You can start a documented Focus timer directly on a Chromebook, but ChromeOS does not offer a documented built-in personal alarm or Android-style bedtime schedule. Those features belong to Google’s Android Clock app and may be available only on Chromebooks that support Android apps and allow them. A separate ChromeOS sleep-and-wake schedule is an administrator setting for managed devices.
Start a Focus timer on your Chromebook
ChromeOS provides a Focus timer for a timed work session. It alerts you when the selected period ends, and you can extend the timer.
- Select the time in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
- Select Focus.
- Choose how long the focus session should last.
- Optionally choose a task or background sound, and adjust Do Not Disturb behavior. Focus mode has Do Not Disturb on by default.
- Select Start.
This is a countdown for a focus session, not a documented general-purpose wake-up alarm. Chromebook clock preferences such as time zone and 24-hour display are separate settings and do not provide a personal alarm setup.
Can you set a regular alarm on a Chromebook?
Google’s standard alarm instructions are for the Clock app on Android devices, Pixel phones, and Pixel Tablets—not a native ChromeOS alarm feature. If your Chromebook supports Android apps and the Clock app is available, you can try its alarm feature:

- Intel Celeron N4120: 4 Cores & Threads, 1.1GHz Base Clock, Up to 2.6GHz Boost Clock, 4MB Cache, Intel UHD Graphics 600. The perfect combination of performance, power consumption, and value helps your device handle multitasking smoothly and reliably with four processing cores to divide up the work.
- Open the Clock app.
- Tap Alarm.
- Add an alarm or select an existing one to edit it.
- Set the time and, if needed, choose repeat days and a sound.
Android apps are available on some Chromebooks, not all. A work or school administrator may also block access to Google Play or prevent app downloads. To check, look for the Play Store in the Launcher; if it is available, open it and search for Clock. The steps for finding and opening apps may vary depending on what is installed and enabled on the device.
Do not depend on an alarm to sound while the Chromebook is asleep. Google’s Chromebook documentation says closing the lid puts the device to sleep, but does not promise that an Android Clock alarm will continue sounding in that state. Keep the device awake and audible if you are relying on an app timer or alarm, and use a separately confirmed alarm method for anything you cannot afford to miss.

Set an Android Clock bedtime schedule, if available
The Bedtime tab is part of Android Clock’s bedtime routine, not a documented native Chromebook setting. If the Clock app and Bedtime tab are available on your Chromebook, the schedule can include bedtime and wake-up times on selected days. You can also enable a bedtime reminder and Bedtime mode; Google describes that mode as silencing the phone and removing screen color, so do not assume those phone-specific behaviors apply identically on a Chromebook.
- Open the Clock app and tap Bedtime.
- Set a bedtime and choose the days it should repeat.
- Optionally add a bedtime reminder or enable Bedtime mode.
- Set a wake-up time and choose its repeat days.
If the Clock app or Bedtime tab is missing, your Chromebook or account may not support or permit that Android feature. ChromeOS Night Light is a separate display setting: it can warm the screen on a custom schedule or from sunset to sunrise, but it does not set a bedtime, wake the computer, or create an alarm.

Managed Chromebooks can have scheduled sleep and wake
ChromeOS has a weekly sleep-and-wake schedule for managed devices, configured through administrator policy. When an interval starts, the device sleeps; when it ends, the device wakes. This is not a user-facing bedtime routine or an alarm setup for an ordinary personal Chromebook.
The policy has operational constraints: overlapping intervals are unsupported, the schedule follows the device’s time zone, and kiosk devices require specified AC and battery idle-action settings. An administrator should configure and verify it for the managed environment.
