Then spend a few minutes learning the FlexWindow gestures, choosing useful cover-screen widgets, and trying FlexCam, Flex mode, and split-screen apps. The menu labels and feature availability can vary by software version, region, carrier, and model variant.
1. Complete setup and choose how to transfer your data
Follow the prompts on the phone to connect to a network, sign in to your account, set a screen lock, and decide whether to bring data from another device. For transfer instructions, use Samsung’s Smart Switch guidance and the prompts shown during setup; the exact flow can depend on your devices and software.
Samsung’s UK Business Support listing provides an Android 16 user manual, version 1.0, dated July 10, 2025. Consult the current manual for your region if a screen or setting differs.
2. Learn the FlexWindow gestures
With the phone closed, swipe in different directions to reach the cover-screen features:

3. Pick a useful FlexWindow wallpaper and shortcut
- Double-tap the closed cover screen to wake it.
- Touch and hold the screen to open its editing options.
- Choose a wallpaper, then adjust available items such as the clock, shortcut, battery icon, and colors.
The available controls depend on the wallpaper you choose. A glanceable clock or a shortcut you use often can make the cover screen more useful without opening the phone.
4. Add only the widgets you expect to check
Swipe left to the widget screen, then touch and hold to edit it or choose Add widget. Samsung’s guide lists options including Now brief, Battery, and Calculator. Keep the widgets you’ll actually check; the cover screen is easiest to scan when it is not crowded.

5. Decide what notifications can show
Review notification settings on the phone and what appears on the lock screen and FlexWindow. Samsung’s guide explains how to view and clear cover-screen notifications, but it does not prescribe a privacy configuration. Choose what to display based on who might see your phone; notification choices are preferences, not a security guarantee.

6. Try FlexCam with the phone closed
- Double-press the Power button to launch the camera on the cover screen.
- In Photo mode, frame yourself or your subjects using the rear cameras. Samsung says Auto zoom is on by default in Photo mode; Portrait and Video modes are also documented.
- For hands-free framing, partly fold the phone and set it on a stable, flat surface.
This lets you use the larger rear camera system for a selfie or group shot while viewing the framing on the cover screen. Samsung’s FlexCam and camera-features guide describes the camera controls.
7. Test Flex mode with an app you use
- Open an app and fold the phone halfway.
- Set it on a solid surface and see whether the app adapts to the folded position.
- If available, use the upper area for the app and the lower area for controls; the touchpad can help you navigate.
Not every app is compatible. To configure automatic panel behavior, open Settings > Advanced features > Flex mode panel. The panel’s behavior and available options may vary by app and software version.

8. Save a Multi window app pair
Use split screen to keep two compatible apps together—for example, a reference page and a notes app.
- If needed, enable Edge panels under Settings > Display.
- Open the Edge panel and place two compatible apps in split screen.
- Open the divider menu and save the pair to the Home screen or Apps edge panel.
The saved pair gives you a quick way to reopen those apps together. Samsung’s FlexWindow and main-screen guide covers Multi window; exact labels can vary.
9. Check camera settings before an important shoot
Use the 50MP rear-camera option for stills
Samsung’s US camera guide says the rear wide camera supports 50MP stills. In Photo mode, open the resolution control and choose 50M. Higher-resolution photos use more storage, so use this setting when the extra detail is useful rather than assuming every shot needs it.

Enable HDR for 10-bit video if you want it
Open Camera > Quick controls > Settings > Advanced video options > HDR to enable 10-bit HDR video. Some devices may not play HDR video. Samsung documents an on-phone conversion to SDR for that situation.

Samsung’s US specification sheet, current as of July 9, 2025, says the 25W Super Fast charger is sold separately and recommends Samsung-approved chargers and cables. That packaging detail is specific to the US; check your box and the Samsung listing for your country before purchasing an adapter.
If you want a case, choose one made for the Galaxy Z Flip7 and confirm the exact model fit. Check hinge coverage, thickness and grip, and whether the case leaves the features you use—such as wireless charging—available. The same US specification sheet lists a 6.9-inch main display and a 4.1-inch cover display, each with an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate; those diagonal measurements include the full rectangle, while usable area is smaller around rounded corners and the camera cutout.
