You can’t set up fingerprint recognition on an iPhone 13: this model does not have Touch ID. Use Face ID instead. Go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode, enter your passcode, tap Set Up Face ID, and follow the on-screen scans.
Why iPhone 13 has no fingerprint setup
Touch ID requires a fingerprint sensor, which Apple places in the Home button on supported iPhones or in the top button on certain iPads. iPhone 13 models use Face ID, so there is no fingerprint enrollment option in Settings. Set up Face ID on iPhone 13
- Open Settings and tap Face ID & Passcode.
- Enter your device passcode when prompted. If you have not created one, set one up; Face ID requires a passcode.
- Tap Set Up Face ID, then Get Started if that prompt appears.
- Hold the iPhone in portrait orientation with your face in front of it. Position your face inside the frame, then gently move your head to complete the circle.
- When the first scan is complete, tap Continue and complete the second scan.
- Tap Done.

If the usual head movement is difficult
During setup, tap Accessibility Options if you cannot make the standard head movement. Apple includes this option in its guidance for setting up Face ID: Face ID accessibility and security guidance.

What Face ID can do and how its data is handled
Depending on your settings and the app, Face ID can unlock your iPhone, authenticate purchases, and sign in to apps. Apple says Face ID data is encrypted, is not saved to iCloud, and does not leave the iPhone. Details are in Apple’s setup basics.
