If you changed your Samsung tablet’s screen lock recently, first check whether it offers the previous-PIN option. If it does not, Samsung’s supported remote-erase and hardware-reset methods can restore access only by erasing the tablet; after either reset, Google account verification may still be required. A reset is not a way to recover the forgotten PIN, and locally stored data may be permanently lost.
Before resetting, check for a previous-PIN option
On some Galaxy devices, a Forgot option may appear after a recent screen-lock change. If offered, use the previous PIN or password, provided it has not been deleted. Samsung does not say this option is available on every model or indefinitely. See Samsung’s screen-unlock troubleshooting guidance.
If you can unlock the tablet this way, back up important files before changing the lock again. If the option is absent or the old credential does not work, do not keep guessing: choose a reset route only after considering data loss and account verification.
Choose a recovery route

Samsung documents these erase and reset routes in its lost-device guidance, locked-screen troubleshooting, and factory-reset overview. Availability and labels can vary by model, software version, and region.

What to do before an erase or factory reset
- Assume local files will be lost. Samsung says remote erase deletes device data; a factory reset likewise removes locally stored data. A backup may let you restore some information during setup, but its existence or completeness is not guaranteed.
- Recover account access first. Make sure you can sign in to the Samsung account or Google account associated with the tablet. If setup asks for the previously registered Google account and you cannot provide it, the reset may not restore usable access.
- Check the exact model instructions. Button combinations, recovery menus, connector type, and feature availability differ. Do not assume every tablet uses the same buttons or a USB-C cable.
Erase the tablet remotely with Samsung Find
Use this option only if the tablet meets Samsung’s prerequisites and you accept that it erases device data. Samsung’s current instructions describe locating, locking, and erasing a device; remote locking is intended for a lost or found device and is not documented as a way to replace a forgotten screen PIN without erasing the tablet.
- Open Samsung’s lost-device instructions and sign in to the Samsung account associated with the tablet.
- Select the tablet from the account’s devices and choose the erase option shown for it. Follow the on-screen confirmation steps.
- After the erase, set up the tablet and sign in with the account details requested. Google device protection may ask for the Google account previously registered on the device.
If the tablet is offline, powered off, not linked to that Samsung account, or remote controls were not enabled, Samsung Find may not be able to carry out the erase.

Factory-reset from the recovery menu
Use the recovery-menu method if remote erase is unavailable and you are ready to delete local data. Samsung’s UK instructions, updated 14 May 2026, describe connecting a tablet to a computer by USB before entering recovery. The button sequence depends on the tablet’s hardware layout, so follow the steps for your specific model rather than trying a generic combination.
- Find your model-specific reset steps in Samsung UK’s factory-reset guide. Check its instructions for the required USB connection and buttons.
- Use the specified buttons to open the recovery menu, then select Wipe data/factory reset and confirm. Menu wording and navigation may differ by model.
- When the reset completes, restart and proceed through setup. Be ready to verify ownership with an account previously registered to the tablet.
Do not use Settings > Factory data reset as a locked-screen workaround: that path requires access to Settings, and may request credentials. Samsung’s factory-reset overview explains reset consequences and Google Factory Reset Protection.

Google account verification after reset
Factory Reset Protection (FRP) is an ownership check, not another screen PIN. Following a reset, the tablet may ask for the Google account previously registered on it. Samsung also notes that some devices running Android 9 or later may offer the previous screen-lock method as an ownership check, depending on configuration; this is not guaranteed on every tablet.
If you cannot complete verification, stop rather than using a third-party unlock tool or FRP-bypass service. Samsung advises contacting a service center when Google verification cannot be completed. The process and any proof required can vary by region, so check with Samsung support in your location.

If you cannot erase or verify the tablet
- If Samsung Find cannot reach the device, confirm it has power and network access and that it is associated with the Samsung account with remote controls enabled; otherwise, use the model-specific hardware reset instructions if you accept data loss.
- If you do not know the Google account credentials, recover access to that account through Google’s official account-recovery process before resetting where possible.
- If a reset has already happened and Google verification still blocks setup, contact a Samsung service center for regional guidance. Do not pay a third party claiming it can bypass the ownership check.
