A circle with a diagonal line in your Samsung phone’s status area can indicate either No signal or that Do Not Disturb is on. The text description alone is not enough to identify it with certainty: Samsung lists both as Galaxy status indicators, and icon designs can vary by model, carrier, and software version. Check Quick Settings first, then check your cellular service.
What the circle-with-a-line icon may mean
Samsung’s Galaxy status icon guide includes both a no-signal indicator and a Do Not Disturb indicator. Which one you are seeing depends on the icon’s exact appearance and your phone’s context. Samsung notes that displayed icons can differ by network operator, model, and software version, so the description “a circle with a line through it” cannot settle the question by itself.
The icon is a status indicator, not proof that a component has failed. It does not, on its own, establish that your SIM, antenna, or phone needs repair or replacement.
How to identify and clear it
- Open Quick Settings. Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the notification panel; swipe down again if needed to expand Quick Settings. Samsung notes that some indicators appear only after opening the notification panel.
- Check Do Not Disturb. Look for the Do Not Disturb control. If it is active, tap it to turn the mode off. Google’s Android Help instructions say to swipe down from the top of the screen and tap Do Not Disturb to turn it on or off. The precise labels and layout may vary by phone.
- If Do Not Disturb is off, check cellular service. Look at the phone’s network status and whether it has mobile signal. Samsung lists “No signal” as a Galaxy indicator, but the icon alone does not explain why service is absent.
- If it is still unclear, identify the exact icon. Check the Galaxy model and software version, or compare a screenshot with Samsung’s icon guide. Carrier, model, and software differences can affect how indicators look.
What to do if there is no mobile signal
First confirm that the phone actually shows no cellular service, rather than assuming that from the symbol alone. If service is missing, check the cellular connection and SIM or eSIM status using the options available on your model, and contact your carrier if you need help confirming service or account status. The Samsung icon reference identifies the no-signal state; it does not diagnose a particular service or hardware fault.

Why the exact phone matters
Samsung’s official guide describes Galaxy status indicators, but cautions that their appearance may vary by carrier, model, and software version. Google’s Do Not Disturb steps are general Android guidance, and settings can vary by phone. For a definitive identification, use the exact Galaxy model, software version, carrier, and—if possible—a screenshot of the status area.
