For a missing action, open the Share menu, swipe left across the row, tap More, then Edit to enable or reorder it. If only AirDrop or a specific app action fails, use the checks for that feature below; the Share menu does not have one universal fix.
First, identify what is not working
Try sharing from the affected app and note which of these matches the problem:
- The Share button is missing: check the app’s own controls or help. The Share menu steps below apply when you can open the system Share menu.
- One action is missing or hard to find: customize the actions shown in that app’s Share menu.
- A destination appears but does not discover a device or complete a transfer: troubleshoot that destination, such as AirDrop.
- An app-specific feature is unavailable: check its requirements. Notes collaboration, for example, has account, sync, and locked-note restrictions.
If the basic checks do not resolve the issue, record the app, iOS version, action you tried, and any error message. Those details help distinguish an app-specific problem from one affecting sharing more broadly.
Restore or rearrange a missing Share menu action
Share actions can be hidden or placed outside the favorites row. Apple documents these controls as app-specific, so changing them in one app may not change the menu in another.

- Open the app and tap Share on the item you want to send.
- Swipe left across the row of sharing actions and tap More.
- Tap Edit.
- Turn on the action you want to show. Use the available controls to add actions to Favorites or reorder favorites.
- Tap Done, then test the menu again. Repeat these steps in each app where the action is missing.

If AirDrop is missing, not finding a device, or not sending
AirDrop has requirements separate from the Share menu’s action list. Check both devices, not just the iPhone you are sharing from.

- Make sure Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are on for both devices.
- Keep the devices within 10 meters of each other.
- Check the receiving device’s AirDrop setting so it allows the sender to be discovered. The recipient may need to adjust who can find the device.
- If Personal Hotspot is enabled, disconnect it temporarily and try again.
- If AirDrop still fails, restart both devices and retry.
These checks address AirDrop discovery and transfer between nearby Apple devices; they do not restore an unrelated action hidden in another app’s menu. See Apple’s AirDrop guide for its instructions and version-specific conditions.
If sharing a photo or video is the problem
In Photos, tap Share and then choose a destination, such as Mail or Messages. If the destination is absent, first check the Share menu’s More and Edit controls.

Use Options in the Photos sharing screen when the concern is how the item is packaged or what information is included—not simply because a destination is missing. The available choices can affect file format or shared information. Apple describes the workflow in Share photos and videos on iPhone.
If Notes collaboration is unavailable
A visible Share action does not guarantee that every note can be shared for collaboration. Apple’s guidance identifies account and iCloud setup as requirements, and a locked note cannot be used for collaboration.

- Check that you are signed in to the appropriate Apple Account and that Notes is set up to sync with iCloud.
- Make sure the note is not locked.
- If collaboration is not available or is not what you need, use Send a Copy to share the note without collaborating on it.

Messages has sharing routes of its own. Depending on what you are trying to send, try copying and pasting content into a conversation or sharing an attachment from within the conversation.

Shared with You controls how content received in Messages appears in supported apps; it is separate from whether you can send something from Messages. If received content is missing from an app, check that display setting rather than treating it as an outbound Share menu failure. Apple explains these routes in Share content in Messages on iPhone.
Know which fix matches the symptom

When to contact Apple Support
If the problem persists across multiple apps, a setting is unavailable, or sharing produces an error, contact Apple Support rather than assuming a particular reset or accessory will solve it. Have the app name, iOS version, exact action, and error message ready. The steps above address distinct menu and destination issues; they do not establish one universal cause or reset that fixes every Share problem.
