Those options do different things: feedback and reporting are controls, not a promise of fewer ads, while Premium and Premium Lite have different coverage and availability.
Are YouTube ads objectively getting worse?
Some viewers clearly find the ad experience frustrating. One Reddit user, for example, described the amount of ads as “unbearable and insufferable” (Reddit discussion). That is evidence of an individual experience, not a measure of what most viewers see.
There is no defensible representative current average ad count or comparable trend measure establishing that the typical viewer now sees more ads. YouTube serves multiple ad formats, but without a consistent measurement across viewers and time, a personal impression cannot establish a platform-wide increase.
What can you do without paying?
YouTube provides tools to manage ad settings, give feedback on ads, and report ads that appear inappropriate or violate its policies. These tools help you respond to or personalize ad experiences; YouTube does not promise that using them will reduce how many ads you see. See YouTube’s ad controls and reporting guidance.

- Report an ad if you believe it is inappropriate or violates YouTube policy.
Do paid YouTube memberships remove ads?
YouTube Premium and Premium Lite both reduce some interruptions, but neither should be treated as a guarantee that every promotion across YouTube disappears. Availability and the kinds of content covered differ.

When Premium Lite may be enough
Lite is aimed at reducing interruptions for most videos without removing every ad in every YouTube context. Check the membership details shown for your location before subscribing, particularly if you mostly watch music videos or Shorts.

When Premium may be a better fit
Premium is the broader membership if you want YouTube-served pre-roll and mid-roll ads removed on supported devices and also value benefits such as YouTube Music, downloads, and background play. It does not remove sponsorships or promotions incorporated into a creator’s video, and exclusions apply to some live events and Primetime Channels.

YouTube says Premium membership revenue is shared with creators based on how much members watch their content. It also describes its free, ad-supported experience as a core part of its business and says that experience will remain available. That means viewers can reasonably dislike interruptions while YouTube continues to rely on advertising and subscriptions as distinct parts of its model. See YouTube’s creator FAQ.

How to choose
- Choose ad controls if you want to manage preferences, give feedback, or flag an ad—not if you expect a guaranteed reduction in frequency.
- Consider Premium Lite if fewer interruptions across most videos are your priority and its remaining ad contexts are acceptable to you.
- Consider Premium if you want broader ad removal plus its bundled features, while understanding that creator promotions and some other contexts can still include ads.
- Check your local membership page for current price, availability, and included features; those can vary by location and change over time.
