To see which driver updates Windows 11 recorded and when, open Start > Settings > Windows Update > Update history and look through the driver entries. To match an entry to a device, check that device’s current driver details in Device Manager. The date shown in Device Manager is not necessarily the date the driver was installed.
Where to find Windows 11 driver update history
- Open Start > Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Update history.
- Review the driver entries, noting the provider or device name, version, and recorded update timing.
Update history shows which updates were installed and when, according to Microsoft’s Windows Update FAQ. The entry title may not exactly match the device name, so use the provider and version as clues too.
How to match an update to a device
- Search for and open Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant category, such as Display adapters or Network adapters.
- Right-click the device and select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab to inspect its provider, version, and displayed driver date.
Compare the provider and version in Device Manager with the Windows Update entry; do not rely on the dates alone. Driver titles and version formats can vary. For newer entries, Windows Update displays the provider name and provider-supplied version number. Older entries may combine the publisher, device class, and version in the title. Similar entries can also be legitimate: a device’s functions may be handled by multiple related drivers. Microsoft describes these naming and entry differences in Understanding driver updates, which covers Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2.
Why the driver date may not match the update date
The date on Device Manager’s Driver tab is descriptive information set by the driver provider; it is not a dependable installation timestamp. Microsoft notes that a provider can choose the date. Windows Update uses targeting information in driver files to select what it considers the best driver, so an older-looking date alone does not prove Windows installed an obsolete driver. Use Update history for the recorded update timing, and use the device’s provider and version to help identify the current driver.

How to roll back a driver after an update
If a device began having problems after an update, you can try reverting to its previous driver when Windows makes that option available. You need administrator permissions.
- Open Device Manager and expand the device’s category.
- Right-click the device and select Properties.
- On the Driver tab, select Roll Back Driver, if available, and follow the prompts.
Microsoft says reinstalling the previous driver often resolves an issue that began after a Windows Update. See Microsoft’s Device Manager driver guidance for details.

Where to get details or a manual driver download
For information about a specific driver release, contact the driver provider or check the device manufacturer’s official support site. Microsoft says release details may not be available through Windows Update or Microsoft.com. If you need to download a driver manually, use the manufacturer’s official site rather than third-party driver download sites; Microsoft’s driver guidance explains the recommendation.
