The right workout app can make exercise easier to start by supplying a coach, a plan, a social nudge, or a short session that fits your day. These seven apps offer different approaches; none is proven by the product descriptions cited here to guarantee lasting exercise habits. Apple’s App Store frames the choice around “guidance, motivation, and stats” that suit your needs.

Choose an app that matches your motivation style

Peloton: follow an instructor-led class

Peloton is a fit if a trainer’s voice and the momentum of a class help you begin. Apple describes a broad library of live and on-demand sessions for stationary bikes, treadmills, rowing machines, dumbbells, and bodyweight workouts. You do not need every piece of equipment: the relevant requirement depends on the class you choose, and bodyweight options are included.

Nike Training Club: use coaching and a longer plan

Nike Training Club (NTC) combines individual workouts with multi-week programs. Nike says its trainers guide sessions in real-time videos; whiteboard workouts lay out a session’s purpose, sets, and reps, while programs add phased guidance. Apple’s App Store editorial describes hundreds of free workouts. Because availability and terms can change, check the current listing before relying on a particular offering.

Seven: lower the time and equipment barrier

Seven offers short, seven-minute HIIT sessions that Apple describes as requiring no equipment. A brief workout can be a manageable starting point when a longer class feels hard to fit in. If the short format helps you begin, you can decide later whether you want a more involved plan; the app description alone does not establish which approach will become a lasting habit.

How to choose without overbuying

  • Start with the activity. Choose Nike Run Club for guided runs, Ladder for structured strength, or a general-class app such as Peloton or FitOn if you want variety.
  • Pick the kind of support you actually use. Look for live instruction, audio coaching, a phased program, visible progress, or community features according to what has helped you exercise before.
  • Match the session to your real schedule and gear. Seven emphasizes short, equipment-free workouts; other apps offer sessions with differing durations and equipment needs. Inspect the specific workout rather than assuming every session is alike.
  • Check the device and price in your region. App features and paid tiers can vary or change. Review the live listing in the relevant app store before creating a plan around a feature or price.
  • Try one app at a time. A clear test is whether its format makes it easier for you to start and repeat workouts. Treat that as a personal fit check, not proof that an app guarantees adherence.

Apple Workout Buddy is separate from these app choices

Apple also describes Workout Buddy, a feature that can give encouragement based on fitness history and current-workout data, including milestone feedback. Apple’s support page says the feature described there requires iOS 27 or later, an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone 15 Pro or 15 Pro Max, or an iPhone 16 model or later, plus Bluetooth headphones and a device language set to English or Spanish. Apple Intelligence availability varies by region and language. These requirements apply to Workout Buddy, not to the seven apps above, and the feature is limited to Apple’s ecosystem.

What app features can—and cannot—tell you

Instructor cues, plans, logs, and social feedback are different ways to make a workout more approachable. The cited product and editorial pages describe those features, but they do not establish that any one app causes long-term exercise adherence or works equally well for every person. Use the app that fits your activity, time, equipment, preferred coaching style, and budget; reassess if it adds friction rather than removing it.
