iOS 26 developer beta 9, released September 2, 2025, added Recovery Assistant and fixed a startup issue that had affected some iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 models after installing beta 1. The beta notes also include developer-facing SDK and API changes. Apple’s larger iOS 26 features—such as Liquid Glass and updates to Messages, Maps, and Wallet—describe the operating system overall, not changes unique to beta 9.

What’s new in iOS 26 beta 9?

Recovery Assistant

Apple’s iOS 26 release notes identify Recovery Assistant as a new way to address an iPhone that does not start normally. It can look for problems and attempt to resolve them.

A fix for a beta 1 startup problem

The notes say some iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 models might display a low-battery symbol and fail to start after updating to beta 1. Beta 9’s notes list a fix for that issue. This is a correction to a problem associated with beta 1, not a newly reported beta 9 failure.

The documented recovery procedure involves disconnecting USB-C cables, connecting the iPhone to a computer, entering a button sequence, restoring through Finder or Apple Devices, and restoring a backup. Follow Apple’s instructions for the affected device rather than treating this as a routine update step.

Developer-facing changes

Which iOS 26 features are not specific to beta 9?

Apple announced Liquid Glass and updates to Apple Intelligence, Phone, Messages, CarPlay, Apple Music, Maps, and Wallet as part of iOS 26 overall. Its September 15, 2025 launch announcement highlighted features including call screening and Hold Assist; screening unknown Messages senders, polls, and backgrounds; Apple Music lyric translation and pronunciation; Visited Places in Maps; order tracking in Wallet; and the Apple Games app. These are iOS 26 features, not evidence of additions unique to beta 9.

Apple describes Liquid Glass as a translucent material that reflects and refracts its surroundings and changes dynamically to keep attention on content. The design extends across Apple software platforms. For the broad iOS 26 feature set, see Apple’s iOS 26 launch announcement.

Is iOS 26 beta 9 the final beta?

The available release information establishes that beta 9 was released to developers on September 2, 2025, but does not establish that it was the final beta. It is safer to describe it as the ninth developer beta rather than call it the final beta.

Which iPhones support iOS 26?

Apple’s June 9, 2025 announcement says iOS 26 is available for iPhone 11 and later. That is the general operating-system eligibility baseline; Apple Intelligence has narrower hardware, language, and region requirements. Apple named iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPhone 16 models among supported devices, and cautioned that some features might not be available in every language or region. Check Apple’s current compatibility details for the specific feature and software version you plan to use.
