming, and local renewal pricing. |
NordVPN also reports a 2026 VPN performance test score of 91 and a Platinum rating from Artifact Security. NordVPN says five providers were tested across performance, leak protection, website accessibility, reliability, and connection time. This is a vendor report of one round of a third-party test, not a universal guarantee of performance. NordVPN’s report on the Artifact Security test.
