If your Logitech M720 Triathlon will not connect, first make sure it is switched on, select the Easy-Switch channel you want to use, and put that channel into pairing mode. Then follow the setup steps for the connection you’re using: Bluetooth and the Logitech Unifying USB receiver have separate pairing flows.

First, identify the connection you want

The M720 can connect in either of two ways: Bluetooth Low Energy or the included Logitech Unifying 2.4 GHz USB receiver. Check whether you are trying to use your computer’s built-in Bluetooth or the small receiver plugged into a USB port. The mouse has three Easy-Switch channels, so the channel selected on the mouse must match the one you pair.

Connection What you need Pairing flow First check
Bluetooth Low Energy A host with Bluetooth support compatible with the M720; check current operating-system and device compatibility. Put the selected channel into pairing mode, then choose “M720 Triathlon Mouse” in the host’s Bluetooth settings. Confirm Bluetooth is enabled and you selected the intended M720 channel and device entry.
Logitech Unifying 2.4 GHz The Unifying receiver and a USB connection on the host. Use Logitech’s receiver pairing flow, select a channel, wait for its LED to blink rapidly, and follow the prompts. Plug the receiver directly into the computer and bring it closer to the mouse.

Pair the M720 over Bluetooth

  1. Turn on the M720 and select the Easy-Switch channel you want to pair.
  2. Press and hold the toggle button below the channel display for three seconds. The selected channel’s LED should blink rapidly, indicating pairing mode.
  3. Open the computer or device’s Bluetooth settings and select “M720 Triathlon Mouse.”
  4. Wait for the host to complete pairing. If the mouse does not appear, check that the LED is still blinking and that Bluetooth is enabled, then repeat the steps on the intended channel.

The M720 quick-start guide lists Bluetooth Smart requirements of Windows 8 or later, Mac OS X 10.10 or later, and Android 5.0 or later. That guide is release-era material, not a current compatibility guarantee. Logitech’s current specifications list Bluetooth support for Windows 10/11 or later, macOS, Chrome OS, Linux, Android 5.0 or later, and iPadOS 13.4 or later; confirm support for your particular host and software.

Pair or reconnect with the Unifying receiver

  1. Plug the Unifying receiver into the computer. Choose an available M720 channel—1, 2, or 3—and hold the channel button until its light flashes rapidly.
  2. Follow Logitech’s receiver setup prompts. Logitech documents receiver pairing flows using Logitech Unifying Software and Logitech Options on its M720 pairing support page.
  3. If the Unifying Software flow does not detect the mouse immediately, wait a minute. If it remains unresponsive, choose “No” and restart the pairing process. The receiver instructions identify “Pairing completed” as the success message.

Logitech says Unifying Software and Logitech Options are no longer supported or maintained and recommends Logi Options+ for supported devices. Because support can change and not every app version is necessarily suitable for this model, use Logitech’s current M720 downloads and support information to choose the available route rather than assuming Logi Options+ handles every M720 pairing workflow. A Unifying receiver can pair with up to six compatible Unifying devices.

If the receiver connection is unstable

Logitech’s general receiver troubleshooting recommends these checks. They are useful ways to isolate a connection problem, not proof of a particular cause in your case.

  • Plug the receiver directly into the computer instead of a hub, extender, or switch.
  • Move the mouse closer to the receiver. If the receiver is in a rear port and the computer case may block its signal, try a front port.
  • Move other wireless electrical devices away from the receiver and mouse.
  • Unpair and re-pair the mouse where applicable.
  • Check for available firmware and consider whether a background Windows or Mac update may be affecting the connection.
  • Test the mouse on a different computer.

Logitech lists the M720’s wireless range as 10 m (33 ft). That is a listed specification, not a guarantee of the usable range in every location; if the mouse works close to the receiver but not farther away, placement or distance may matter.

Check power, then isolate the problem

The M720 uses one replaceable AA battery and has a battery-status LED. If the mouse is off or unresponsive, check the battery and power before repeating pairing steps. The presence of a connection problem alone does not establish that the battery is the cause.

If pairing still fails, try the other connection method if your host supports it: Bluetooth instead of Unifying, or Unifying instead of Bluetooth. Also test the mouse on another computer. If the failure follows the mouse across hosts and connection methods after power and pairing checks, contact Logitech support or check warranty options rather than assuming a specific hardware defect.
