Android 16 is no longer an upcoming release. Google began rolling it out to supported Pixel devices on June 10, 2025, and other phone brands followed on their own schedules. Whether it is available on your phone depends on its exact model, country, and carrier or service provider.
When did Android 16 come out?
Google announced Android 16 on June 10, 2025, saying it was rolling out first to supported Pixel devices, with other phone brands to follow later that year. Google does not set one Android-wide release day: update schedules vary by device and manufacturer. Google’s announcement describes the initial rollout.
By October 2026, Android 16 appears in official update histories for supported Pixel and Samsung models. For example, Samsung’s Galaxy S24 (SM-S921B) history identifies One UI 8.0, based on Android 16, in a September 26, 2025 update record; its Galaxy S24 Ultra (SM-S928B) history lists an Android 16 update record dated September 30, 2026. These are model-specific records, not dates that apply to every Galaxy phone. Samsung says update details can differ by model, country, and service provider. Will your phone get Android 16?
Eligibility and a delivery date are different things. Google’s Pixel update information lists Pixel 6 and later phone families, including Pixel Fold, among devices receiving updates; Pixel 5a and earlier are no longer receiving Android version or security updates. Google’s update policy distinguishes Pixel 8 and later from the Pixel 6 and 7-era five-year update group. That support information does not promise a specific Android 16 installation date for an individual device.

For a non-Pixel Android phone or tablet, Google directs owners to the device manufacturer or operator for update information. Look for the exact model and market: a release for one model or firmware variant does not establish availability for another.
How to check for Android 16
- Check the installed version: Open Settings > About phone > Android version, or Settings > About tablet > Android version. Menu names may vary by manufacturer. Google’s Android update instructions cover checking and installing updates.
- Check for an update: In Settings, open the system or software update screen and check for available updates. Google says supported Pixel devices can check for Android 16 over the air. Back up your data before installing an update.
- Verify your model’s official status: Pixel owners can consult Google’s Pixel update page. Owners of other devices should check the manufacturer’s support or firmware page and, where relevant, their carrier’s information. Google’s Android 16 overview notes that schedules vary by device and manufacturer.
What if Android 16 is not showing?
- Confirm the phone or tablet’s exact model, country or region, and carrier or service-provider variant before comparing it with an update record.
- Check the manufacturer’s official update history for that exact model, then check carrier or regional firmware information if applicable.
- If there is no device-specific release information, the available evidence does not establish an arrival date for your device. Repeatedly checking Settings cannot guarantee or force an update to appear.
Do Android 16 features arrive on every phone?
No. Google highlights features including live updates from compatible apps, grouped notifications, clearer calls and hearing-device enhancements, Advanced Protection, and desktop windowing for large-screen devices. Availability can vary by manufacturer and device, and some features may arrive separately. A phone receiving Android 16 does not by itself establish that every feature will be available in the same form. Google’s Android 16 overview describes the features and availability caveat.
